I save the Qunari every time. While it kills the Chargers and might not be the best for Bull, scuttling the alliance means the Venatori spy network continues and their plot to burn down half of Denerim succeeds. 6 guys versus an entire spy network and half of Denerim's population seems an easy choice. Though I wish there was an option for the Inquisitor and/or one ally to run to them and intercept the Venatori. I even had Dorian's focus haste ability and thought that would factor in.
So did you save the Qunari alliance or let it burn?

Save the Chargers. Who cares about a city full of innocent people? Though that entire mission was bulls***. I could have easily gone over their and killed those Venatori. Well probably not that easily, Nightmare and all but still. The distance to cover in order to get to them is not that much. 100m maybe? 200m at most. Not that far.

Ditto. The Inquisitor does not have the luxury for personal feelings. While it was a heartbreaking decision - I agonized over it for a few minutes - the Qunari alliance was too important. Sacrifices are necessary in war.

There's no War Table Mission responding to the attack on Denerim, and the Qunari do see the Venatori as a threat, so I imagine they just take on the Venatori spy network and fleets without the Inquisition's help.
But regardless, I find the decision very difficult to make.

Bioware could have written the scene better, to make it seem impossible from a gameplay perspective to save them. As it is, they are just on the adjacent hill. Hell, my Quizzy could have dropped a fireball on the Venatori before they could have even made a move ![]()
What would have been awesome, is if they would have made this into a challenge - if you are skilled enough, you could save them.

Who the hell cares about the Chargers? Or more importantly what kind of crappy commander values the life of SIX of his soldiers over one of the mightiest alliances he could possibly gain? Anyone who saves the Chargers does either out of paranoia of the Qunari, or because they are a failure of a commander. There is no in-between between those two points.

Save a group of small people who are mostly insignificant or gain a political alliance with a global superpower with assets that can help in the fight against Corypheus.
Tough choice.

I haven't had a character yet that didn't save the Chargers, not the least of which because everyone keeps on talking about how accepting the alliance gives the Qunari a foothold on the mainland. The Qun is anathema to the core beliefs of the two Inquisitors I've rolled thus far, and the only reason they even took the mission was for a meta-game perspective on my part. Once I actually gave them free reign they were only too happy to abandon it, regardless of the ramifications such a choice caused. Neither of them trusted the Qunari not to use those footholds after Corypheus was dealt with. Will I have a character who does support the Qunari at a later date? Of course. So far though no dice.

Like in Mass Effect, where there is an option to get both in most situations, s long as you are actually capable of doing it.

You guys can be ruthless pragmatists all you want. Me? I'm sharing drinks with Krem and the rest of the Chargers.

Didn't one of the Bioware writers for Dragon Age say they hated those choices because everyone always took that option instead of the lesser choices? I think it was Gaider talking about the Redcliffe choice but don't quote me on that. It's early and it probably never happened.

Or maybe its because you need the Tallis network to even find out about it? You don't hear about what happened to the Lavellan clan or Valoos-kaas mercenaries as a Travelyan so it's likely you just missed it and it wasn't told to you. Besides, why would the Qunari go out of their way to save Denerim? To win that mission you have to use Josephine to warn the leaders since Cullen and Leliana's options fail. Would the Qunari warning them work?

I saved the Chargers, both because I liked the chargers and playing as a Mage, I really don't want to make the Qunari stronger than they are.

This. There are a few segments in the game where all I could think was "No, really guys, I got this, we don't have to make this arbitrary decision." How to kill Coryphyfish's dragon was another one, by that point in the game I'd solo'd 6 dragons, I really don't need some ancient eldritch knowledge, or Morrigan, to kill a dragon, just let me fight it.
