MCC was such a sloppy launch and most of my friends who bought it, do not play it at all anymore. When it released I'd say about 10 or 15 of my friends played it, but as the weeks passed and the matchmaking issues continue. Most left.

I mostly play PC nowadays, but I have an old love affair with HALO. It is, with the exception of probably Battlefield and Mass Effect, my favorite game series.

But I fear that MCC and the inability for HALO 4 to hold players and a population into it's cycle (despite shattering records for sales of the series) points to something that I, nor really anyone in the game industry, especially Microsoft wants to acknowledge.......

That, HALO is dying. It's archaic and requires to much skill in the day's of the low time too kill, derptard killstreak friendly generation of Call of Duty or even recent Battlefields.

It's a formula and game from a generation in which FPS were mostly about skill, map control and twitch. Not killstreaks and custom loadouts.

And it's for that very reason. That I think.

HALO is dying.

HALO is not to blame. Because I still think HALO is GREAT.

No.

The modern gamer, and specifically, console gamer is too blame.

The casuals killed HALO.

But there is hope I believe..........

PC.

HALO can always and will always have a place in PC gaming. I've always owned an xbox, specifically just for HALO, but I have many PC only gamers who go on and on about how HALO should come on PC, and there was even a petition with over 8,000 signatures to bring HALO MCC to PC.

And maybe.......

It's HALO's only hope.

Thoughts???

They should've stopped a lot sooner. I love the first one to bits but after that it was just kind of a gradual decline (yes including Halo 2 - I didn't think it was all that great). Would've been good to just wrap it up at Halo 3 then move on.

There is only one solution. Kill all Casuls. We must form a mighty covenant to purge our sacred games from their heathenly influence!

I disagree. I think the consumer has changed. It's the CoD generation of FPS. I'm shocked that Counter Strike is still big, although..... They never changed.

We're calling Halo "too difficult" for the average FPS gamer now.

I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry.

To be honest it seems like they should have just left it at Halo 3.

I agree. I hate the modern console gamer. They are so stupid and just eat the piles of sh!t given to them by "AAA" devs and publsihers. Whereas the PC community actually expects decent customer sercie. And yet we are called elitist or whatever, for just pointing out FACTS and holding devs responsible.

Lets all hope that Killing Floor 2 isn't weak sauce because it's being made for PS4 now. Lets all hope.

I've seen it to many times tho, beloved PC centric series dumbed down and made bad when brought to consoles.

Battlefield, Crysis, Unreal Tournament just to name some.

Lets hope Killing Floor doesn't follow suit. But.... I expect it will.

God that is tough game, almost, not quite tho, as tough as Crysis on DELTA difficulty.

*Crysis 1, not those dumbed down console ports known as Crysis 2 and 3..... Actually Crysis 3 was alright, lol*

The thing that is killing Halo is it's community and their obsession with the old formula. I've been playing Halo from the CE days and the fact is that those games are still kind of fun but the community will not tolerate any alteration to the established formula which is completely stifling the growth of Halo. It's as if 343 should just give up and clone Halo 2 for Halo 5's multiplayer. The best way to compare the Halo community is that they are no different than the CoD community's obsession with "modern" theme and style, the CoD community is in a constant up roar about Black Ops 2 and Advanced Warfare for being too futuristic, too scifi, too Titanfall, too Destiny and too Halo?

While I do agree with the points you're making. I actually think it's the core gameplay mechanics that make HALO obsolete for the current generation of gamer.

HALO always has had a high time too kill and relied on map control, power weapons and twitch. It requires team work and competency.

It is not an easy game. Accessible yes. But not easy to be good at.

The modern gamer is ADD, they want to be good and get rewarded at everything they do and feel God like right away.

HALO is a slow burn, it takes time and practice to be good at.

Simply put, it's too difficult and has too much of a skill curve for the modern Xbox gamer.

Because the modern xbox gamer is a filthy casual scrub.

If I remember correctly World at War had a very cheap AI. They pretty much always knew where you were and if you took cover you'd get six grenades lobbed at you at the same time... it was ridiculous.

Yeah, unfairly tough and not great difficulty design. Crysis 1 DELTA difficulty is a proper difficulty curve for FPS, as are HALO's incredible AI on Legendary.

But... World at War on veteran is still a hilariously fun game to play on Veteran for some reason, even tho you get killed in the most random and spastic ways lol.

LOL. I actually remember playing that game on veteran, I really have no idea why though. I guess it was fun crawling around. I think the most fun I had was throwing smoke bombs into the caves/bunkers and melee-ing everyone, because everything else I had tried failed.

As much as I like Halo and hate to admit it, I'm going to agree that it's rapidly losing momentum. 343 have pretty much done terrible things with the IP so far. Halo 4 was a disappointment, the MCC had server issues and I'm not sure on what to think of Halo 5's MP.

Time will have to wait, but if Halo 5 turns out to be another disappointment, then I'll keep my expectations super low for Halo 6.

I'm not really a FPS shooter person. Hell, I only bought Destiny because the Devs said it would have a awesome storyline. ( It didn't ) But I don't want Halo to die because of dumb people who don't know the different  between teamwork or showing off your headshot skills and tea bagging <_<

We should eliminate the casul console untermenschen.

Hail Gaben.

Joking aside, I haven't played a single Halo game after 3. To me, that was a suitable end to Master Chief's story. Can't tell you about the multiplayer.

Yeah, I agree. Although I l thought HALO 4 was great, but then again I mostly played Team Doubles, Proving grounds and legendary slayer, so loadouts and crap weren't there.

But yeah... 343 is fvcking up big time.

Now, if you don't like it, go bury yourself!

You get Halo 5 and probably Halo 6 and then be prepared for the series to be gone, save for the possibility of remastering and a revival down the line.
