Hey guys, I think the old NPD chart / sales thread is pretty old now so I'll just leave this here.

I just got access to November NPD data and amusingly it lists DAI as # 10 (because it groups the two Pokémon games together). So a lot of doom and gloom and "DAI bombed" rhetoric could have been avoided (frankly I consider 3DS games so different from us I don't see them as chart competitors but so be it).

Also (I can't give numbers) the delta between most of the games on the chart is *really* small. Then you factor in the date the game was released (example: Unity had an extra week of sales), price promotions and sales for Black Friday (DAI did not go on sale) and we sold very, very well! I wish the whole story had been told when the chart was published.

I have no doubt DAI will outsell Origins lifetime.  I'm posting this to reassure people who "worry about BioWare/DA's future". Worry not.

Could Dragon Age 4 be a possible future then!? :o

How dare anyone enjoy a game over one that preferred? They're wrong!

It sucks when I'm in the position where I enjoyed every DA games. It's clearly not allowed.

I enjoyed all the games also. It is allowed.  ;)

The 'my way or the highway' mentality really wears thin after a while.

No, I am saying that a game like ME3, which is responsible for the biggest s***storm about a game ever on the internet, received unrealistically high user ratings on those sites.

Not very hard to understand, but oh well.

You're saying that all metacritic user scores are completely useless because of trolls, because all awesome games have a bad user score on metacritic or something. I showed you proof that this is not the case, yet I am the ignorant one.

Sure I do.

EA dumbed down the franchise with the attempt to boost sales. Internal expectations will therefore indicate that the game will sell better than previous installments.

Personally I feel the shitstorm surrounding SimCity 5 and ACU are bigger than some people not liking the ending to ME3.

But then, those game had *actual* issues, not just a bunch of people whinging.

Perspective: Get some.

Can I take this as Bioware's admission that even Dragon Age can't stand against the beast that is Pokemon? :D

Well, I did get my son Pokémon Ruby for Christmas so even I have supported the competition in that sense :D

   I dont think many can stand against the beast that is Pokemon and I have to admit that me and other members of my family all supported Pokemon. I bought a copy of DA:I for myself and we bought probably at least half a dozen copies of Pokemon for our children... So Pokemon outsold at least DA:I 6 to 1 here.

Kids are dumb :P I really cant understand what it so appealing about Pokemon. But if I want some peace... I better buy them or I will never hear the end of it from them kiddos.

I'm 27 and I like Pokemon as do many of my friends so its not just limited to children.

I'm thirty-four and finished doing a Battle Test in Mauville City literally less than five minutes ago :D . (Took my rain doubles team, but only managed Hyper Rank. I feel like they can do better.)

Pokemon is basically the same game over and over again, but it's a great game.  There's also some really challenging strategy involved once you get into the optional post-story stuff. (Or if you battle other players, but competitive Pokemon is far too cut-throat for me.)

I couldn't agree more.

The massive outcry for Mass Effect 3 is one of those things that really colors the perception of the whole community. Instead of remembering perhaps the most important game trilogy of it's generation, folks might only remember it for the negativity surrounding the final five minutes, and that is frankly unfair to the Mass Effect series.

It also highlights another problem with gaming culture, very few people look beyond what is seen. You are very right when you say perspective, I think the gaming community has none on the whole, they focus on the now and not the when, where or why. What's worse, the community by and large tends to follow blindly folks who say the things they believe, a opinion leader who has prestige or popularity which leads to the diffusion of innovations. Shakey sociology sure, but it is fairly relevant in the gaming sphere.

And dangerous too. No one analyzes. No one looks at the big picture. No one realizes that some things are simply subjective.

Pokemon is the best selling RPG of all time by miles.

It really doesn't matter if many can stand being beaten, they already were years ago. And rightfully so since it's a good game with a lot of appeal. Inquisition, while a good game, is a niche title at best.

lol wat.

That's so dissonant to the fact that most of my gaming (and some normally non-gaming) friends (IRL), male and female, single and couples, young and old, are at least talking about getting DAI, if not playing it or finished it already.

Yeah, select sample, but in my life DAI is the dominant video game being played and talked about. I've gotten several PMs and personal face-to-face discussions with them about the story since they didn't play the first two.

DAI won't be Skyrim levels of popularity (well maybe maybe close, over time, but probably not) but it is easily gathering the mainstream attention more than DAO ever did and DA2 tried to but failed at.

Niche. lol

If the games that DAI is being beat out in sales by are Call of Duty, Pokemon, Super Smash Bros, Grand Theft Auto, and Assassin's Creed, and most of those are not by huge amounts, then Dragon Age is not niche. Its just not highly mainsteam.

At least for RPGs, I'd call you insane if you consider Dragon Age Inquisition to be niche.

Just had to lol at your post for a bit.

Yes, Pokemon is the most popular, or at long among the most popular, but I really don't think that warrants calling Dragon Age niche just because it doesn't capture total global attention. Jeez.

Inquisition is out-selling Origins at a rate of 2:1 and was just named the Associated Press' game of the year?

Clearly you should hang your heads in shame.

They should be ashamed because they are making money? Your logic befuddles me.

It's not my thread, so I don't have any particularly personal stake in its defense... but originally it was a parody thread. It seems a bait thread now because the sincere threads announcing Bioware's demise have mostly (thankfully) dropped off the page.
