I think it may be a bug but I can't purchase mounts at Skyhold. The sign with the note on it is there but I am unable to interact with it.

This is annoying as I want a Halla mount but I have no access to one. The only mounts I have are;

1 Horse

1 Dracolisk

6 Nugs

I am tired of these mounts, I want a Halla. :(

Sounds like a glitch, but I'll be honest, you're not missing anything. The mounts in DAI are pretty much useless. They're basically there to check the 'Mounts' box on EA's checklist.

I agree and even was going to create a post asking if anyone uses them?  My big problem with them is that scanning for pickups (ingredients, loot boxes, books, etc.) seems to be disabled while on a horse.  Seriously, Bioware?

I do - in the Hissing Wastes at least. Plus, you don't injure yourself when jumping down from heights if you are mounted.

I use my mount to scale steep mountains and jump down from heights to save time.  Also to sprint through the Hissing Wastes, as Caradoc said.

Other than that, I don't bring my mount out that much.  I prefer taking in the scenery and catching the occasional bit of party banter.

Did you recruit horse master Denet to be an agent? (You need to do a quest for his wife and son, then he'll join the inquisition)
He's the one who sets the mount shop up in both Haven and Skyhold.

Yes, you need to recruit Dennet.

But, the quest marker telling you where he is for the final stage of the quest doesn't work, so you have to search through all the buildings at Redcliffe Farm.

You don't "purchase" mounts, you get them through options on the war table. To choose a different mount go to the stable and click on your current mount and you will be able to choose a different one as long as you have done the option on the war table.

I thought I did recruit him as an agent but maybe I didn't finish the quest if the marker isn't there.

I thought I did recruit him as an agent but maybe I didn't finish the quest if the marker isn't there.

For me; it worked like this:

Quest marker points to Dennet. He refuses.
Quest marker points to his children. They have several tasks that need doing, some of them large.
Quest markers point way to those tasks, some of which extend beyond the Hinterlands.
Quest markers point way back to Dennet's children when done.
Then the quest marker disappeared, but the quest still sat in in the journal.
So then I found Dennet and had to convince him to provide horses. I had three persuasion options with which to do so. One was related to a perk I'd taken, or I could have had Cass do it for me, or I could have had Dorian do it for me.
