Pity it wasn´t for it´s good quality.
Golden Axe, in a time when endings were mostly of the "a winner is you" variety, it was surprisingly original.
Golden Axe also wasn't a 100 hour story driven series.

No, but it was awesome. The III one I mean.

Portal 2
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
999 and VLR (these 2 were seriously freaking amazing)
Mass Effect 2
BioShock Infinite
Fraq mentioned the 2nd Shadowhearts game.. That one definitely was up there, I also really like what I've heard of Shadow of the Colossus but I've admittedly never played it myself.

I thought ME2's ending was awesome.
Halo CE had a nice ending too.
Cortana-The Covenant... It's finished.
Master Chief-No, we're just getting started.
Mad father's ending screwed you up as well.
I'm biased since it's my favourite game of all time, but it always gets me.
I feel like every other FF one is cool.. so it's kinda redundant but... derp voice syncing and all
And another one:

Yeah tbh I was a bit surprised no one mentioned Portal 2 already XD
I actually got really feelsy when I saw it.
Not because it was sad or anything but jeez, what a f*cking amazing game that was xD

How did I forget this too?!
Well... you'd want to forget it.
Because it destroys your soul.
I don't know what it is but whenever I think about my favorite endings it is always the dark, the bittersweet and downright depressing endings or endings with a more ironic humour that come to mind. For some reason the happy ending where the hero saves the day, gets the girl and lives happily ever after does not do as much for me as the ending where the former hero consumed by his quest for revenge loses everything he once cared about and becomes the very thing he once swore to destroy. I have often wondered what that says about me but looking at this thread while the is the odd happy ending most people have elected to nominate the darker, the bittersweet and more depressing endings as well.
I gotta wonder why that is?
What can I say? I love a happy ending.
How is this absent from this thread??
EPIC ENDINGS:
Mass Effect
Dragon Age Origins
Darksiders
Brutal Legend
Tomb Raider
Saints Row IV
The "A" Ending in Valkyrie Profile.
How is this absent from this thread??
Duh, bad memory...
Yeah it was "glorious".
ME2,SR4,GTA SA,DA:O,DA:I and ME3 (just to bother you)
One of them probably is Halo reach. It was a clever mix of story and gameplay.
ME1
TW1
TW2
Shadow Warrior
DA:O
Metroid
Castlevania
Zelda
Diablo 2
Deus Ex
All great endings.

Those happy endings are often insanely corny and paradoxically somewhat unfun I've found.. meeting an idealistic construct of happiness =/= actual happiness.
Although I don't like cheap horror endings either, always gotta find that balance IMO.
I failed to mention it but Link's Awakening is a good example IMO, <spoiler> it's basically you escape this trapped world which is actually just this one creature's dream. So you go back to reality, but everyone you were with that experienced the sense of reality over the course of the game (friends, enemies, towns, people) etc are actually destroyed so it's kind of an odd place to end up overall.
