I don't like it because I think it looks silly to sashay like that in full plate through battalions of enemies. I don't mind in appropriate situations, like in Halamshiral, but I'd rather it be an option so I don't have to see my Inquisitor making sure her hips sway while traipsing through vast expanses of hostile and dry desert.
Why Do All Female Characters Run Like Unrealistic Girly Girls ?

I don't see why we can't have a compromise between very masculine and feminine run animations. All the other animations are gender neutral, so wouldn't it have been better to have the run animations gender neutral too? It shouldn't be a case of "my female character runs like a man" or "my male character runs like a girl" - it should just be "my character runs like a normal person"!

I've tried to create a male Elf character. poor guy, the gorilla walk on male is almost as bad as the female girlygirl one. Is quite funny see this almost scheletrical man walk (expecially in cutscene) like a bear.
I think the better walking style is Solas's in cutscene.

I would like to recommend a motion capture model for the ultimate feminine gait (no joke, I'm totally serious)http://tinyurl.com/lc7s6df
As much as she is overdoing it, even her run isn't as exaggerated as what we get for our femquisitors. It looks positively normal by comparison. (Also, ouch. Get the poor girl a sports bra, that has got to be painful...)
Though I don't like a lot of the male animations, either. The run is passable, but the cutscenes... I'd like to see a little bit less explicitly alpha male gorilla and a bit more elegance and dignity. Just bring in the knees a little when they walk, or when they sit. Just a little. Make them stand up straight instead of slouching all the time. That kind of stuff. Though maybe it looks alright on a human male, I don't know as I've never played one of those.
Although it does fit my image of the female Qunari lumbering giantess. Who then, in the field, runs like a girly girl. And has stick arms. Can't win for the inconsistency.

The way the female Inquisitor walks and runs in cutscenes is strictly male-ish. There is nothing womanly about it. In addition, the way she sits is also manly in cutscenes. The way a woman sits is culture specific as well as an etiquette taught by parents (especially mothers). I was thought to not sit with my legs wide open (to cross my legs at the ankles when sitting down) and to not stand with my legs wide open, just comfortably so. I am a runner. I don’t run the way the female Inquisitor does outside of cutscenes (her normal run when not in cutscenes), but when I jog, it is similar. Hence, the way I run and jog is specific to me; just like no two people are alike (not even maternal twins are alike; there is a slight differential between them), no two runners are alike (or no two people walk alike).
So, it boils down to the center of gravity. For women, it is more of the hips; for males it is more of the upper body. As some members wrote in this thread, running (walking) is: person specific. Bioware found a medium for females; and it is not exaggerated in my opinion. In DA II, I think it was cute because some women do run and walk like femme Hawke. We have to be thankful that Bioware is among the few companies out there that caters to us females and provides us the choice to play as a female. It is insulting to be called names when one is being as nature intended (I wrote this when the title had Bimbos in it). One can only be oneself. This is a video game after all.
Edit: Good to see that you changed the thread title removing Bimbos from it.

1. The current female walk is a very definitely feminine, characterful walk, which in itself is not necessarily a bad thing, but it means it may not fit the character you want to play.
2. The way it is animated is exaggerated enough to feel unrealistic and unnatural to most women. Maybe even physically impossible.
3. Combined with the extreme alpha male animations in the cutscenes it gives a very glaring inconsistency.

Just making an observation:
When my female character appears side by side with Cassandra in cut-scene video movies, Cassandra is animated as a perfectly acceptable female actor. My female, otoh, is doing this really awkward - many describe it as "manly" - animation. The thing is, I think I recognize that animation. It's the same as in DA:O. They haven't upgraded the whatever engine, which produces the Player Character video-animation, since DA:O.
It seems obvious that they will eventually, thanks to the success of DA:I. Now that they will likely get the time and budget to polish such details in the sequel.

This exactly. They're using the same cut scene animations as DA:O for DA:I. However... I'm struggling to remember if DA2 females suffered from the male animations in cut scenes thing.

Ugh her freaking impossible spine movements bother me more and more each time I play. If all the romances were bisexual I wouldn't play female inquisitors at all I hate her animations that much! ![]()

The way I see it, there are a few separate issues going on here:
While I don't necessarily find the animations in cutscenes to be "extreme alpha male" or anything - I do feel that there should be more gender neutral animations for both male and female players.
I imagine it'd be rather daunting to take every cutscene in the game and make them work with both a "feminine" and "masculine" animation style, depending on the PC gender. The best option IMO would be to find a sort of middle ground and stick to that, across the board.

I'd really love to play a female Qunari warrior if she didn't look so dainty whilst running. It just doesn't seem to fit the race's feel.

I think the best solution is for allowing different walking simulations like in The Sims 4. And no longer using a dude-on-steroids-with-an-elephant-penis for the motion capture in cutscenes, but a more 'in-between' person.
Yes I'm quite bothered by this exaggerated masculin pose and walk and heavy biceps in cutscenes. It's even worse than in Mass Effect 2/3...

Personal point of view :
The problem with the running fem Inquisitor is the warrior class. She put heavy armors with low (almost no) flexibility. For a femshep with skintight high-technology armor, it is possible to use her hips while moving... But with a medieval armor covering the entire body, doing the snake thing is the perfect way to broke your spine!
While she is in SkyHold, it may be possible to walk in a more girly way but it can't be the same while wearing a 50kg+ full plates armor!!
Never tried the male Elf but it is true that a Elf must move with grace, whatever gender we choose.

Plate armor is rather flexible and articulated. It had to be. If not, riding would have been impossible, as would fighting. Also, it didn't weigh nearly as much as you're claiming. It could weigh as little as 30lbs.

The weird thing about this is that in forcing an exaggerated and highly subjective version of 'femininity' on the players, they are also forcing a particular type of character on the player, which is counter to everything an rpg should be. There's a reason that player characters tend to respond with relatively neutral expressions, or show emotion after the dialogue line has been picked and not before. It's so the character can be the person the player wishes them to be, not one who's imposed on them. These female movements impose characterization on the player in the worst possible way as well as making bizare choices for the npcs. I mean, does anyone *really* think Cassandra would run like that? I sure don't. Lol, my mage is running into battle first beacuse I can't bear to see that. If they want to give people the choice, make it less offensively ridiculous--I mean, that would be painful after a quarter mile--and put it on a toggle. I challenge the animators ro run like that for a mile and see how it feels. Also to time themselves and see how much slower it would be than a more efficient run.
