So basically the female inquisitor needs a man to show her how to run.

Btw, this is an incredibly petty thing to complain about, no wonder the whole 3rd wave feminist movement is ridiculed by educated people. Every time there's something you personally don't like you fall back to "THIS IS MISOGYNISTIC" argument. Please, first educate yourselves on what the word means, it's cringeworthy to read this nonsense.

I've certainly seen them defended or praised.

They are the new puritans , anything that can be taken as sexy is sexist because its male gratification. You can never win vs these people unless the right person does it.

This is a ridiculous statement. No one asked for any of those things, at least not with a straight face.

Hell I actually miss the brothel :(

The male dwarf no one will know of my Quizzy's dwarf fever now :(

Yeah, and when's the offer from Vivienne to get better clothes bearing fruit?     <insert DLC remark here>

As one of "those people," I think I have the right to speak for myself.

Never asked for bulkier clothes.  Armor that a warrior would actually use, yes.  I haven't seen anyone demand that the clothes be super bulky.

Never asked for the removal of brothels and I honestly have yet to see that request on the forums by anyone.

Never asked to not wear underwear, though admittedly I don't give a crap one way or the other.  I also haven't seen anyone ask either.

Never asked for sex to be removed for the male romances, but again, I have yet to see anyone ask/demand that sex scenes be removed for straight men.

The fan service shots are pointless and serve no purpose.  So I can't claim I'll miss those.  If that's a true gripe of yours, then I can't say I harbor any sympathy.  Plus, you can see Cassandra topeless in her romance, which is the furthest BioWare has gone yet.  I have yet to see any outrage or anger over that on the forums from "those people."  If anything, it's been parents that are claiming concern for their kids that have been doing the protesting.

I don't find the walk sexist.  Stupid, and badly done yes, but not sexist to me.  I can't speak for anyone else though.

Blanket statements are bad, okay?  Not everyone falls into this nice easy-to-hate package.

The OP, who I quoted in my response, called it both sexist and misogynistic.

And fan service shots serve a purpose, the same purpose that pleasing level up noises and pretty lights and flashy effects and cutting edge graphics and pleasing kinaesthetics serve, to make the game that much more pleasant. Its sad that we have to apologize for that now.

The walk looks fine IMO. An elf doing some imposing power walk everywhere like Axel Stone would just look silly.

Actually, a run animation that looks like an actual woman running would be delightful.

The absence of a hilarious brothel is one of my sole beefs with the game, thus far. I was really hoping it was tradition at this point. Alas.

Going back to the beginning, I'm not 100% certain that this was a serious post. I can confirm that sentiment is not widespread. If anything, I think the fanbase at large would like a larger variety of fan service shots. Dorian's romance comes to mind.

They are the new puritans , anything that can be taken as sexy is sexist because its male gratification. You can never win vs these people unless the right person does it.

This is also a ridiculous statement, and patently untrue. If anything, again - people want to mix a little female gazing in with all that male gazing. They want Bioware to service fans of all stripes, as it were. I think they're doing OK in that regard.

It's still cute that people think there's a secret cabal of feminists conspiring to steal all the boobs from your RPGs. Most of us just want more of everything to go around.

The OP was referring to the walk.  Not clothes, not fan service, not the removal of sex scenes, not any of those things you are talking about aside from the walking animation.  The rest is all in your head.  I also said while I don't find it sexist personally, I can't speak for other people.

And I'm fine with fan service, so long as I can get my female gaze in as well.  You want to see  butt shots of the female characters, then it's only fair to the women players (and bi/gay men) to see butt shots of the male characters as well.  I still don't think it's that important, but different strokes.

Hadn't noticed the walk, though Cassandra does seem to be suffering some odd back ailment.

I have noticed that it looked like she had a bit of a limp or something. I always notice it in the prologue when she walks up to the Inquisitor.

So every woman represents the entire gender? Define "runs like a woman". All women run the same way? I don't understand the idea of "representation" in media. If there's a gay guy in a game, he is suddenly under the scrutiny to represent all gay people? It's ridiculous. I only represent myself and nobody else represents me or my interests. Nobody speaks for me. Taking offense on someone else's behalf is not constructive. Inquisitor runs a certain way, she's not there to represent every chubby tumblr armchair activist, she represents her own character as it is written by Bioware.

I don't mind the run while in combat or exploring, but in Skyhold it looks a bit "much" of a sway of the hips. I wouldn't go as far as calling it a "sexist" walk/run. I rather have that then to have the Male walk/run animation for personal preference.

it was political from the start since OP misused the word "misoginy"

It's the duty of people who do actually care about equality to weed out these whiny idiots that give feminism a bad rep.

P.S. The animation quality has been crap in all Bioware games, especially the smaller scale animations like picking up objects or physically interacting with other characters. It's usually like a parody of itself, really difficult to watch. I doubt they ever used motion capture. Funny how people just ignore the fact that all billion lines of text and character development are extremely progressive to a degree where it's almost hamfisted, yet people complain about stupid stuff like "OMG WALK ANIMATION IS SEXIST U SO SEXIST BIOWARE".

Yes, That's what I meant. The word doesn't fit with this topic. I know, people complain about the beige pajamas and take it too personal :P

Yeah, true. Cassandra is a badass, I just happened to to notice that she had a different animation, and I don't see anyone else limping. I have seen walking animation where they lean more on the right while they walk, especially when the Advisers and Cassandra are walking through the Haven Chantry.

There's a difference between just jogging around and a combat run/athletic footwork (trained, situational technique), OP. Whoever this is news to, whether you realize it or not, women swing when they move, according to their body type and mood. That's not misogyny. It's biology. And fem-Quizzy's got a very natural, neutral, not even happy swing. I hate it when people throw derogatory attacks around because nature doesn't line up with whatever their personal political bent tells them they should be offended by. No swing isn't equal treatment. It's nonsense political fiction.

You need to appreciate that a resource limitation doesn't suddenly make everything terrible.

Phantom animations from ME3. Those are the animations for one enemy type and they are carefully crafted.

Now you can argue the toss about how good or bad any animation is, that's not the point, the point is that BioWare's animators chose to (for whatever reason) make the animations the way they did.

Thanks for making me miss Mass Effect all over again!  That music!

I will also chime in - as a woman I personally don't think any of these animation choices are sexist, just head-scratching, perhaps a bit lazy and will take me out of the immersion sometimes.  My female Inquisitor is a warrior but has stick arms, why is she slouching and spreading her legs when she's a noble, etc.  It's nothing that keeps me up at night, but I did notice this going back to Mass Effect with Femshep.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't they just come up with the basic mo-cap skeleton and then lay skins on top of it?  So why not add skins that are have thicker arms and a non-alien looking torso?  This doesn't address the silly walk and standing poses of course.

That's quite a reasonable piece of criticism, irrational whiners in this thread please take notes.

And yeah, it kinda annoys me that you can't pick a body type or height for your character, A tanky female should have different more rigid posture to a nimble rogue. It's not about being feminine or masculine it's about making sense in terms of what the character does.  I mean come on, it's a big budget title in 2014, face editing shouldn't be the only customization allowed. Although animations are quite poor in this game anyway, I mean they couldn't even be bothered to animate a handshake in the first part of the game where Cassandra starts the inquisition, they had to do it below the camera so you couldn't see it :D . I guess they wanted the game to have epic scale because they completely misunderstood the complaints about Dragon Age 2 and overcompensated for it to ridiculous degree, so now we have more stuff with less detail and effort put into it.

I would be happy if my Femquisitor would just stop slouching.  Yes I hate the walk of her, but the way she sits bothers me more. legs wide open.  If I have to choose a battle I would choose posture over all the walking. And just dont let her sit like that, it is...almost insulting.

I was so happy to see that my female inquisitor moved like a female. That was the most annoying part of the mass effect series was femshep walking like a dude, even in a mini skirt, just horrible. However they shouldn't have the running animation quite that exaggerated for the female inquisitor. The walk is fine, that's how my wife walks, but she doesn't run like that.

This has to be one of the most sexest Nit picking oreinted Threads I have ever seen.

1. the men all run, walk, act, and stand around like Dudley Do-Right, and no one says a thing other than and occasional comment, which is quickly ignored.

2. The Women walks, and run's like Marilyn Monroe who was Idolized by Millions, and every one is up in arms.

3. Every one here is so Prudish, I find it wonderful that they do make some differences in the female animations as opposed to the male. So many games have the Female walking around like some cow, because many games use the same animations for the female as they have for the male.

4. Why is it a weakness for a lady to act like a lady, and why must they be given degrading names when they do this, why is it they are weak because they don't walk tough, and act like John Wayne or Arnold Schwarzenegger.

5 . I do agree that the sitting, and slouchy animation behavior of the female is very off, but the running, and walking is fine.

6. I complain about a lot of things that trouble my game play, but this is not one of them. It is hard to believe that so many thread pages are wasted on this topic, when there are so many more truly needed complaints LOL ( I am laughing while typing this.) But I do think this is a very over kill subject.
