How would a more limited form of barrier generation "crumble" the class? It just means you're not in invincible mode all the time.

An Abyss nerf is even more pointless since solo AW doesn't use Abyss. Abyss is much better in a group. The goal is to try to nerf solo AW not team-based AW.

Silly me, I thought the point of this thread was to get the AW nerfed across the board.   :pinched:

As far as people being able to solo... well... whatever?  I mean, if you're just playing multiplayer to solo, who are you hurting besides yourself?

An AW can join the group mid-progress, playing a solo playstyle and destroying the challenge of playing on Perilous.

Are you saying that OP characters should not be balanced?

Make up my mind here.  Are AW godlike solo or in a group?  Because I play my AW in a group and, while very strong (as is the Legionnair, imho), he is by no means invincible.

Why?  Because the AW depends on having all the aggro in order to build his barrier.  If other players are killing things, his barrier lessens as a result.  This has been my admittedly limited experience, anyway, I'm on my 3rd AW and I've only been successful a few times in Perilous missions.

(In before L2P comments, because if the average person like myself is not godlike with an AW, is there really a problem?)

AW already got nerfed into the ground, although I think it was a heavy handed fix.  Spirit blade no longer  has the Impact detonator power, so it renders useless his ability to detonate combos, unless you use stonefist or mindblast (which I don't believe has had its 2nd skill glitch fixed yet). That means no shatters from freezing, no nightmares from Asleep, etc. They pretty much nullified builds that relied on combo detonation to generate barrier and made fade step almost mandatory, which is gross because AW with fade step is a very FoTM copy pasta build.  WIthout ANY kind of dev communication, we don't know why that got nerfed.  They should replace the impact power on spirit blade as the 2nd tier skill, and fol the reflective blade in as a base level perk.

I honestly feel the character should be adjusted, it's too damn brain dead and encourages everyone to flock towards it as a crutch.

Imo it should not be more durable than a fully specced Tank Warrior, completely senseless/mind numbing how anyone could feel otherwise. Barrier generation simply needs to be adjusted, it has 2 very easy get - out of jail moves with Step and Cloak there's absolutely no reason to be THAT beefy on top of it.

I love the class concept but there is no real risk for being bad and not much reward for being competent.

Fuckin' revenant. Don't know how often I had to reload the friggin' battles with my Aeducan grill dorf at Orzammar.

Personally I found the one in the forest (one with a Juggernaut helmet, I think) to be more frustrating.

They need to be able to tank enemies less.

Warriors need to be able to tank enemies more. As it stands, they are no where near capable of taking damage compared to AW.

With that said, I'll always choose warrior tank over AW. There's something very satisfying about building guard constantly with the legionaire. I wish people didn't play AW as much. They always go off and solo. It makes it so boring if you're playing..well...any class. I like playing as a necro/elementalist and AoE'ing the crap out of people. I like playing as a keeper who zooms in and plants a disruption field. I like playing as an assassin, and after having the AW group them in Pull of the Abyss, slicing right through them all dealing massive amounts of damage and returning to stealth.

AW could be an awesome teammate - when spec'ed for team play. Otherwise, he just frustrates me. That, or you'll get the AW who thinks they can solo and then just gets themselves killed...repeatedly..

Behold what threads like this one have wrought.

Seriously, the AW is really really fun when playing as part of the team.  Honestly, I cringe whenever another AW joins my party because inevitably they will go off on their own and just be annoying.

I have honestly never promoted my AW once... In fact, he is still at level 11. I find him rather boring and one-dimensional, at least until I can build up the enough tolerance for Spirit Blade spam-SB-to-level him into a pure Control Rift Mage.

I love going into a PUG lobby with some player bragging about how good the AW can tank. Principle #1 of a tank is aggro control, of which the AW has little. He is not a bloody tank at all. He has sustainability, and that's it.

The Legionnaire is my favourite class so far, barely ahead of the Assassin and Templar. The Legionnaire was the first class (of three) with which I clutched zone 5 demons on Perilous because, well, Payback Strike. The arrogant "AW-is-the-perfect-class" player in our party died on that one.

I thought about why I liked those three so much, and I realized it was because they have a lot of build variety. Hell, it took me 3 promotions to find the way I wanted my Assassin and I still have not "perfected" my Legionnaire or Templar (I say "perfected" in so much as "perfected" to my play-style) after two promotions.

Also, I have not found an AW that can kill faster than an assassin in the matches I have played on various difficulties, if both played with equal skill. Why? I think it's because the AW was most designed for CC and not DPS or tanking, as most people think. Maybe I just haven't seen a really good AW yet?

TL;DR: From the moment I saw the IGN video about the Knight-Enchanter soloing a high dragon with Spirit Blade, I was bored with any of the skills of the class. Can the AW be good? Probably, but likely focusing heavily on the Rift Mage Control/Support abilities.

Yeah, aggro control. Legionaires are beastly at that. That's why I adore them.

I also find assassins to be deadly as hell. Almost one shots enemies on high difficulties, and certainly kills them outright at lower difficulties. I use to think they weren't good - until I played as one. You really have to learn how to position. Always get behind enemies. I spec'd my assassin to pretty much always be in stealth. I lucked out and had a perfect first build with her. Absolutely, probably one of the fastest killing characters.

AW can be fun for me, but it's when I don't play him as the normal AW. I don't rely on his spirit blade ability. I have upgraded stonefist, upgraded PoA, upgraded chain lightning - and spirit blade (because why would I play him otherwise?). I just sit more towards the back, and protect the squishies while dishing out some nice CC. That makes him more fun.

I play a mean tank, and so I loved the Legionnaire and Templar almost immediately. So many ways to make unstoppable juggernauts...

I built my Assassin around Death Blow, Flank Attack, Hidden Blades, and Stealth. The only stealth passive I skipped was I Was Never Here because don't like having to waste a point on Fallback Plan to get it, and I realized I rarely needed it in between Flank Attack upgraded and me attacking so fast Stealth averaged less than 10 seconds on cooldown. On Perilous, I could take down the entire back row of archers as my Assassin before the entire rest of the party could kill half the melee mobs. Of course, because I am very mindful of positioning and target priority with my Assassin, 90% of my kills are archers.

Yeah, I will honestly build my AW around Rift Mage skills. I don't like the selfish playstyle of the Knight-Enchanter class, as I already said, so you and I are on the same page there. Control/Support classes are where the real fun and creativity is at!

What bothers me, is not that AW got nerfed, but NO NOTES from Devs. Its really annoying that devs doing what they wants and dont event tell us players who carefully adjusting their chars.
