Who cares? It's way more fun to murder knife civilians anyway.
(Thinks back to tossing the murder knife at Brother Genitivi's head. Sighs wistfully.)

Probably because a sociopath 'herald' wouldn't last very long. In the game you're trying to work your reputation up, and killing people left and right just because you don't like them doesn't really help. Hawke and the warden were nobodies at first so they could get away with that behavior, but it's not really the same for the Inquisitor.
So they could bring them back i they want to.
And you know what? I'm ok with that.
As much as I would like the option to kill Cole instead of being mind raped by him, if they have serious plans or intentions about bringing certain characters back in vital roles, they shouldn't give us the option to kill those people.
While I've never personally taken the option of killing Leliana, I do firmly believe she should have stayed dead for people who did take that option, and that if they had a role in mind for her that couldn't be filled by another character, they shouldn't have given us the option to kill her in the first place.
So if that's what they're doing now, I'm ok with it. Even if there are certain characters I would rather not deal with again, I would prefer they be untouchable compared to them being brought back from the dead and imposed on those who killed them.
Yes, I miss this feature immensely. There is quite a lot of toxic, even abominable elements in your Inquisition and they should be purged.
Pfff, PC should be untouchable and free to murder-knife anyone he wishes without consequences.
Scratch the consequences bit and you just gave the game another twenty hours.
You can also tell Cole to leave. Or just not recruit him. You can also deny Viv, Bull, Dorian and Blackwall. That leaves Cass, Solas and Varric as the only non-optional companions.
We still can't kill anyone tho. Poor Zev's swarmy voice meant he saw the murder knife more often than not for my female wardens. That and my rule of thumb role play that any survivors receive all the mercy they would show me if the fight had gone the other way.
I know you can deny them, but once in you can't really get rid of most of them. I know Dorian can leave, and you can take advantage of Blackwall's situation to get rid of him, Cole will leave. But for everyone else, once recruited they are just there even if you change your mind about them. The only one you can outright boot is Sera. I can understand keeping on varric, cass, and solas as they were there before the Inquisition was formed but for everyone else you're just not allowed to get rid of them unless you play a second game and metagame it.
Poor Zev. lol! I like him but he comes off as kinda dirty. I just know he's had to see a few mages about curing several stds.

Sera in my case who do you want to murder knife?

Dorian. The first quasi Tevinter companion who stands against TI values.

So you're pro-Imperium and pro-elf? You're a weird dude.

Elvhes are my favourites. Tevinter breed of humans comes as second and only because they are similar to the Ancient Elvhes. I would not mind erasement and enslavement of the remains of TI if it happend in favour of the second Elvhenan.
On topic, the more I think about it the more I miss this option.
ITT Sociopathic tendencies.

We're not sociopaths. We're just edgy.
I have booted Cole before. I don't know how long you are able to ask him to leave but I know it was after he asked my to bind him and before that chain was completed. I remember I asked Cassandra for advice and she told me Cole was a bad choice to have around. So I told him to hit the road. The only one you can outright boot is Sera.
Well, it's pretty simple. The writers want the flexibility to bring back characters. You want to kill them. So the compromise is this: you get to kill them, and they get to bring them back to life. Everyone makes sacrifices. Deal?
I had play throughs of DAO where Leiliana was killed at the Temple of Sacred Ashes. She was brought back to life in DA2.
I had a play through of DA2 with multiple LIs where I killed Anders and Varric, in his summary, said that Anders never left Hawke's side.... Varric, Anders was dead. "Anders sweetie. Your arm fell off again, would you mind picking it up off the floor? And do something about that rotting stench, would you? Dog! Stop gnawing on his leg!"
So by rights, zombie Anders should show up in this game.
They will have their favourites that they will want in the next expansion or game and then they won't have to revive them from the dead.
They should at least allow us to torture them if they don't want to let us butcher them. I think it would be quite amazing to incorporate lore heavy set of actions you can take against your companions. For an example pour glass of blood down Cassandra's throat and chant some nasty blood magick. Forcefully turn Dorian from non straight to straight with the use of blood magick ritual received from his father. Cut off Iron Bull's Horns. Send assassin's after Vivienne's lover etc.
Because they knew I would murderknife Solas at the first opportunity.
Whats the deal with that? In both DA Origins and even DA2 we could kill most of our companions I didn't do it very often but it was nice to have the option
Now no matter how much you hate them you can only send them away, pretty lame if you ask me
Because 90% of BSN would just murder knife Sera on the spot.
"Sh*ts, the lot of them," she'd say.
Some already said it. Because they want to be able to use them without retcon complaints.
And I'm fine with that. I just wish you could tell more of them to bounce after having recruited them.
*Sarcasm* The murder knife has been promoted to ornamental/decoration status due to services rendered in the past DA games. ![]()
I imagine my assassin inquisitor would put this pride of place in his trophy room just because of the history. It also should have had it's own codex entry explaining the 'history'.
Aside note: I don't hate any of our companions enough to knife them.
was there even an option to murder-knife any unimportant NPC?
Edit: wait no.

If you're romancing Dorian, you can kill the merchant who's trying to extort you over Dorian's amulet. Of course doing so means that Dorian will dump you, so it sort of defeats the purpose.

Obviously, renegade doesn't go over well in the Dragon Age verse.
