Hi all,

While I write this, Dragon Age: Inquisition is number 2 in the voting for IGN's game of the year (overall, number 1 is Super Smash Bros). It's also 1st for PS4 (didn't check other platforms since I'm playing in PS4).

Thought some of you might be interested: http://ie.ign.com/li...latform/overall

On Gamespot, DA:I is leading in every category it's entered in, by a country mile.

It didn't win on PS4, Shadow of Mordor did: http://www.gamespot....me-of-the-year/

I believe he was talking about the user vote, in which currently DAI has a 43% to 23% lead over Shadows of Mordor. Honestly i can't even fathom how Shadows won since its just Assassins Creed: Mordor, but eh w/e. I guess it would just look bad if the same game won each award from the editors so they decided to spread out the wins.

Ah, you are right. It's leading the voting even for XBOX360 and PC (which I didn't expect, considering the game is optimized for PS4 and XBone).

That's surprising. Hard to see Mordor winning overall GOTY so I guess that'll go to Bayonetta 2.

IGN poll is neck and neck SSB and DA: I.

Not surprising. 2014 has been a terrible year for major releases, so Dragon Age, though it's miles from perfect is the obvious standout for most people. It's got too many issues that are personal bugbears for me to vote for it, but I can see why a lot of people would. I'd expect it to win most of major awards based on it being big, shiny, and just released. Gamers are like magpies; easily enthralled by anything bright and flashy.

Maybe some people are voting for it because they actually like the game very much, rather than it just being 'bright and flashy'. I know it's my game of the year, and 'flash' or lack thereof doesn't bother me in the slightest, I'm just loving my time with DAI.

As it should be. DAI is easily the best game released this year. That's not saying much, honestly, but DAI is certainly a metric tonne of awesome.

The competition is absolute garbage in AAA games this year, so I'm hardly surprised.

yeah and thats deserved
definitely my GOTY for this year but even if it came out last year with more quality AAA games I would still have chosen
DA:I over the likes of Bioshok Infinite and The Last of Us

It's leading now by 10 votes.  I wonder if that's because of this thread....!

Would have been very tough against GTA 5 and Bioshock Infinite (which would have been my choice)

I think GTA 5 beats DAI as a better game but I was really underwhelmed by BioShock.

I think if DA:I had been released next year, the whole thing would be far more interesting.

Games you don't play are loved by many others. Just because games you never play were on the GOTY doesn't mean this year's competition is a bit garbage.

There are a bunch of games that are lightyears better than DA:I. GTA5, Shadows of Mordor, Blackguards, Bayonetta 2, Darks Souls 2, Far Cry 4, Super Smash Bros., Wasteland 2.... the list is endless. Shadowrun: Dragonfall is missing from the list for some reason.

I voted for Divinity: Original Sin.

PC also. It's behind for the overall game of the year again.

Bioshock is an overrated series.

Interesting thing to note: It looks like more indie gamers are on Gamespot than IGN, because Divinity's getting a significant number of votes in the "Readers Choice best PC game of the year" on Gamespot, but not really on IGN...

I will never understand the love for Divinity. It's like Icewind Dale or ToEE.

When I hear people praise Divinity, I usually hear praise for the combat system. So I suppose people like it because of that.

Not surprisingly these same people are pissed that Pillars of Eternity have removed experience gained from combat XD

Not sure about that. People find the games they don't like overrated. I personally find Witcher series overrated but it has a huge following

My guess : It is not on consoles

3 months earlier or later and DAI doesn't get a sniff.

GOTY awards should be decided in like ~March of the following year so that people can get a bit of perspective.

This is a common complaint brought out, however the game which is beating it (I think it's the Wii edition of SSB) was released AFTER DA:I. So, people need to remember DA:I is not the ONLY game getting this advantage. There's a host of other games in the list that have only been released for a couple of months also.
