This is a common complaint brought out, however the game which is beating it (I think it's the Wii edition of SSB) was released AFTER DA:I. So, people need to remember DA:I is not the ONLY game getting this advantage. There's a host of other games in the list that have only been released for a couple of months also.

Yep, I daresay the same applies to Smash Bros too. These games are winning because they're fresh in people's minds (and also due to the one off weakness of the year ofc). A game typically has to be much better to win from January than to win from the middle of November.

That said, I'd take the consensus of Gamespot and IGN users with a pinch of salt whatever they decided.

These awards are meaningless, but it's nice that DA:I was good enough to get the media's attention enough to be mentioned in the running.

I'd even put Shadows of Mordor in there, September isn't too long ago.

Anyway I'd prepare yourself for an influx of Reader's Choice awards. They've already won the Reader's Choice on Kotaku, they've racked up 9 or 10 GOTY awards already, and this is really just the beginning. They've just reached the semi-finals of the Escapist user poll.

It won't win every award out there, but it's gonna win a whole bagfull.

Eh IGN's pst winners by release date (Readers Choice):

June, September, November, January, and October.

Gamespot

November, March, November, May, and October.

Seems like it works OK to me.

3 months earlier or later and DAI doesn't get a sniff.

GOTY awards should be decided in like ~March of the following year so that people can get a bit of perspective.

What are all these supposedly great games released next year? There's no new GTA game, Bestheda isn't releasing anything...

Is there an Arkham game?

Ha! I think they're in for a rude surprise. Witcher 2 was evidence CDProjekt was headed towards the same console-friendly, casual, non-complex experience Bioware are.

Arkham Knight, yes. Also Pillars of Eternity, Torment, Uncharted 4 on PS4 and obviously TW3. Oh, and Bloodborne, the successor game to Dark Souls/Demon Souls. Not sure what else is out that supposedly makes next year that much better than this year.

But then for me, this year has had Wasteland 2, Shadowrun, Divinity (which I found fine but not stellar), South Park, Mordor, Dark Souls 2, Alien:Isolation, Far Cry 3, Vanishing of Ethan Mars,  as well as DAI and a few others ... hardly the dire year for gaming some have claimed. But then I suppose tastes differ :)

Pillars of Eternity is currently getting panned by D&D fans for not offering experience in combat, and for making everything too "balanced."

Torment is being made by the same guys who made Wasteland 2, which has been dubbed "soulless" and "by the book."

The Witcher 3 is the sequel to the simplified, and "casualised," Witcher 2.

What a wonderful place the Gaming Industry is currently XD

The first party stuff for the new consoles will start dropping next year. Uncharted 4 and/or Halo will clean up in the user voting I'd imagine. Metal Gear Solid, Zelda, Batman, Witcher 3 in the mix too.

Realistically, Inquisition wouldn't be in the conversation next year.

I blame the internet. One side is for porn, and the other is to complain. Its basically that simple. Oh some little percentage for science, research and stuff like that, but the internet really wasn't made for those things anyway.

Porn and complaints ... now that I did one thing in this thread, let's see what the other thing has to offer .... OMG UNBELIEVABLE WHAT ARE THEY DOING THERE I CANNOT WATCH BUT .... *gfewjgfeg*

I think that's a pretty debatable view of the Witcher franchise. In terms of combat The Witcher was never all that complex, and TW2's was just plain better in every way.

In terms of meaningful choices, the entirety of Act 2 of TW2 is completely different depending on your choices. That is insane for a game with the production value of TW2. You can't really ask for more than that; it's as far removed from modern Bioware's smoke and mirror choices as you could hope to get.

The Witcher 2's smoke and mirrors of course evaporate when you get to Act 3.

In any case I think keyip's point was the abundance of negativity that seems to be visible in any gaming topic.

There are a bunch of games that are lightyears better than DA:I. GTA5, Shadows of Mordor, Blackguards, Bayonetta 2, Darks Souls 2, Far Cry 4, Super Smash Bros., Wasteland 2.... the list is endless. Shadowrun: Dragonfall is missing from the list for some reason.

I voted for Divinity: Original Sin.

no one cares because DA:I will probably win GOTY and its better than all of those games in my opinion (except GTA 5 maybe but it was released last year, remastered doesn't count)

seems like your joke about you representing a large portion of the fanbase was lets just say a bit exaggerated

Let me channel my inner nerd. *Deep breath* No stats, diluted skills, diluted alchemy, no stances in combat and combat itself reduced to a "rolling simulator". Actually... why don't I link you a very sarcastic review which summarises all the complaints "RPG fans" had with the Witcher 2 :)

I believe he was talking about the user vote, in which currently DAI has a 43% to 23% lead over Shadows of Mordor. Honestly i can't even fathom how Shadows won since its just Assassins Creed: Mordor, but eh w/e. I guess it would just look bad if the same game won each award from the editors so they decided to spread out the wins.

They have to tick all the same boxes as a review does in order to be objective. Even then i don't see how it won editors choice tbh but meh.

:D God, that stupid Letho fight...I don't know how long it took me and it was no fun at all. For all its good sides, it's a game with many problems indeed and TW1 (which wasn't without problems either, but more easily forgivable ones) had much more charm...

The common thread in all those seems to be a frustration that games are too simple and too easy. There is an audience out there that is clamoring for games that are complex and unforgivingly difficult like they used to be in the old days. The popularity of the Souls games, which have complex systems and difficult combat, is a testament to the desire of many for developers to stop spoon feeding players and challenge them.
