Wasn't their criticism that it wasn't hard enough?

Divinity was by far my favorite game of this past year. Having played the beta of POE though I have to say if the game doesn't get at least another six months of dev time, lack of combat xp is going to be very far down on the list of complaints people have with it.
That's a worry. I'm looking forward to PoE and have pre-ordered the deluxe edition on Steam. Hopefully they address the issues identified before releasing.

I will never understand the love for Divinity. It's like Icewind Dale or ToEE.
There is a lot of love for Divinity specifically for this reason. It's got a "throwback" feel to it and re-introduces isometric RPG's into the market. I, for one, love that game because of its old school gameplay with a new age face!

As far as that list goes I feel DA:I should get goty (imo)
Semi related. I was on the fence for Shadow of Mordor but since its being mentioned in the same sentence as DA:I or even goty for that matter, I might finally get it. Trust me I always tell people to make up their own mind when it comes to game purchases but for Shadow I couldn't decided even after watching so many gameplay vids etc. I like the gameplay and story but was afraid it might be too short. ![]()

This thread is downright hilarious.
'it only wins because everything else was crap'
Really, people? REALLY? That's how we're gonna play it?

Great game. Don't expect an RPG though (how some people did after seeing gameplay vids, I have no idea...) and don't expect to play it twice.

Hi all,
While I write this, Dragon Age: Inquisition is number 2 in the voting for IGN's game of the year (overall, number 1 is Super Smash Bros). It's also 1st for PS4 (didn't check other platforms since I'm playing in PS4).
Thought some of you might be interested: http://ie.ign.com/li...latform/overall
yeah I cant take this seriously if they compare apples and dai against oranges and a game yhat is about as different as can be from dai

The concept of 'every game released in 2014' is difficult to grasp?

It doesn't reintroduce "isometric RPGs" but rather the combat dungeon simulators like ToEE and IWD. BG2 and especially Torment (and even FO2) are entirely different games that have a very different design philosophy. It's fine to like that type of game, but IWD is basically the create your party, turn-based equivalent of Diablo.

It will always be that way. If someone doesn't enjoy something, for whatever reason: it doesn't live up to their standards, it's not what they expected/wanted, it just irks them, whatever. There will always be people who will say that fan's opinions don't matter in terms of awards, reviews etc. Some of these people will turn around and claim bias in the reviewing process among actual reviewers.
In a way, it's somewhat understandable that there will always be flaws and bias in reviews, and the reviewing process as a whole. That's why they should probably used as a guide, and not the end-all-be-all definitive answer to whether a game's good or not, wrapped up by a neat little number that can be arbitrarily associated to a game without taking every factor into consideration. This goes hand in hand with the award process.
Whether the game wins based on fan-vote, or whether it wins based on a small handful of people's opinions, there will be those that just don't agree. That's fine, and voicing your opinion's fine, but I will say this, games don't usually pick up this many awards unless they appeal to people. The game may not appeal to you, but it's certainly struck a chord with some.
I can certainly understand the frustration of a game one likes not winning awards that one thinks it's deserving of. That shouldn't diminish the enjoyment you get out of playing a game you enjoy though.

This is what everybody wants though. Editor's choice are always flawed and corrupt, user's opinions are what counts apparently. Unfortunately now that Inquisition is picking up so many "Fan awards" people are changing their opinion again. Tis amusing.
Hehe, I'm surprised at what words get automatically "starred"-out here and which don't when I look at the text you quoted in your post ![]()

Let us be honest, 2014 has been pretty bad as far as major AAA releases go, and these are among the only have who have a chance at winning the IGN/Gamespot popularity contest GOTY vote. Watch Dogs, AC:Unity, Far Cry 4, Call of Duty redux, Destiny, Borderlands Pre-Sequel, all of these got mixed receptions. Save for the Metacritic bombers, Inquisition seems to have fared better. Shadow of Mordor and Alien: Isolation seem to have been the only major or semi-major releases that got generally praised.

you know Biowaremod03, most sensible forums that want to censor words put them through a filter to come out as stars or to be replaced with some other words.
Failing to do so and then deleting my post is stupid and makes you look like a troll. Censor the ****** words if you don't want to see them.

Pillars of Eternity is currently getting panned by D&D fans for not offering experience in combat, and for making everything too "balanced."
Torment is being made by the same guys who made Wasteland 2, which has been dubbed "soulless" and "by the book."
The Witcher 3 is the sequel to the simplified, and "casualised," Witcher 2.
What a wonderful place the Gaming Industry is currently XD
First word I get of any of those complaints.
Only simplified thing in TW2 was alchemy (no bases or secondary components, on the other side side effects were more prominent and required more thinking about what potion to use. Also, crowd control was better, no longer switch to group style and taking 3 swings).

I'd vote for Divinity: Original Sin myself, but that's a product of me valuing gameplay (and lore, to be fair) over everything else in this kind of game and not being particularly happy with the changes introduced in the last two Dragon Age iterations.
It should also be noted an unusually high percentage of AAA titles failed to live up to the hype they built up. Inquisition does not have as much competition as it would have had in recent years, but that has nothing to do with BioWare or the product they created, nor does it take any credit away from them.

I enjoyed divinity, but it has the lamest story and characters ive seen in an rpg in a while. And rock paper scissors dialogue was awful.

I don't disagree. Except perhaps with your point regarding the dialogue system-- I found it to be rather entertaining when playing with friends (which accounts for ~90% of my Divinity playtime).
Figured I'd note: I edited the post you quoted. It was incomplete.

The gameplay was top notch tho, and i really enjoyed the elemental magic environmental effects. Wouldnt put it as Goty for the points i mentioned, and I probably enjoyed my 100 hour playthrough on DAI more than divinity.
