Please, BioWare, don't make DA4 an MMO

Because MMOS make investors a crap ton of money, even the rubbish ones that fall apart after a month or two and are a complete waste of harddisk space to even install.

All they need to do is sell crates that have a 1 in 100 chance of containing an item from a soft core porn outfit and they can laugh all the way to the bank :(

Please, people, let's not attack each other.

We may have different views, but let's discuss them instead of getting angry.

If the best you can do in defending your points is to try to deflect what I said by insisting that I was "raging" in my previous post, you should work a little harder on writing something substantive. Yes, the game is more like Skyrim - but Skyrim is basically the same as past Bethesda TES games.

I just stated a fact. Perhaps it's just an online thing so it's a misunderstanding. But you seem angry and for what? Bringing up the dissatisfaction over the MMO style of their storytelling? I didn't tell you to click on this thread.

The TES games have always emphasized an open world and exploration, and none of them were based on MMOs. Your dislike of the content and the inclusion of elements that you feel are typical of MMOs still doesn't give any credence whatsoever to the premise of this thread, which seems to be that just because elements that people don't like and feel are MMO-like mean that the next DA game will be an MMO.

And? It doesn't change the fact that it feels that way so people are reaching a possible conclusion that a DA MMO could be on the horizon. No one can say for certain whether it is or isn't. It's all speculation and I stand by mine. Now unless you work for BW and can say for certain that it will never happen, then I can only see us going back and forth over nothing.

As for brothels, so what if they existed in past games? Why is it a requirement that they insert one into every game simply because brothels existed in the first two games? They didn't ultimately lend an unsavory air to the previous games because...they...were...there...largely...for...humor. I sincerely doubt that their absence was because BW is suddenly pretending that they don't exist. Here's what I think: there wasn't a brothel because it's just not relevant and, frankly, because the overall tone is pretty sober.

Okay, that is your opinion. Mine is that they are cleaning up their game of some of the more unsavory bits, maybe to clean it up for a possible MMO or just to not appear "sexist", unless we're going to pretend the game hasn't been accused as such. As a matter of fact there is a recent thread somewhere on this forum calling the brothels sexist.

If a sober mood is what they were after, they didn't go a good job with hamfisted Cory running amok.

Now with regards to the romance scenes, how is the fact that they're only accessible via the romances particularly relevant in supporting your point about sanitization, etc.? The scenes exist and are accessible to anyone who wants to access them. It's mature content in the game, and it's there for everyone. It's also considerably more impactful than the brothels if you want actual adult content.

Most of that content won't be unlocked. I stated it because it is a fact. Besides, I didn't even list the romances as my reason for it turning into MMO. The fact that I left it out of my list only shows that I don't consider it sanitized content. So there is no need to even defend them.

Cullen's little streaking scene is amusing, but the fact that content is or isn't locked does NOT make the game "sanitized." I don't know what logic you're operating under that says that all mature content must be thrown in your face at random for it to actually be mature and for it to count. As for the Desire demon issue, that was a generic "you" as opposed to referring to you specifically. It is, however, a common thing that gets brought up by some male forumites - hence my heavy level of sarcasm about Desire demons at this point.

I never said it had to be thrown in my face. Just placed in the world. Not seeing how having it there is throwing it people's faces. But I guess it's a matter of perception.  I don't see what's so wrong with asking where the desire demons went. We still have the same old rage demons popping up at every single fade rift all over this map. They could have given us some more variety. Perhaps no one would have cared if their weren't so many of the same respawns.  As for the context, I guess no one in DAI desire anything apparently. Remember, that it's not just sexual desire they fulfill but simply a desire for anything. You mean to tell me that no one desired an end to the hole in the sky or to see their family again? The desire demon in DAO fulfilled the wishes of a Templar who wanted a family. In DA2 one aided Sebastian's relative and gave her power. I find it really hard to believe that out of all the back stabbing, political intrigue, desire for power, that not a single desire demon would take advantage.

Why does everyone always badmouth SWtOR?

Random thread is random

Yeah, this seems like a way to worry (and argue) over...basically nothing.

I never badmouthed it, I simply said that we do not need another game like it.

I was so ecstatic when I got into the SWTOR beta, and I loved it until I finished the main story.  I came back for the Hutt expansion, but now they just seem to be adding fluff and group missions.  If they add more story, I'll probably pick it up again just for that, and then drop it again after I'm done.

I really don't want Dragon Age to suffer the same watered-down story fate any more than it already has.

I don't want a DA MMO either, I already think DA:I is way too much like your typical MMO with a million fetch quests. I just never got the overwhelming dislike from the BSN of SWtOR, I love playing all the class stories and it's the only MMO I've ever liked. ^_^

I was under the impression that it was only new flashpoints.  What I hated the most is that if I wanted the whole storyline, I had to run flashpoints, and finding groups for a lot of them was an exercise in futility.

After swtor I highly doubt it. I still mourn the death of the kotor series.

Considering that they learnt nothing from the succes of ME3 mp to make an interesting mp. I dont think you need to worry about that.

Move back to story driven gameplay though, less action

*recalls the nightmare that was SWTOR*

...I would quite literally die if they even thought to do something along the MMO lines.

*shivers at the thought*

I'm assuming SWTOR was terrible at launch? I've been playing it with a group of friends who all loved KOTOR 1 and 2, and we've been having a fun time.

Well if you look at the whole focus on needless excessive crafting, grinding for good loot that will never come, or the mounts, then I can see why this would be compared to an MMO.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?! Is it the Revan one?! I stopped playing because I wanted more class content and the one time I don't buy the expansion it has the thing I want?! GAH!

I don't play MMO's because I play games in order to get away from real people and real life. Escapism. I wasn't even remotely worried about them turning DA into an MMO until I saw this and now I am.

Oh dear ><

If anything Dragon Age should be more like TOR, at least the side quests in that game had some effort put into them.

The new expansion does have a solo storyline like Makeb, and this time around they wised up and made solo versions of the new flashpoints and operations available to those who don't have/want a group (also the Forged Alliances flashpoints, which lead up to the expansion content).

Story-wise, it's still a bit thin compared to DA, but I enjoyed it.

Well...I did remember reading an article saying that DA:I started out as a multiplayer game...Oh, dear God Bioware please don't even consider making DA:4 an MMO. The whole reason why people love the Dragon Age franchise is because of it's single player campaign and story! Why does every company feel the need to make MMO games out of well loved single player games?

If Bioware makes DA4 an MMO that will be it for me personally. I don't and won't play MMO's. My loss you might say. Well ok,  so be it. but I doubt very much Bioware would risk losing the single player DA games for an MMO.

I think it's too big of a step to assume DA4 will be an MMO. I fail to see any signs pointing towards it.

Also the assumption that MMO = easy money is wrong. Anyone remember Kingdoms of Amalur? 38 Studies, their developers, became bankrupt because they didn't sell enough. 133 million US dollars gone. City of Heroes? Closed by NCSoft because unprofitable. MMOs require a lot of money and effort (and PR) to make it work.

Plus with the way DA works (running around with a party, conversing with companions and so on) I don't see it working well in an MMO format.

The only aspect of the game that really screamed MMO to me is how certain enemies - brute units, specifically - were disproportionately large. You see that a lot in MMO's where they'll make an enemy bigger than PC models to make them easy to target.

In DAI, it seemed horribly out of place and rather annoying. Had all these humans running around bigger than Bull or my qunari inquisitor. Took a little bit of the fun out of it.

Why does everyone always badmouth SWtOR?

I have no idea. I've been playing for 3 years and I still love it. Sure their wasn't enough endgame content at release for the people who ignored the 8 games worth of story content and speed levelled like it was WoW, with little story and many years of growth, but that hasn't been true for a long time. So...color me baffled.

This whole thread assumes that Bioware doesn't want to make single player games anymore, which is hardly the case

As a Carole King would say: It's too late, baby.

It's already in development. I hear they are taking inspiration from ESO.

I hope it's just a rumor :( I'm an elder scrolls fan but playing ESO was so incredibly boring to me (like every MMO other than SWtOR) I had to force myself to play for even an hour at a time (because I was begged by a friend) but after maybe 5 hours total I canceled my subscription. Worst $60 I've ever spent :/
