The issue has a lot to do with expectations as you have indicated. Our experience with EA/Bioware games has been pretty good, so we expect, rather realistically, as technology advances, so will the games. Most of us felt that Bioware was on the verge of a truly award winning step forward in RPG game development because of the behavior data they were gathering to build NPCs that you could fall in love with and what we got fell far short.
That said, lets look a people and how consistency affects things. A game, simply put, is a set of questions that the player must answer to proceed forward and within that framework there are "rules" -Its Human nature to reject changing the rules in any game. Humans like a consistent set of rules that we can agree on, changing them will always cause friction.

I think it's a discussion about marketing, really. Go to a Mc Donald's and order a Big Mac. It doesn't look like the pictures, but it tastes good. Maybe not the best sandwich ever in history, but no reason to go all "Falling Down" at it.
And it's a given, there will be hard criticism, and that i think is for many different reasons. Nostalgia, feeling of loss, frustration over high expectations, no possibility of having a toolset (and some other pampering we were accustomed with), all of that combined with the fact that it's a paid product. All of it, things that get healed by time as we have seen in previous installments.
Now let me get easy on the healing subject before, you know!

You get a like for two reasons:
First, this is a great thread topic and a great post! I love seeing positive posters around here.
Secondly, you made a "Falling Down" reference. Which is one of my all time favorite movies and holds up really well even today. I watched again about two months ago, with my husband watching it for the first time. It's still quite relevant. ![]()

Hey, I loved Bioware! Then the founders retired and EA turned it into a money machine, slow but certainly destroying the IPs as they ALWAYS do.
I stll remember Westwood. Most of you will be too young to understand.

Out of respect to the OP, could you please take the EA/BioWare bashing elsewhere? There is a huge amount of threads dedicated to trashing on the game/the company/the publisher willy-nilly. Yes, you're entitled to your opinion, but could you not do it here? Besides, trashing EA or BioWare or whatever is off-topic for this particular thread. I remember Westwood too, but I don't think that has a damned thing to do with the OP's positive attitude about BioWare. Which I share with him, to be honest.
Some of the fans aren't as upset as others, nor are ready to grab their torches and pitchforks. I've done quite a bit of posting about the bugs I ran into (like the one on the final fight last night. That pissed me off,) and I'm quite vocal about the things I truly dislike (a couple of companion quests getting flagged wrong/bugged out of existence, jammies at Skyhold, terrible hair, the Nvidia graphic card "shiny grass" problem that's actually on BioWare to fix; clunky-as-hell PC controls that felt like they were never tested with a KB/M.) I feel that they could have done better in some respects, but I could say that about a lot of games I've loved over the years.
I for one, loved the game despite some of the bugs and flaws, and I feel that this is one of BioWare's best yet. I beat it last night, and I am looking forward to more story down the road in the form of DLC. I've already got my second character going (took some restarts in the CC,) and if anything, this is going to be even better for me in many ways. Now that I not only know much more of what I'm doing, I'm going to be keeping my eyes and ears out for the foreshadowing that's stashed all of the place in the game.

I'll steal your text and make it my own. I'm 99% word for word in line with your reasoning as well.
The larger a game is, especially it seems when it has something it wants to say in it's story, the more people will take issue due to, I'm guessing here, emotional investment. There is more to scrutinize over. The point here is are you, the individual, the sort of person to let a game as large as this have the things you dislike outweigh the things you can enjoy. I have a laundry list of complaints with this game and none of them eclipse the things I do enjoy.

I didn't know that being a fan of a company and enjoying their product was some sort of "cause." Or that politely asking folks to stay on topic was a "cause" either.
Not everyone is so upset that they are raging continuously. Not everyone feels the need to continue the hatefest in every single thread that they post in. If you disagree, then please go find one of the countless threads dedicated to being angry at EA/BioWare/the Maker/whatever. Life's too short to be up in arms all the time, you know. ![]()
I'm glad I made you laugh though. Whatever works for you.
So, to everyone in the thread that is contributing to the intention behind it's creation, have you finished the game yet? Also, what was everyone's favorite parts?

Too many favorite parts to list here so I guess I'll break it down to the first 3 that come to men that are not necessarily my all time favorites. I'm sure I'll slap myself after I make this list.

I'm so glad i found the group of people that thinks like me in this forums, almost thought they didn't exist tbh!
I think this is totally the point here. We must not forget that the deepness of the discussions we are reading here in this forums alone is reason for us to praise BioWare despite the flaws their game may have. To think young people would raise voice to demand a more complex and difficult gameplay experience in their play time hobby?
I just read Allan Schumacher's post in Natashina's signature, and to think i would see such intellectually deep, wise, sensible and well communicated ideas in a video game's forum, or even outside social sciences academy really, is something to regain faith in human race.
Just take a look at their games, look at what they are creating here. Awesomeness plus awesomeness and clearly something to be protected by people who understand and appreciate it. (because even DAO fanboys do, rather they admit it or not)

We exist. We get a little drowned out sometimes, but we exist. When I'm feeling a little too overwhelmed by negativity, I stop by some of the fan threads. Dorian, and Iron Bull's especially Their enthusiasm is contagious, and it cheers me right up. Those threads are fun, but tend to get a little racy sometimes. ![]()
For the game, one of my favorites parts was well, this at Adamant Fortress:
One of my favorite parts of being a fan in general is the international fanbase for BioWare games. Taking a look at the "Show off your Inquisitor" thread if you need some cheering up. I've counted captions and interfaces from at least 5 different languages. And while I know that some of them are also in bug report/feedback threads discussing some of the problems they've had with the game, they are still having a lot of fun too.

True enough and w/in expectations, until that day Mc'D just can't cut it any more.
These polls can be very useful and yet difficult to capture good data, but I believe you can do it and likely better than politicians.
I honestly feel frostbite pulled the wool over everyone eyes, management and players alike- it really is next generation! I think that the disparity between visual presentation and game behavior is confusing to most.

BioWare is awesome. Hopefully EA will understand that and support them properly, because more is needed.
This game has many problems, all can be solved or and some should have been solved, before being released. It's always a time and resource constraint, but also a management problem: choosing "what to save and what to let die". We humans, will never agree on everything, but we can be open and sincere about what we do, can explain why we choose that way, and let people know what to expect - not led them astray, and then staying silent: that's ugly.
Some are upset because they are made to expect something else, and they pay with more than just money for that: with their time and beyond that, they get involved emotionally, only to find out too late that... it's all different. Sometimes it's a nice surprise, but mostly is a bitter wake up and things add up. That's because - lying - is the fundation of making money for most modern companies - that's our age, our world - and that hurts. It's not just about EA or BioWare only, but all of us. We all are guilty of this, we all must do our part to change it to better - one step at a time.

DRAGON AGE INQUISITION WOULD BE MADE FOR THE PC IN MIND.
And
DRAGON AGE INQUISITION WOULD GO BACK TO ITS ORIGINS ROOTS.
Regardless of whether or not you enjoy the game, those are clearly lies. Bioware lost the respect of many of their fans. Personally I think Inquisition sucks.

I wish I could say I loved Bioware. I certainly have loved many of their games. However, supporting a bad game will only lead to more bad games. Not to mention that Bioware said:
DRAGON AGE INQUISITION WOULD BE MADE FOR THE PC IN MIND.
And
DRAGON AGE INQUISITION WOULD GO BACK TO ITS ORIGINS ROOTS.
Regardless of whether or not you enjoy the game, those are clearly lies. Bioware lost the respect of many of their fans. Personally I think Inquisition sucks.
