Most games have a default male character, so when the opportunity arises I play a female one instead. Just, y'know, for variety. On balance that means I play both a good chunk of time.
Besides, the women usually look better.

Where is the sexism? I'm expressing why I don't play men. I'm not denigrating the decisions of men or expressing that men are less, just different. I'm saying that I don't think like a man or see things as a man because I'm a woman. It's fact, not sexism.
It is sexism and not fact.
Women do not think one way and men another. Thus you can't say 'oh, a man would never make this decision' because it depends on the person, not their sex.
I challenge you to give me one example of a personality trait every single woman on the planet has that every single man on the planet lack, and vice verse.
If there is no one trait that no men possess, then no moral decision can be thought of as impossible to be made by a man, and the same is of course the same for women.
There is no fact in saying 'Men and women would approach situations differently'. There is only 'Men and women TEND to approach some situations differently', as what determines their decision is not their gender, but their personality.
Thus a decision cannot be one that a male would not make. Nor can a decision be one a female would not make.
Biological sex does not define personality, and to believe otherwise while living in a world that proves it to be true is plain ignorance.
Geez, so many people here who think personality is solely defined by gender.

I always play both genders, though I do rarely play non-human characters.
It's genuinely frustrating to see that people such as that still exist.
I know a few female friends who've gotten legendaries for free from some dudes in Guild Wars 2 , yes it sucks that we guys get nothing for free lol
In DAO I played both genders and had a good time. In DA2 and DAI I have played males only so far. I enjoy the m/m options. Zevran was just....
Idk, I just enjoy playing a male protag more. But I will try to roll a woman on DAI to experience Cullen's romance. I can't say I will finish it until I hear the voice. I tried playing FemShep and I couldn't' stand the voice, same thing for FemHawke. I don't get it. I just don't like the female voices for the protags. in BW games. I don't have this issue with other games with female characters and protags. I'm hoping DAI is different, if not then I will stick to playing a man.
Where ever I look people always cling to their gender, and make it seem important. Sigh.
It is sexism and not fact.

It happens a lot. Before FFXI let you go invisible they would show which zone you were in. I had so many people stalk me across areas half way across the world from where they were. I think a good bit of that was my personality and I'm a relatively chatty person. The rest did it because I was a girl. I still have bags of stuff people gave me in XI, XIV, WoW, GW and the list goes on.
I dont doubt it lol if i were you i'd just enjoy whatever loot they send your way no harm done:-)
Of course personality isn't solely defined by gender, but gender as a social construct does inform our personalities, just as other social constructs do.
There is no one trait that all "Americans" or "europeans" have but reading a book about an American or European is still going to be easier for someone who identifies with one of those to find common ground over.
Similarly, the portrayal of a female protagonist versus a male one isn't going to have "one" trait that all women or all men share, it's the fact that there are a collection of traits which *more* women will identify with or *more* men will idenitfy with, in one or the other.
I almost always play as a woman because I usually don't get the chance in other games. But recently I've been thinking of branching out a bit. I eventually want to make a male Inquisitor for Dorian. The hard part is that I come to associate a single voice with the protagonist (Jennifer Hale will always be Shepard for me) and it's strange to hear a different one.
Out of curiosity, why do you only play one gender? I play both, always have (since BG in fact) and never thought twice about it. What motivates you to limit yourself to only one?
Identify as a Straight male I like to play as such i have in the past made female avatars but the novelty soon wears off now don't get me wrong am die hard tomb raider fan i have played them all but before Tomb raider metroid Samus was a girl Star fox was girl it dos not mater as long as the game is good but in RPG i like to play as Straight male
sex·ismˈsekˌsizəm/noun
prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex.
Now that we have a ddefinitionof sexism let me add that I am not just biologically a woman, I feel like a woman, I identify as a woman. To assume that my definition of myself as a woman is purely physical and that is my all encompassing reason for my gender identification is a patently false assumption on your part.
It's not simply personality and no one in psychology would say that gender identification play NO role in thought processes.
..they often do, but not always. Again, there is not one single trait or decision that every woman on the planet would make that every man would not. Thus sex does not define personality.
Also, what you're saying very much falls under 'prejudice' in the definition you copy and pasted.

I play as female characters most of the time. In ToR it depends on the romance options for said sex.
I.E: Male Commando cause Elara, Male Knight cause of Kira, Female Inquisitor cause I can't turn Ashara darkside, Male Jugg cause of Vette/Jaesa, Male Smuggler cause of Risha, Male Consular cause of Nadia, Male Operative cause of Ensign Temple.
In games that offer character creators like Dragon age/Elder Scrolls I always make females first for a few reasons
1: I'm far better at making good looking female characters because what I like in women's physical apperance. I cannot for the life of me make a handsome man idk why.
2: I like to look at the backside of a female for 18 hours as opposed to that of a male character, personal preference.
3: I'm a man, I don't really need to play a male character in some sad attempt to prove I'm straight or whatever dumb reasons I get harassed for in MMO forums/games for playing female characters. Personal Opinion.

Just know that you make your own definitions. To me your words ''feel like a woman'' are completely empty, because clearly we have completely different opinions on what a woman is, and many people have different definitions.
I actually don't only play as my own gender, but....
I'm a woman, and in a game like this where I'm immersing myself in the story and making nuanced choices, I prefer to play as a self-insert instead of a character at least once. My first unspoiled playthrough is always a woman who makes the choices I would, and subsequent female playthroughs also reflect parts of my personality. They sound more like me, they look more like me, and they're far more personal to me than the male ones. Finding out they can't do something I as the player wanted to do affects me far more, and their failures are more important to me as well.
I don't think of myself as incredibly feminine, and there are days when I feel like raging against anyone who describes me as a woman and not just a person. Still, the fact remains that for me, default is female, and male takes more effort. Some days I feel like putting in that effort, but some days I don't. Sometimes I want to be the hero, and I want to believe that people like me can be the hero. My male playthroughs are always someone else's story, but my female playthroughs are usually my own.
3: I'm a man, I don't really need to play a male character in some sad attempt to prove I'm straight
What.
Because the limp-wristed, flappy armed, buttswing twerk run of the females makes me want to dropkick nugs. Besides the obvious 'wtf is *that*?', there's an impression of physically ineffectualness that there's simply no reason for. I suppose it's part of the same thinking that has the resting stance of males as looking active, alert, and ready to move at a moments notice, while the females stand demurely with their arms against their sides and their feet together. Nowhere near as bad as Korean games, but still an noticable gap in 'heroic' portrayal and something that has always surprised me coming from Bioware.
I like women and as most other games you can only be a man it's nice to play as something different.
Plus Bioware always has better women VA's then they do men.
mmm I'd say because i'd to relate to my character which is why i always play as a male , some might find that boring but i just dont feel it when i play as a female , i tried it once and deleted the toon.
I think a better question is why play as something that doesnt represent you.
Since I am a woman, I would not be able to play a lot of games if I felt like this. For example, I can't play the Witcher, he's a dude, how do you expect me to relate to a dude? I'd never have played Splinter Cell, Infamous, Asssassin's Creed, Straw Dogs, and Uncharted. And many other games besides. First you play as something that doesn't represent you because you have to if you want to play. Then you play as something that doesn't represent you because it's nice to have the option to do that. At least, that's how I look at it.

What.
Yeah if you cut out half the sentence it looks bad. The rest of it states that is what I've experienced when people find out that I'm a male playing female characters in MMO's and other games.
It may not happen to you or others but it does happen.
