Recruiting Morrigan

This is my first playthough of DAO.  Need some advice.  Where I'm at:

I've just lit the tower, been overwealmed & rescued by Flemeth.  I'm standing in front of Flemeth's shack with Morrigan standing to the left.   After lots of blah-blah-blah, Morrigan says (more or less) "lets get going, shall we?"

Problem is, when I exit the area, she doesn't show up in my squad.  I went back to the shack and had all possible conversations -- hoping there would be a line I could choose like "join my team" (like I recruited Douglas) but I never saw it.

Some web research I saw said "Morrigan will join your party automatically after you finish the Ostagar quest".  Okay, that's done:

So how exactly can I get Morrigan to accompany the group?  Does she just show up later?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Maybe you safe is bugged? It's just as you've read.

After Flemeth suggests Morrigan to accompany you is the point when she joins you.

Try loading an older safefile and replay the Tower of Ishal maybe?

Depending on what origin he is, there is a scene prior to getting to Lothering where you encounter Dog (any origin except HN).

Morrigan is supposed to join your group automatically at the end of the scene at Flemeth's hut.  I'm unsure if there is even an option to say "no we don't want her with us" and have her actually NOT come with you.

Sounds like you have encountered a bug.  If you get to the first fight scene (either on the road to meet Dog or in Lothering with the cutpurses) and she's not present, you're bugged.

is there a save prior to talking to Flemeth you can go back to?

Have you fought the ogre yet? You actually encounter Morrigan twice. If you have yet to wake up in Flemeth's hut, then you need to play some more.

Well, he's said he lit the tower and got rescued so... yep, i guess he actually did.  ^_^

Did you get to Lothering?

After leaving Flemeth's shack I went directly back to Korcari Wilds to see if there were any survivors.   I expected Morrigan in my crew -- as some of you have said (but she's not there).  From there to Lothering.  After dealing with the bandits, I took a right turn, down the ramp and a cut-scene played...

Morrigan arguing with Alistar over what should be done -- but Morrigan completely invisible.    I thought a bug so I saved & launched the game.   No Morrigan.   I thoroughly explored Lothering and exiting the other end.

Morrigan should automatically join your party when you leave Korcari Wilds to Lothering - period

If she does not do so, you have got a bug.

What he said.

You could try loading an earlier save (from before being overwhelmed perhaps?). You probably will want to check the integrity of your game before doing anything tho'. That will lower the odds of the bug re-occurring.

Seems there has been quite a few people experiencing the invisible companion bug. What mods do you have installed? Anything with an added companion like Karma's or any others? Do you run extra dog slot or improved atmosphere?

You shouldn't be able to go back to the Korcari Wilds at that point.

When leaving the post-Ostagar Flemeth's Hut map (AKA 'Deep in the Wilds') the only two places that you should be able to access are Lothering and the initial party camp.

Isn't there a mod that allows you to go anywhere at any time though?

I appreciate all your thoughts and suggestions.   From Nexusmods, I've installed "Return to the Wilds" which explains why that was available after the dialogue with Flemeth.   After that, I explored another mod "Ancient Ruins" which spawned 2 other locations.   After that I went to Lothering.

I've tried some of the things some of you suggested.  BTY-no companions mod.   I reloaded & replayed the tower.   I also disabled all the mods (with Nexus Mod Manager).   Still -- same problem: no Morrigan & invisible Morrigan (at Lothering).   I could live with her being invisible in the group to command as any other of my squad but she's not there -- even when I press the SHOW ALL button.

I'm wondering how important is this character since I understand there are may more individuals in the game to recruit.  I'll keep going & perhaps we'll meet up later.

Seems like the same issue exists on the Origin version as my Steam version:  http://forum.bioware...ot-there-maybe/

There are more recruitable people, but Morrigan is very important in the endgame.

YES, you need Morrigan!!!! ^^Agree^^^

Disabling the mods may not be enough. You may have to remove them completely. Sometimes there are files in packages/core/data that can mess up other aspects of the game.

Thank you there luna1124.   I hadn't thought of that.  On my 2nd playthrough I'll see if I can totally trash everything and start all over.

BTY - I've noticed that everybody speaks with a British accent.   Was this crafted in England? -- or do the Brits just speak better English than Aussies, Kiwis, or Yanks?  Well, hot-dang thar Uncle Jed...

Okay folks -- I've arrived at the Circle Tower (Apprentice Quarters).  I've dialogued with Winne and am in a perpetual LOOP.   No matter what is said, or where I go, I keep coming back to the dialogue with her.

So I went to Youtube and played this sequence.   There, when all the talk was over, there was a splash screen of exactly WHO to recruit.  The player selected Winne who disabled the barrier and they went thru.

This is the 2nd occurrence of NOT being able to recruit anyone and strange things happening (maybe the darkspawn have hosed my game).   So I will take luna1124's advice NOW.   Since I'm royally STUCK, I have no other option than to totally trash everything (folders, saves, mods) -- delete local content & re-download.   Looks like the mods have hosed me up.

I'll keep you posted -- so someone else may not have to go thru this.

SUCCESS:  After talking with Flemeth, Morrigan was part of the crew walking with us to Lothering.

Okay, after taking luna1124's advice, I deleted all files & folders of the game & re-downloaed it.  I used NEXUS mods only for certain items -- but careful not to include additional quests & missions.

I've worked in the software industry for 3+ decades - mostly in database utilities (not in game software) -- however there are some similarities in concepts, especially when it comes to PRE-requisites and CO-requisites.   Apparently the extra missions hosed up some of the decision tables.

When I near the end of the game, I might download and give the extra missions a shot.

All – thanks for your thoughts & input.

Good news :D. You should be able to use additional quest mods one at a time (they may not be compatible with each other). In my opinion, play the game with only cosmetic mods the first time.

What? You broke my bug!

Sounds like some files were missing. If you have the Steam version you can replace missing files by verifying the "integrity of game cache".

Right click on DAO in your library/properties/local files/verify integrity of game cache. This might break some mods that remove files on purpose.

Mod authors usually give good instructions on how to install their mods and any conflicts with other mods that might exist. Sometimes you have to download their mod to find the read me in the file though.

If there are any conflicts, known or unknown, the mod installed last will win and overwrite any conflicting files.
