I've played each one of these installments in the franchise and can't help but wonder what BioWare has against adding different, if not more, weapons to their games. I'd like to suggestion just a few basic ones that you can just tweak in the game to add then instead of creating all new weapons, thus keeping you guys from doing a ton more work.
++Hand To Hand Combat++
How is there still no hand to hand combat? At the beginning of Inquisition my mage can threaten that he doesn't need a staff to be dangerous. Which is like a kitten trying to play tiger, useless. Why not allow Mages to go without a staff and to use just Gauntlets instead?
Playing as a Mage who is using Gauntlets as a weapon would pretty much just throw their basic attacks at the enemy. If the enemy gets close, the Mage would resort to a street fight type of stance, swinging wildly and frantically at the enemy, as they are not used to close quarters combat.
Playing as a Rogue who is using Gauntlets as a weapon would do martial arts for their melee attacks.
Playing as a Warrior who is using Gauntlets as a weapon would do more of an aggressive brawler type of fighting.
++Spears And Staves++
I can understand Mages not using Two Handed Swords, but I don't see why there are ZERO spears in the game for Warriors, or three section staff for rogues. Nor do I understand why a Mage will not engage in Melee Combat in this installment, but did in Dragon Age 2. If the Staff is a Mage's primary weapon, I would figure they would know how to use it at close as well.
Warriors should be able to have spears.
Rogues should have the three section staff.
Mages already have a staff.
++Rift Weapons++
This one is would be a weapon that gets added instead of tweaking. The Knight Enchanter is able to summon a sword from the Vail which is what made this idea pop up in my head.
Why not have Vail/Rift weapons? They would start out green, but then change color based upon either your choices, or how your companion views your actions. Blue for loyal, Red for distrustful. Players would have to complete a quest to obtain these weapons, one quest per companion. The weapons then level up with your characters, but are weaker than crafting one, to create balance.
I just figured this would be a great add on since the whole game is based around rifts and the Vail.
Hope you enjoyed the reading!
