How do you guys stand doing multiple playthroughs with the banter the way it is? Or are you not affected by the bug? (Regular banter every 20 minutes or so)

Agreed. I love this game
First playthrough ended at Level 23 after 214 hrs 55 min. The look on Sera's face after the final battle made everything worthwhile! This has joined the select group of games I am likely to play through several times. I might even break the habit of a lifetime and try multiplayer.
The team at BioWare have produced an outstanding game. I hope they had a great holiday - now back to work, DLC and DA4 don't create themselves you know!
Bug?
My companions just won't shut the hell up.
You guys don't know how lucky you are.

Agreed. The lack of party conversation (I realise it's a bug or whatever, it's the only one that's affecting my experience) is my one really big criticism of DAI. Sure I have quibbles elsewhere, but I love this game. I'm just sad I can't love it more because my companions are silent nearly all the time. Except in the Emerald Graves, for some reason - both music and banter are firing a lot more frequently which is why I'm trying to spend as much time there as possible.

I got to level 25 and completed the playthrough in 120 hours. Did everything I could in the game. It's crazy how you can have a 200 hour playthrough when I thought I took my sweet time with the game.
I've been thinking the same thing. Got to level 25 in my first playthrough in 90 or so hours. Took my time with everything. Loved exploring every area in detail. Taking to all the NPC's I could. Of course conversations with all of my companions and advisors. Didn't complete every single thing, but I'd say that I did most. Completely cleared three or four areas. Found all 10 dragons and killed 8.
I guess that on higher difficulty levels, people die more often and do the same battles over and over? (I play on normal difficulty). Or perhaps some spend hours reading codex entries?
Though I was hoping for 150+ hours, I'm not sure how I could stretch it out that long without just wasting time.

I've been playing for 140 hours now and haven't been to Emprise or the Wastes yet. Or killed most of the dragons. Or finished the main story. I am playing on hard, though ![]()

Hey! I had this problem too but with some digging and testing I found a temporary solution.
If you exit the war room without traveling somewhere then (later) open up the world map and travel, there is a high probability that you will encounter this bug.
If you go to the war room and just travel from there, you should experience banter pretty readily. Try it.
You'll know you're golden if you hear ambient music or have a companion say a comment about the area ( if you're lucky a banter proc ).
It's important to note that banter procs are rather erratic since they are based on probabilistic systems. I once went 20minutes without a single word uttered by anyone then had 3 banter procs within 5 minutes.
Also, random environmental comments do count as "banter" procs as well.
It's worked so far for me. Then again I haven't experienced most people's problems with the game so maybe it's just a system issue.
I'm 90 hours into my first playthrough, about to go on the last (second to last?) mission and I'm just...ahhhh. I've been procrastinating, doing this and that, but it is Time. For a whole year of my life it felt like I'd never play this game, and here I am. I don't want it to end, the consequences will never be the same!
