Rather than lower the difficulty, why not try to figure out the game's mechanics?

Keep your tank's armor up to date. You can get a set from the western fort in Hinterlands that will last until you can craft a t3 set after getting to Skyhold. Tanks are nearly invincible on their own in this game so if it's doing its job the rest of your party should be taking little to no damage.

Go for high damage abilities like Full Draw and Fire Mine early on. CC is moot when everything is dead in seconds.

Any mage in your group should get barrier.

Focus down ranged targets first. A well placed Long Shot with the Archer Lance upgrade will 1 shot multiple wraiths.

You'll find more info in the combat & strategy forums. This is not a difficult game.

Simple tips when caught in a tight spot (if you're playing mage or rogue especially), assuming your mage has barrier and your warrior has a decent guard generating ability:

1. The AI is mostly stupid. And Dragons are straightforward.

Set ranged to follow you. Set your character to follow controlled character. Set barrier/raise as favorited abilities, and guard generation as fav for warriors. Switch to your warrior and go full agro/damage dealer (at least against dragons) while the big thing's alone, because the AI is much better about keeping barrier up than it is about damage abilities. If you have melee characters, set them to defend you and/or the protective mage if necessary and move close to your target or they'll stand around looking pretty. Switch to rogues or whoever's got the best dps to kill called trash mobs quickly, and highest ranged dps when flying. Remember demons and dragons have different elemental immunities, so your mages' basic attacks or matching spells may be useless against a certain enemy. I play with everybody set to save 10% mana/stamina, use potion at 20% health, and save 0 potions, but that's just me. Again, the AI isn't that great outside of staying in range on defend. Sometimes you have to just babysit it and switch around to whichever role isn't getting it done.

2. Demon fights.

Terrain obstacles and rift tears are your friends. Ice demons are the worst enemy in the game from my experience, especially if there's three at a time. Hit them with a fire spell to stop their death ray. Firewall's a big help (to stick it under them for roasted ice baddie). Hide behind obstacles if needed or run run til the beam ends. Any way you can keep your main character's aggro down compared to your companions is good, so you can focus on interacting with the rift as often as possible. Levels demons and knocks out their barriers. Also helps give you time to go manually revive allies when necessary. Follow the red skulls on the minimap. :P The mana missile thing spell (forget the name, electric spell tree) is anti-barrier/guard. Ice stops fire demons, fire and ice control pride demons. Also, if you've got the focus ability from the last Haven battle, that acts just like surging a rift.

3. Sorry for the bad news. Preparation.

Like others have said, Inquisition perks are helpful. Upgrading the regen potion and the healing grenade is helpful. So are the others really. Heal bonus equip items are helpful. You should rarely need the extra healing. If all else fails, go to the nearest save and fast travel to the closest camp. Rest at a tent. Backtrack to start the fight over. And yeah, occasionally you might have to run away to fight another day. But I only had to once, so it's rare... Assuming you don't want to drop the difficulty for a fight, like I didn't. Oh, and if it's not a boss fight, you're allowed to run away if you can manage to survive it. Use the disengage command to run faster. edit: Be aware that demon rift wave fights reset if you do this.

4. Missable schematics and codex entries..

..will show up in Val R. in the little back room cubby hole store off to the right past the cafe and around the bend, as you progress through the game. :) Thank you devs very much for that little lifesaver.
