I for one welcome my Nug Overlord ending. That final "SQUEEEeeeeeee" and cut to black, roll credits sent shivers down my spine. Best ending, ever. Can't wait to find out what happens next.

It has nothing to do with sequels and limits by storytelling. The simple truth is that the narrative of this game was adversely affected by the openish world. They sacrificed resources that would have been used for choices and different outcomes to storylines in favour of making huge zones with fetch quests as the meat of the content.
If you continue to wish for a larger world Bioware will give it to us at the cost of the story. DA:I is proof of that, it is quite possibly the weakest story I've experienced in a Bioware game. Hell, the class stories in Star Wars the Old republic mmo were more enthralling than the main quest in this game.

I felt more attached to my Jedi Shadow than I do my Inquisitor.

It has nothing to do with sequels and limits by storytelling.
Ofcourse it does, the more variables created in each game, the more variables are required for each sequel, unless they pull another ME2-ending and make the "final decision" mean almost nothing.
I'm honestly glad they're stepping away from large world altering decisions, and focus more on smaller personal variables. First of all, they matter more for the character, and actually add depth to the character. Second, it means there's less chance for the writers to get pushed into some corner to compensate for conflicting extremes that take tools out of their hands. All the genocide choices in ME3 were particularly bad, and basically killed any ME sequel unless the writers pull certain tricks. The same applies to DA:I. Allowing a full "Cory wins" ending ruins the setting as a whole to such a degree, that it'll be extremely expensive to ever write and create a sequel that merges into a new world state.
And no, canon endings are not an option. Don't even think about it. Or, if you do want to think about it, you'd have to admit that canon storylines only make your decisions mean nothing at all, in which case you might as well play more simpleton linear "RPGs" that don't offer decisions at all (which actually invalidates them as RPGs).

In the prima game guide at the intro Mike says they wanted to move to activity driven gameplay rather than major story moments leading directly to more story moments

Earn Your Bad Ending: You really want the worst ending? Simple: simply alienate every one of your associates and do absolutely no sidequests. Easy, right?

Besides 'die before you close the breach' and 'get kicked out of the winter palace' special ending texts, I also got one from dying in Envy's fade/dream world (I ran in to the traps >.>) that told me how Envy took my place and bwhahaha'd all over the world. Quite rude of him.
But, no, I think the supposed ending where you alienate everyone and suck and Corphy just wins doesn't exist. Bummer.

I've heard that there is supposed to be an ending where the Elder One wins and destroys Thedas. I'm wondering if this ending is still in the game or if it was cut. If it is in the game, what conditions need to be met to get it.
There is an alternate reality where the deamons win. If you die there, and dont reload the game then the asumption is that it the demons will stay won.

"Lead them or Fall"
Lol reminds me of that one Casey Hudson quote before ME3's release where he was like "its not in any way like traditional game endings where you can say how many endings there are or whether you got ending A, B or C".
Well...though the dev or writer later came out and justified what they said they did say there would be 40 major endings or 40 major variations
http://forum.bioware...sition-preview/
5. Endings:
- "Bioware is promising a staggering 40 possible endings for the game, dependent not only on choices made in character generation but by actions taken throughout the storyline. [Mark] Darrah stresses, however, that the endings will all be meaningfully different from one another. You won't find 40 endings with only slight degrees of variation between them."
He then clarified what he meant:
This shows his update:

Hey guys,
I just want to clarify the endings in Dragon Age: Inquisition
Dragon Age Inquisition's endings variations come in three levels
1. Minor variations based upon choices you make in the game or previous games. There are HUNDREDS of these variations.
2. Major variations based upon larger decisions in the game. There are about forty of these
3. Completely unique endings. There are a small number of these
From what I have read about the game it seems there is one unique ending (cory dies & you win) with a number of different world states. Please correct me if I am wrong. But as of yet, there is no 'Bad Guy win' Ending. Which is kinda sad...
At least they didn't lie as bad as they did with ME3...and they clarified a dev promise before the game even went live. I have to say. Bravo DA team. Bravo Bioware. This is a step in a great direction and has peaked my interest further into the company.

Lets see if you die in Eny's dream world envy replaces you and Corypheus wins, If you get kicked out of the winter palace the empire's leadership gets decapitated and he wins because nobody has a large enough force to stop him including you and of course if you die before stabilizing the breach thadas and the fade effectively merge and only the demons or more likely just nightmare wins.

As I recall Origins had the same ending, you win regardless, the whole game drives towards..... archdemon a goner.. Go figure. Now Cory may or may not be dead. I like the fact that I am left on a cliffhanger. That in itself makes the whole story more powerful.
People say there is no story yet the whole game is seeing what havoc this 'wotsit' dishes out. Oh, that is the same as Origins too I just realised.

Origins had a weak main story too imo. The only really good main story part in DA:I was after the epilogue...
