Yea dude , literally could not think of a possible way to beat them , i mean one of them took on a whole fleet and gave them a run for their money how can we possibly stand a chance against an army of them? they were the scariest villains i have ever come accross in a game ..... then the star child happened

 Honestly, I watched enough stargate to know EXACTLY where that was going, lol.

Jack O'Neill more or less does the same thing against Anubis. Plugged his mind into Asgard tech, which would "kill" him (no one ever dies for long in SG-1), and in exchange, he finds information leading him to tech that can destroy him, a being of a higher existence, and his entire vastly superior alien fleet. Actually, the humans didn't even have a fleet, lol.

Thank you Stargate. Who says tv's good for nothing?

Anyway, I knew whatever defeated them would be bullshit. I just didn't expect it to come along with this lazy ass explanation that pretty much screamed that Bioware bit off more than they could chew originally with this concept.

Also, I think the Necromorphs would give the reapers a run for their money for that spot. Both are... well.

lol Yea thats always the issue when a Villain is built up to be invincible, i've heard rumors however that they had much better plans for the reapers but they were forced to scrap them due to time constraint, pretty sad if true.

I can believe it. You can see that same thing here in DA I.

Voices are good, but Sovereign is much better than the Elder One.

I feel like the Elder One was supposed to remain unknown for much more of the story, but when they realized they could only afford 4 quests for Main Story... He was just unknown for 1 quest lmao

Sovereign! That first encounter. That "oh s**t what have I gotten myself into" moment. Although the first time I confronted the Ogre at the top of the tower in DA:O probably came in a close second.

After all, I'd met Cory before, I knew he could be had.

Harbinger's was good as well.

ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL!!

This is cool too.

Why are so many of these videos with femshep? Hard to find male. Nothing against the voice actress. She delivers rather well, but I think John Shep sells renegade Shepard much better. More natural. Anyway, yea. Harbinger was cool. More attitude.

Sovereign hands down!

As the inquisitor said to Hawke "You're lucky you had just a city to look after, I have half of Thedas. Shephard would reply "Try having the whole Galaxy and come back to me!"

Mass Effect was just epic as a whole and want DA to be too. Corypheus assassinating Celene by influencing key people in the Orlesian nobility and playing "The Game" is laughable. He's a Darkspawn Magister who could just lay wasted to the Winter Palace himself.

I hate The Game. Every time I hear it, it just sounds so corny, self important and ****** stupid.

And all I see is Triple H somewhere yelling "IT'S TIME TO PLAY THE GAAAAAMME!"

Eh, I don't think either is particularly compelling. Corypheus is a stock magic villain for a stock magic plot, Sovereign is a poor imitation of a Shivan with a tendency to talk too much.

The Arishok is BioWare's best. He had a view of how the world should be, and was prepared to fight for it, you could disagree and fight to protect your world view, or you could agree but still be pulled into conflict by circumstance.

While I thought that Corypheus was compelling, Arishok was soooo much better, so I'll agree with you there.

A villain like Sovereign yeah. I would have been happy if Cory served the creature.

Sovereign's arc stands out as one of the highest points in the series. This dude kept us on our toes, was a mastermind, and the threat of the Reapers was never something to be questioned, right down to the brilliant final showdown in the Citadel. I think what they eventually did with the Reapers- especially noting the change in writers - shouldn't be what we judge Sovereign as a character by, since he nolonger existed at that time and we're metagaming. But noooo, they had to go all bootleg Babylon 5 or TTGL with the Reapers.

Corypheus is presented very well in the DLC, and he starts off as this uber-badass during Haven and that one arc involving a certain form of magic. Then he loses repeatedly and forces Quizzy's hand with a wimp out move. I kept hearing "Elder One" and thought of Voldemort, except Voldemort actually lived up to his reputation. The most interesting details were things you only learned if you picked up the war table operations involving him. He was such a comic book villain.

Honestly Harbinger and Sovereign should have swapped places. Sovereign would have made more sense as the Reaper leader. Hell his name implies royalty. And Harbinger would have made a better introduction to the Reapers.

Yeah I always do the Warlord mission, and it's so much better with femShep, when she calls him a piece of crap and finishes them all off.

Great so now Corypheus is going to try and become the new catalyst and take control of the reapers.  It all makes sense now.  The citadel is the golden city.  The breach even does sort of look like the beam at the end of ME 3.  No wonder femquisitor was on the Normandy.

Im not sure why Sovereign is so popular, apart from some cool lines he was a massive failure, as unpopular as Harbinger was at least he had some successes like kidnapping so many humans pretty easily & killing Shepard before the space magic revived them

I don't know if I can call almost wiping out the Citadel fleet and (possibly) eliminating the council a failure. Dude fucked up a lot of ships and did tons of damage.

I mean, he did fail, but he wasn't a complete failure. Even though the reaper invasion's defeat is pretty much his fault and Harbinger corrected his failure (for a time) by ****** you up and blasting your ass into the face of a planet and making you toothpaste.

Sovereign.

The moment he starts talking, you instantly feel a sense of power in him, and fear in yourself. It's hard to say what other villain really did that.

Just in Case: I'm going to say Spoiler Alert.

Sovereign and Corypheus are both aiming at the same type of villain, but are on the opposite ends of the quality spectrum.

Corypheus had 1 good line, mostly just boring crap. Sovereign didn't say a single thing that I forgot quickly.

Sovereigns voice is also intimidating and mysterious, Corypheus just sounds like a normal guy (and yes, for sympathetic villains like Saren or Loghain, any voice will do (although Saren's voice has got a very intimidating growl to it), but for evil ones they need to be memorable.)

But the conditions above are the difference between a good villain and a great villain. The difference between a bad and good villain is much easier for me, it's simply how much of a threat they present themselves as, namely, how many times they beat you vs. you beat them.

Sovereign succeeded at getting the beacons, finding the cipher, finding the Mu Relay, finding the conduit and killing a crew member. All Shepard did was clean up the mess he left behind. Closest you had to a win (before the climax) was taking Saren out of the specters, but that didn't hinder their plan in any way, so it's a shallow victory at best.

Corypheus on the other hand failed to acquire the anchor, failed to stop his foe from getting it, failed to get it back or damage the inquisition at Haven, failed to get the orlaisian court on his side, failed to control the grey wardens, failed to get to the well of sorrows and at the end failed to even survive. The closest he came to a success was haven, but we retrieved all we had lost 10 minutes later, and he lost an entire army.

Also when it comes down to it, Corypheus didn't kill the inquisitor because he was too useless to, Sovereign never killed Shepard simply because never got the chance (again before the climax), and since Shepard never did anything that got in the way, why would Sovereign go out of it's way to kill this random guy. "You are not Saren", doesn't know who you are, doesn't care.

Sorry if this seemed a bit ranty but we are literally comparing my favorite villain in gaming to my second least favorite.
