Sovereign: no emotion, no mercy, "resistance is futile," bad to the bone, kill you all, scary.

Cory?  I wanna be a god, I wanna go to the black city and be a god, and you stole my toy! WAAAAAH!

Sovereign was a incompetent villain, im not sure why its so popular tbh, having a cool voice doesn't make you good

In and of itself, Sovereign is a more powerful enemy. Unfortunately, thanks to some major plot points that came later, Sovereign turned out to be a big stupid cuttlefish.

Once you find out what Sovereign and Harbingers actual so-called plan is they lose all their intimidation and you begin to realize the only reason they were cool in the first place was their spooky voices, Lovecraftian appearance and mysteriousness.

Corypheus at least had a plan and motive that made some level of sense.

I loved Sovereign because of how it saw humanity (And other sentient races). A truly god like approach. You are nothing, your threats are empty, we will harvest you. Dismissing everything as meaningless. Though it had the means to act all god like too.

Al Gore's rants about the ManBearPig were more coherent than the Reaper's motives.

He was super cereal.

Gonna have to say Sovereign takes this one, later games might have demystified the Reapers and their motives but as of ME1 Sovereign's reveal was a serious game changer. Also Sovereign did a lot better for the story climax.

Cory was pretty good all in all, real plans and motivations that could destroy the world. Sadly Cory's high point was also his introduction. Getting thrashed by him at Haven was pretty damn awesome for setting up an intimidating/powerful villain. Sadly it all goes downhill from there and he never really feels terribly threatening after that.

That speech of Sovereign's was definitely the high point of the game and it was the effect on me that was most significant because I was both chilled at the absolute distain he had for us poor organic creatures and yet fired up to want to take the bastard down.   I remember thinking "I am so going to enjoy proving you wrong."      It also probably had greater impact than Cory's speech because I hadn't seen any trailers of the game.    The shock and awe element to Cory was when he turned up at Haven.   Unfortunately all the end scenes had been revealed via the numerous trailers, including the sudden intervention of the dragon, so the impact was somewhat muted.

It is also a pity that we didn't have the opportunity to give out orders and appoint group leaders, like in DAO or ME2.    We are told subsequently that the people on the ground were fighting for their lives against a horde of demons but we never even saw it (apart from the brief cut scene before the Inquisitor arrives on the scene).    That might have given more weight to Cory's assertion of godhood.

Also, did you notice, it never was "raining demons out here".  Do you suppose the assault was originally meant to be on Skyhold, with a combined force of dragon and demons literally descending on the place but somehow it got watered down?

I prefer Corypheus just because of In Your Heat Shall Burn.

Neither were great, but Sovereign is far superior simply because his defeat was satisfying instead of utterly vapid.

I think that's what happens when you create a mysterious over powered villain and then say "eh, we will figure out the back story and motivations later when we make the third game."

The title almost makes it sound like DA:I is a villain.

Why should we pick among those 2? Considering all DA and ME games, the best villain is, by far, The Illusive man.

Sovereign, by a county mile. I'd even go so far as to say the Archdemon was a better antagonist than Cory was. There was simply no menace to Corypheus; after his first appearance in Haven, all his other appearances were composed solely of monologuing and losing. The fact that we had beaten him once before in DAII certainly didn't bolster his menace either.
