I dont really care if they are mistaken about their past, the thing is, elves dont have very many options. Youre either a city elf where  you are a slave, a circle mage or dalish or an apostate on the run. Elves arent large enough in numbers to do all these things people here keep talking about. Rebuild a nation? with what? with what numbers and and where exactly? Even if all the dalish clans came together there wouldnt be enough of them to magically recreate this nation, that will just magically be accepted by the same humans who have been hounding, killing and enslaving their people for ages  . Are the dalish perfect? no, the way they handle their little mage problem is very shitty, but they are still elves trying to retain a certain sense of pride for their race, misguided as it is. Fiona is one of my favorite characters, but it irritates me how complacent she is in giving up things that are rightfully hers because of her race.

I choose to remember them before The Masked One Dimensional Villains and before Chantquisition. When they were a proud and justifiably vigilant race.

I have accepted that Bioware doesn't think that they're worth the markings on their faces. And I have come to terms with the possibility that they aren't done sh*tting on them yet.

its a shame, isnt it? I dont understand why they want to ridicule the elves as much as they have.

hard to say. Though I imagine if there was a new arlathan, the ones who would be anti-human the most would not the dalish, but the city elves. The reason for this is that while the dalish have stories to why they hate humans, most do not encounter them or have a personal reason to hate the humans. City elves do, the whole city elf origin gives you plenty of reasons to hate humans. It is more personal to the city elves, for how many know a sister or daughter that suffered at a noble similar to Vaughn? How many have been abused and physically mistreated? if the elves come from tevinter, then they would very likely be slaves who suffered the worst of the worst, seeing their freinds and family be used as offerings for blood magic rituals.

All of this makes me think the city elves might be one of the bigger agitators against humanity in a new Arlathan.

That's a good point actually. I wonder if the Dalish would feel enough kinship with them to listen if they called for aggression. I doubt it personally.

I kind of have a hard time believing that the city elves would coexist well at all with their Dalish counterparts in a new nation. I mean, maybe after a while. They do take in city elves. But it couldn't be in big numbers suddenly.

And this is assuming the humans would even let them go.

I would think they would get along well enough if the city elves accepted dalish tradition and religion. But in saying that I'm pretty sure city else outnumber the dalish, and may not be willing to change(although they do seen to worship them).

Generally speaking, I'm Dalish-neutral.  I do, however, find them considerably more interesting now that the 'eternal victim' has been washed off.  I found the single clan we can interact with a little boring, but there were some bright spots.  The polite hunter who tells you something to the effect that he thinks his people cling too tightly to old hatred, or the Keeper who gives the humans some apology venison are both rather unusual, if understated.  Given how the game could have been called "Dragon Age: Elf Lore Dump", and given that we go to the Dales of all places,  I honestly expected more of a presence from modern elves than a single group of 5-7 people who want you to get herbs and find a lost halla so you can recruit an Agent.  To me, such limited exposure was pretty disappointing.

I suspect those of you invested in the Dalish will get to see them shine and start taking real strides forward (even unrealistic ones) when some of them ally with the rest of Thedas to stop Solas from bringing the elven gods back from wherever it was he locked them in the Fade.  Maybe they'll even get a small plot of land to call their own again, though it seems unlikely to last.  This is Dragon Age, after all.

Edit:  I sincerely doubt a New Arlathan will ever happen.  As for those with the tired old argument that the elves have no where in Thedas to settle, you're right.  However, given that the Dalish carry everything they own with them, there's nothing actually keeping them in Thedas.  Of all the cultures, they're the ones in the best position to find out what really lies beyond the north-western border.  We know there are places out there, and if they can't make any headway where they are, it behooves them to find out what those other places are like.

Perhaps because they remind us too much of ourselves. Seeing humanity reflected on a rival race is sure to be unsettling, especially when they're a danger to you.

Like when people assume alien life would destroy us and take our world. We fear something doing exactly what we've done countless times.

Ah yes, the numbers. I'm positive that due to this, humans would never just let disgruntled alienage elves mass exodus to some new elven nation.

Not really the Dalish's problem though. Would serve as a nice distraction while they're trying to get off their feet.

I think what people seem to loose sight of is that they're not one people. They're scattered clans with minimal contact. Each do things differently and each interpret things differently. Which we've had handily demonstrated to us by the differences between the clan in The Masked Empire and ones like Lavellan Clan. Hell, Keeper Hawen's clan was pretty alright too unless you went out of your way to antagonize them. (Which, I'm sure people would twist to being an example of them being awful somehow.) But for some reason people only seem to notice the bad. Which admittedly we have been kind of bombarded with recently.

Off topic, your userpic never fails to make me smile.  And if they ever need an actor for live action DA:I Loghain, they need look no further.

people hate others just cause their ethnic group is varied in opinion. We've only seen group doing "bad" things for story purposes. Im sure most clans are generally "lax and docile" we just dont see them due to story

Iron Bull made an appropriate comment to this when he said he could hate a nation but couldn't bother with the people individually, lol. I don't hate the Dales, but I feel similarly, in that I don't assume all Dalish are the same, but my outlook on them does apply to them as a whole. It seems from what we've seen so far that while they're all different, they share enough similar characteristics to be judged more or less the same.

And it's just human nature to want to group and put things and people in categories.

actually im more interested in the strides Briala, and my own elf inq will do.The thing is i dont really champion the dalish because they are dalish or their lore in regards to gods. I admire their resistance to being oppressed and being proud of their race, refusing to accept slavery. The irony is that in inq we find out that their gods *are* real. It also explains why Solas shows such contempt for them considering how wrongfully he is represented.

If there is a next game then maybe dealing with the Elf situation will be one of the main focus? This game already dealt with Mages, so I wouldn't be too surprised the next one will deal with giving the an elven nation.

I'm not expecting much from Briala, ever, or the Inquisition on this matter.  Too many different outcomes for it to carry forward in any meaningful way.

Two elf-centric games in a row seems pretty unlikely, but perhaps.  I still doubt BioWare will pull an elven nation out of their hat without some necessary buildup first.

I hope it's not something left to the player. I doubt it would be but if it is, as a human, I'm not sure I could support it unfortunately... I personally would root for it, but in character, who knows. Depends on the location and what setting.

Oh, I highly expect their to be friction, it makes for much better story telling if there is friction between the city elves and the now settled dalish;and i suspect at least a couple of clans might refuse to join prefering to stay nomads. There are countless internal issues that a new Arlathan would face. That is a good thing. why? because stories need conflict.

For instance religion: would they follow the elven gods or the Maker

Hell I even came up with the idea that Arlathan could have its own chantry seperate from both the Imperial and Orlaisian chantries that the rest of thedas follow. this chantry would state that Andraste was elven, not human, that Sharitan was her husband, not Maferath; though he was a trusted friend till he betrayed her. Andraste would be regarded as the perfect and ideal keeper, defending her people and uniting them together against an oppressive force. thus a mage but also one blessed by the Maker.

Or they could follow the elven gods, and temples to them could adorn the cities of this new Arlathan. Maybe even Fen'harel would be regarded in a much better light, and female Lavellan regarded as his mate/consort. I prefer this if only because as a polytheist, I think having a polytheistic kingdom would be interesting as it would be different in thedas.

as for Tevinter, since I am imagining that this kingdom arrises out of the Arlathan forest and thus they have to fight Tevinter. I do not expect for them to let the elves to go freely. Of course Tevinter is gearing up for a renewed war with the Qunari and if the elves wished they could create much hardship for the Imperium if there was a popular movement to go against the empire. a war on two fronts is tricky to fight against.

Which is why this would have to be a popular movement lead by charismatic leaders, elves that can unite the dalish and enough city elves to make such an ambition possible. The dalish do meet at least once per decade to discuss things, a perfect time for such people to try and rally the people behind them.  The city elves do not, but they could just as easily create a rebel leader from the slaves of tevinter or the alianages who has fire in his/her eyes.

Sure it's good for story, but right now the Dalish need things to go as smoothly as possible, lol. They've taken so much **** already that I doubt people would get on them too much if their little elven utopia went smoothly after the hardship of establishment, at least for a little while initially.

I sincerely doubt that, once Solas does whatever he has planned, anyone is going to consider the Elven gods as beings worthy of veneration or worship.  I suspect the elves are in for a serious shock concerning the true nature of their 'gods', and what they really were/did to the general elves of old Arlathan.
