The Forbidden Oasis looks amazing and was fairly easy to navigate (imo) But, hey you know opinions stated as fact topics... I'm more interested in learning what led up to the tantrum. You mentioned shards so I'm guessing shards ^_^

Do tell...

So if the oasis is just for those shards ya find...and ya need them all to open any door........why would anyone go there early at lvl 8 or 9 ?? Is the gear good for those lvl ?? cose.....I remember seeing a Giant down there......and can ya get all the shard that early ?

You don't need them all to start out, some doors only require a few shards, but the more doors you open the more shards are required to open them. It's a place to travel back to when you've collected a handful of shards. The giant, at least for me, was lvl 9 or 10 so no harm in poking around at that level.

Really I hate the map. I can get around it, I just don't want to. Shard rewards aren't worth doing really and you do not need anything from this map to finish the game. -- including the XP from it. It really is an optional map so skip it.

I find falling off ledges to be the easiest way to get around.

If I should find a complain about the Oasis is that once you have collected all the shards that you need to unlock everything you'll be already lvl 22-23, therefore the reward that you get is really worthless at that point of the game.

Visually its nice.

Navigation of it tho, is horrible. So much jumping and platforming needed to get things, uurgh.

Glad its optional. Im doing it once just to see it and for the achievement (assume theres one). Then im hoping for a mod that auto picks up all shards when you use those skull devices if i ever do it again.

I do that in Skyhold all the time. Also, in the Hissing Wastes... and a great many other places. Pretty much anyplace, really. I figure the folks in the tavern at Skyhold jump the first few times, but eventually start reassuring shocked visitors with "You get used to it, after a while."

The first playthrough, I kinda skipped the Oasis. I went there, but I was just trying to finish the game at that point. This time, I'm taking my time, doing a completionist run, so I'll get there. I just don't want to go too early because I did that with the Western Approach and the Fallow Mire and now I don't get experience points there anymore. But at least this time, I saved Emprise du Lion and the Emerald Graves for after Here Lies the Abyss, so I'll get a chance to catch up there.

Despite the navigation headaches, Emprise du Lion is my favorite map. I love the snowy scenery. The Hinterlands... pretty, but mundane. Exalted Plains are ugly, but they're kinda supposed to be, so it makes sense. :)

The permanent elemental resistance and various elemental resistance belts are what make the temple and collecting the shards worth it.

Not my favorite map either but I quickly figured out that if you place a blue marker on the cave on your map, and head straight in that direction through the pools ... and take the first cave you run into directly with the marker in front on your mini map ... that's the tunnel you need to get to the temple.

Not nearly as bad once you have that part down at least.

I feel some of the OP's pain, it is easy enough to set waypoints on POIs but can be very hard navigating to some of them. Shards in particular are in some pretty douche places that aren't immediately apparent on how you can get to them.

It was the Hissing Wastes that just about put me over the edge. Think I developed a tick there. Yup. There it is.

I haven't gone there since the first time. It looks pretty but I don't do puzzle maze layouts. It's a wasted map for me. I never pick up one shard and I never get it since that's the only reason to go.

My current Inquisitor doesn't care about shards. She told me.

I love the Forbidden Oasis. My secondary character just unlocked the area and I spent several hours there, finding loads of secret bits that I missed on my first character. Navigation puzzles, beautiful scenery and destructible environments are all great in my book.

I'm quite fond of Forbidden Oasis. Its relative complexity compared to other areas creates variety. I don't want all the areas in the game to be as easily navigable as a treadmill.

You are right to loathe it. The arrogant people are deluded.

It is difficult to determine the correct path without trial and error; the map is useless and the geography of the land blocks your sight. You must routinely fail to progress. It is bad work.

I absolutely loathe this place.  Please tell me that I can skip it entirely?

Sure, you can skip it.

Sad it was too hard for you.

I found it an interestingly designed multi-levelled location, I enjoyed it.

Forbidden Oasis was pretty and interesting but I don't really like 3D mazes or jumping puzzles. The southern camp is the highest point on the map just about, so I eventually took to fast traveling there and running east or west around the periphery until I was above a shard I wanted and then just falling on it. Then back to camp to heal up and start over.

The Hissing Wastes are a nice, soothing antidote -- no climbing and no stopping every 4 feet to pick something up, just darkness, wind and running.

I do love the variety in maps. Hissing Wastes and Emerald Graves were two of my favorites, but they all had character and looked gorgeous.
