I got one ex into DA:O, dunno if she's playing this, seems to spend most of her time on league of legends these days. Another ex is playing the wolf among us at the moment, couldn't get her into dragon age, did manage to get her into Civ, however. Anyway, ladies feel free to add me on AOL

The use of the word "females" instead of "women" or "girls" is highly unnerving.

While the OP's post is odd, probably a troll, I dont understand why using "female" is unnerving.  Maybe its my military background where it was ingrained in our brains to be the proper term, along with terms like latrine and chow, so to me it seems normal.

Myself, I find it weird just because "female" is an adjective so far as I understand it. And "women" is the noun. But, I grew up in the odd era people my age suffer from, where Australia stopped teaching grammar for a while. And, my knowledge of grammar is really simplistic. I think the idea was that we'd learn it organically. My 7 year old son now has a much better formal understanding of this stuff than I do.

Do things like "female toilets" and "women drivers" make sense? When someone calls me "a female" I'm always waiting for another word. A female person? "A female" seems like they've deliberately left out "person" which feels a bit odd.

A lot of grammar came from Latin and has no place being applied to English in the first place. A fair portion of grammar can be ignored on an everyday basis with no consequences being felt, displaying proper grammar at every moment will make you look like an anal douche.

No. I am sure the whole cullintie club, are just screaming fan boys!

Are you kidding me? Not only do the ladies play the game but bioware knows it. They gear some content to it.

I am sure all the new features in dai char creator is so the men can make their quizzies look pretty.

Also there is always that one good looking char in game that says all the things ladies want to hear because BW is trying to reach the male community.

Please, I am a female that not only plays games but I could beat out most men any day. I am a die hard video game geek. DA, WOW, ME, Assasins Creed. I am also a content contributer which I have noticed is almost equally split between men and women.

Sadly women died out in the late 18th century and you've just been brainwashed into thinking you've met any. We're all grown in glass tubes these days. It's why femquisitor has such stick thin arms and runs the way she does. We just don't have accurate historical records to show what women were actually like.

No-one's playing DAI; any posts you might see on BSN are simply the output of an extremely sophisticated AI engine that BioWare developed instead of finishing the game to give the impression of an active community.

I'M NOT A BOT!

sorry...

I SAID I'M NOT A BOT!

pls move on

I don't care about grammar particularly (although I make a proportion of my income from writing, so I probably should.)

I think my point is more that, in this particular case, "bad grammar" (if that's what it is, I'm no expert) removes "person." That's why it feels weird to me.

But - to the army person above, now I think about it, I know a guy in the army and he does the same and it doesn't bother me. I got used to it with him because it's contextual.

PS. If the OP really does want to help a lady with a Dragon Age problem, or anyone else does, my biggest current frustration is that I don't know how the Revival spell works. I'm playing on Nightmare and every ability point carries a lot of weight for me. I picked it and now can't use it. I try to target it and then it just doesn't fire. So, yes, this is my question. :P

Whether it's an issue or not depends on context. Regarding if it's an adjective or a noun, if you type "define:female" into google, you get:

noun: a female person, animal, or plant.

A little weird using the same word in the definition, but you get the idea *shrugs*.

I think it's mostly females that play Dragon Age and Mass Effect, tbh. The general online fandom is mostly women at least.

I doubt it.

The 49% of gamers are female is mostly attributed to mobile/smart games.

You'd be hard pressed to find any console/PC Triple A title that has more women playing it. Simply because the content in most of these games do not appeal to a majority of women. They are usually not interested in blowing peoples brains out or lopping off Orc heads etc.

Granted games like DA and ME has a larger share than normal of female gamers, because they have the option to play as female and actually CREATE a female character, also, romance is also in the games.

My wife would love to play around in the character creator, but she wouldn't be interested in what the majority of the game is about, combat.

Yes, lets, ignore the fact: that thousands of men are addicted to that stupid mafia facebook game. I would say social media is closer to 50/50.

OP, are you on crack?

Back on topic - statistically, more women play RPG games than men.

Where are these statistics?

I think there is a little bit too much political correctness floating around ignoring reality.

Most women gamers play mobile/puzzle games, my wife included. I try to show her all my games and say look how beautiful they are etc, she doesn't really care.

Of course there are women gamers, more so in a Bioware game. You are however kidding yourself if you somehow think men do not outnumber women in Triple A console/PC games.

In fact it is almost silly. Are you suggesting that there are all of a sudden less male gamers? They just up and quit because a little bit more women started playing?

Gaming in general was a "geek" culture about 12-14 years ago. Even a lot of men was saying they didn't play games because it wasn't "cool" and they were afraid women would think they were geek losers. That all changed when the newer consoles came out and started to make it mainstream. Even the "cool" boys (so they thought) started playing. Women were starting to ****** how their boyfriends ignored them to play games with their buddies instead. Now women are joining in and that is great. Gaming is not a geek or a mans-club anymore. BUT, there are still areas where the male gaming audience dominates and that is these big blockbuster games.

Don't kid yourself.

F2P and mobile games and puzzle games etc are huge with women. It's especially the smartphone craze that has increased the female gaming population.

I would imagine without any facts or stats that DAI still probably has 80% male audience. That there are more women on these forums is not indicative of overall gender stats for this or other Bioware games.

I just think this is a reality. But I wouldn't be surprised that some would put on their white-knight suits and scream bloody murder.

What does it matter? Bloody hell, just play the games and enjoy them. Why do people get so worked up over things that dont even matter?

You base 50-50 on ONE social media game?

is it also 50-50 playing candy crush, Farmville, Kim Kardashian's game that made $200+ million? The countless flash based bubble games (my wife is a pro at it, I think level 600, not joking, I could probably not get passed level 50).

That said, maybe you are right all smartphone/socialmedia games might be 50-50.

That still doesn't change the probability that 70-80% of all blockbuster games have a male audience. I somehow doubt it's 50% women buying GTA5 (35 million copies and counting), COD, Battlefield. I think I read some developer tweet estimating that Tomb Raider (reboot) had 90% male audience.

Is you look at all the big blockbuster games they are almost exclusively very violent and war/action like. That is not a huge appeal to most women.

In today's climate it is not politically correct to say this.

And this is why I hate the majority of the gaming community, nothing but sexism, bigotry, and barriers, because APPARENTLY gaming belongs solely to one small group/minority of gamers. I honestly dont care about your gender, skin colour, e.t.c. e.t.c. e.t.c. Play the damn games, play whatever games YOU want to play, enjoy them, and STOP EXCLUDING PEOPLE.

Why are people hung up on someone saying "female" gamer. How on Earth can politically correct people even turn that into some kind of offense. It is getting ridiculous.

When people start to say "men" gamers (is it even grammatically possible), instead of "male" gamers, I will make sure to always think twice before saying "female" gamer.

Where the hell did I say gaming belongs to male gamers only? I am simply stating the CURRENT reality. There is absolutely nothing wrong with women playing games. Most Triple A console/PC games are clearly not aimed at a female gaming audience, this is the reason why I say I doubt 50% buying this or most other big budget "console" games are women. Why would I care if it is 50% I only care that the game is good and something I want to play. If this game was not something I was interested in, I wouldn't buy it, it's as simple as that.

Where is the bigotry and sexism. It's like a person can't even talk today.

Some of the best games have had female writers, like Uncharted.

22% of game developers are women. That will increase and that is great, to an extent. Women do not in general seem as interested in programming as men.

I don't like SKEWED "facts" that is some kind of agenda/propaganda tool feminists use to harp on us "misogynistic" gamers.

I am NOT the one deciding how games should be made. I am not making Call of Duty etc.

It is just a simple fact most female gamers do not have an interest in a majority of these triple A titles. Do you have a concept of a game aimed towards women audience? What kind of a game is that? I am genuinely interested. I could try to get my wife to buy it.

No one has excluded anyone here, only your own crazy notion of that.
