I actually thought Sera would take the cake seeing as how she has a massive thread dedicated to expressing your negative feelings for her. I like her character but if my Inquisitor had an approval/disapproval system . . it would be in the negatives. She's more like an annoying little sister.

True, she also has the second most active fan-thread after Cullen, though. Most active of all the companions. I think she's one of those love her or hate her types.

She was at the top for a long time. The negative poll doesn't seem to be as stable as the positive poll, where it's been between Dorian and Alistair more or less the whole time. Vivienne, Sera, Sebastian, Merrill, Anders, and Velanna keep leap frogging over each other.

 

I do think Sera is very polarizing, though. Personally she's a middling type for me, but most people tend to loathe or adore her. After the polls have been up for awhile, it would be interesting to subtract all the negative votes from the positive votes in the other poll and see if makes much of a difference.

I'm fine with the majority of them in Origins, though I'll be the first to call out Velanna for being an obnoxious bigot.

 

As much as I liked Anders in DA:A. I hated what he became during DA2 just as much.  I think Carver says it best, "I don't hate you because you're a mage.  I hate you because you won't shut up about it." Though maybe it came down to a philosophical difference.  My Hawke felt that people should stop acting like tools for 30 seconds and try to come up with rational compromises that didn't end with the two remaining powers in Kirkwall slaughtering each other.  Anders, or Vengence, blew up a church to get those two powers to start slaughtering each other in the streets, leveling the city in the process.  That's something of an impasse.

 

As for the third installment, I don't really have much of a problem with anyone.  I guess Blackwall can be a bit boring and dower on occasion, but even he has some pretty damn funny conversations and decent motivations.

That depends on the Hawke, so it's subjective. And Velanna is basically a serial killer. Even if you consider Anders a terrorist, it's not like Velanna has moral high ground. Sera (and Vivienne) are pretty harmless in comparison, though.

I made a "Favourite companions from the Dragon Age series" poll, so I thought I'd follow up with this one. Are there companions you couldn't warm up to or just flat out despised? There's no limit on how many you can vote for. Just vote for any that you harbored any negative feelings for, this excludes companions you were neutral towards.

I have to say I hate Sera the most. She just annoys me to no end probably because she completely conflicts with my personality (serious type). I also dislike Velanna she just seemed over aggressive, like shes on her period all the time :/ Anders I actually loved but the plot of DA2 screwed with his character in the bad way. Merril and Fenris are frustrating to deal with but I enjoy their characters once you move past their annoying faults. I understand why people hate Vivienne. I though I was going to but she turned out to be a likable character for me.

I couldn't stand her before DAI. Now I'm ok with her, but I wouldn't say I'm a fan. I'm surprised she's such a middle-of-the-packer based on the polls, though. I always assumed she was the fandom waifu. I guess she just has very vocal supporters.

I voted for the following characters:

 

- Sera: She's a bit too 'out there' for my liking. Her actions are random, she's incredibly selfish and I've never been a huge fan of elves who don't act like elves. She also acts like a child despite being an adult which isn't a particularly endearing trait for me. 

 

- Iron Bull & Sten: I'll admit, I'm rather biased but I tend to loathe ridiculously oversized fantasy races and the Qunari are no different. I don't find the 'me smash' mentality particularly compelling.

 

- Blackwall/Dorian: Their facial hair really irks me. I know that's a strange reason to dislike a character but it's just a pet peeve of mine. I love characters with some light or thick well groomed/wild stubble but full bears and mustaches just don't interest me at all.

 

I don't find that characters awful, mind you - they're all well designed and well written. They just don't appeal to me.

Picking one from each game: Zevran, Velanna, Isabela, and Sera.

 

Sera is the only one I didn't recruit as in previous games I always wanted to recruit every companion on my main playthrough, but I've since regretted that. I've read up on Sera and watched videos, and I'm glad I didn't.

I also don't think they're necessarily poorly written, just don't like their personalities.
