So everywhere I read about it, people say you can get the schematic from the Hissing Wastes dog merchant after getting the Short List perk.

I now have every Connections perk and have visited the Hissing Wastes merchant probably 30 times over two IRL days and have not seen the schematic.

He has a Superior Venatori Helmet schematic, and Sturdy Battlemaster Armor, but no sign of Superior.  :(

Should I just give up and start farming Tier 3s? At this point in the game I'm ready to do the final mission and I'm drowning in gold and dragon mats, I just want this damned schematic.

And you're sure you have the short list perk?? if you do then maybe another glitch, lol i wouldn't be surprised, but honestly the normal battlemaster schematic is better IMO as it allows more stat additions, of course it has less armor rating.

Maybe try reloading a previous save?

I've reloaded a couple of times thinking that might refresh the store, no luck.

Yeah I'm going for maximum armor rating, there's the Superior Templar which can reach like 308, but it has no upgrade slots.

I'm having the same problem.  However, I remember when I first got the Short List perk the schematic showed up.  I didn't have enough money though to buy it at the time, so I exited out and went adventuring to get some gear to sell.  When I returned the schematic was gone.  And it hasn't shown up again since.

Really frustrating, actually.  :\

There's been several topics about the hissing waste merchant. He seems to be bugged on consoles according to some, but either way his refresh rate is stupid long. I unlocked hissing wastes ASAP and checked after ever major quest/mission completion and he never updated. I had to start farming for schematics and drops that I wanted. I posted my method that I found to update him that seems to work flawlessly but it is boring and very repetitive and still takes a long time, as his short list includes items and schematics. To be honest it is easier to just farm cradle as I can confirm all of the schematics drop from the chests there but it takes as long if not longer depending on you farm method.

But if you want to reset the merchant then What I have found that works start from the second talk too and moving forward is this

1.Port to sky hold let the game auto save and quit to desktop

2. Adjust your system clock forward 4-7 hours(been finding 7 works best for schematics 4 some times get's him stuck on premade armors) take into account am/pm and dates. If you don't then he never gets any short list items

3. log in game pick 2 merchants in skyhold to talk to(I do bonnie sims and the merchant table that has no one there)

4. port to hissing wastes and go to merchant( First time odds are nothing has happened after the first attempt of this it has worked every time for me)

5. port to 2 more locations and spend at least 3 minutes in each one of them needs to have a merchant( I do a cradle run and then go to emprise suledin keep merchant)

6. Repeat steps 1-5.

It's annoying as hell but I have all the mage/rogue/warrior armor and helmet schematics I also found 3 pretty cool uniques from the merchant table at skyhold Punched by the maker which is a good bow for Sera that applies walking bomb on hit, Pyre of the Forgotten which is a very good mage staff only negative is no "fade touched bonus", And tempest which is a griffon mace that does chain lightning. Not to mention a ton of crafting mats from resetting the sacks in cradle.

If the method doesn't work for you I don't know what to tell you outside of farm cradle, hope this helps.

Well I've watched two seasons of Futurama while farming the Cradle, no luck so far, although I think I have every possible staff grip and haft...

Kaorunandrak's method is the last resort.

Now i remember!

The only time i've ever gotten the superior version is with the warrior schematic perk, not with the short list perk.

I got it!

Finally, I found a method that actually worked.

"Go to a zone you don't care about the stock of (for example the western approach) log out to main menu, log back in, check the merchant in hissing wastes, then go to the merchant in emprise du lion, then head back to the western approach and repeat. The zone you log out in doesn't change stock, the other do when you log back in."

He doesn't refresh for me it seems (xbox one) so schematic farming is probably the best option.

The only way I got him to refresh was by dc'ing from the internet and changing the date/time (xbox 360). Always saved in Skyhold and zoned into Hissing Wastes after each time, the only schematic I didn't get was the superior venatori helm, which I just didn't care to keep trying for after getting the last armor schematic. It took about 16 hours to get the armors (did some ore farming runs to break it up).

Really? The method I posted was the only one that worked for me after days of farming and trying to refresh the vendor.

Then again maybe it was just luck, such is the nature of RNG.

You can't manually change time on the one, only time zones, I tested it for the wartable and it made no difference, sucks really.

This works for me as well. Or at least it does most of the time. Thanks for the tip! :D

I'm playing the game on an xbox one and I was having the same problem in that the Hissing Wastes vender was selling the Superior Battlemaster Armor and would never refresh to anything else.  I tried buying it, went back and he had the same thing for sale.  Based on "Dansrage" suggestion I actually quit the game instead of just exiting to the dashboard.  Sure enough, when I went back, the vendor was selling the schematic.

No updates here I see...I have the same problem. I play on a PC and the merchants att Suledin Keep and Griffons Keep update their stock, but the Canyon market has not updated it once. It's really annoying since I am close to the end of the game and I don't want to waste my dragon bones on another armor in case this shows up. But this is no way to play a game, hopping around between vendors and starting and exiting the game...

If you put a point into this why do you need luck to get the best equipment? Either make it into random loot drops/random vendor stock or put a point in one perk - not both.
