does anyone know if it is a good staff ?

I found it in the merchand at the Griffon Wing Keep (the Western Approach).

The base characteristics seem pretty low (compared to the staff currently equipped by Dorian) but I guess if a rune, blade and grip are added, it may be better.

However I'm not sure it justifies the whopping 20k gold ... Any advice (I haven't bough it yet) ?

For that price? I wouldn't bother myself. Better staffs can be crafted or possibly found.

Too bad it isn't schematic, I love how that staff looks, though.

NONE of the staffs for sale are worth their price for their combat stats. Full stop.

It has a base damage of 68, which is decent, and poorly allocated stats. (Armour penetration on a staff? Really?)

Any T3 staff you craft with T3 materials will be superior. And you can get a T3 staff schematic from Emprise du Lion/Suledin Keep vendor, for around 7000 gold or so.

If you buy it, you are buying it for its looks.

I know, Kaorunandrak, I know...

But it is a sad fact, that with respect to the stats on items, all the weapons and armour for sale and the vast majority of those that are found in the world are greatly inferior to crafted weapons and armour made using cheap recipes and easily available materials.  Only in the beginning of the game when they player doesn't have access to the schematic vendors are weapons and armour found competitive or superior.

The Masterwork Archon Staff Schematic has that appearance, if you really want it.

Capture Suledin Keep and buy, I believe for 7 000 gold, the First Enchanter Staff schematic. Depending on the materials the player uses, the stats will be far better

Right, and it will allow him to stack +40% attack rather that measly +16%, if that's what he likes.

I'm thinking exactly the same. The staff looks gorgeous, but at the end if the stats are not so great, I may wait and find a T3 schematic

It's a potential reward, during Iron Bull's personal quest.
