Look, I know what the Bioware team was aiming for with this, that it helps us explore the area Skyrim style, but the system as it stands is just terrible. I spend most of my time falling off ledges, having to backtrack, and trying to jump/climb my way back up again. Please, this needs a lot more work.
*Sigh* Jumping/Climbing

Warriors have a roll skill that you have to unlock

What? It isn't that difficult: Don't walk on steep cliffs, you won't slide/fall. it isn't difficult.
The Combat Roll is a warrior skill (Battlemaster Tree) and the leap skill is a rogue ability. They're in the game.

Then DAI needs to be vastly more mod-friendly. ![]()

If you want a skyrim audience you need to work the mod angle. Skyrim's staying power is due to the extended stories and people pushing every aspect of the technology beyond the limits imposed off the shelf -textures, animation and behavior mods pushed the envelope.
However, Skyrim also pushed computers to the limit, so consoles were left out due to the large files and the extreme resolution. I have a mod that works a bit like frostbite on a very small scale to reproduce realistic skin on all the characters, it's not a glamor mod by any means. Imperfections are viewed as ideally realistic, however the textures are very dense and it is a memory hog in some situations, less so if you tailor it to just your companions. Frostbite could, without a doubt, produce the same effect much more efficiently.

I'm afraid it will take teams to make effective mods in frostbite, as done with ME3 - had to divide and conquer different elements artwork, dialog, story and some acting along with hackers scouring code, tools have to be developed and tested, etc. Bioware would like us to remember consoles, they could certainly help with that and also cross platform QA testing.

I wouldn't mind all the jumping so much if BioWare hadn't placed loot and shard in areas you can only reach by climbing mountains. If I wanted to play such a game, then I'd play Tomb Raider.

Skyrim works and sold quite well on consoles. That's the benefit of a good artistic direction, you don't need killer machines for the game to be beautiful, it simply is.
However, jumping like a mad man to reach a high point is not something I wish other studios would emulate.

And the controls are such a joy - you know about the shard in the Hinteland's dragon zone, right? Where you to climb that weird rocky rock with an inquisitor who can't turn on the spot, meaning that touching A briefly will likely result in him walking in a massive circle and falling off. What? It isn't that difficult: Don't walk on steep cliffs, you won't slide/fall. it isn't difficult.
The Combat Roll is a warrior skill (Battlemaster Tree) and the leap skill is a rogue ability. They're in the game.
You'll also have to contend with the game's tendency to randomly teleport you back (just like Fps games with really terrible lag sometimes do... Except that dragon age inquisition is single player)
Finally, after enduring this fun platforming mechanic, be prepared to run into invisible walls on top of a lot of hills.

Like a lot of things in this game, jumping and climbing works easier in my opinion with a gamepad. But even then, the platforming is extremely frustrating. And I think, though without evidence, that not all character models work the same. I find that with my female qunari rogue I simply can't jump onto certain platforms. If I switch to Cassandra, she gets up a lot easier. I dunno if anyone else notices this, but I just find it easier to platform with Cassandra than my rogue, which is whack.

Then there is the inconveniently-placed elfroot, that you're forced to pick up because it's right next to the ledge/stair/rock you're trying to jump up.

Got 93 hours of playtime, 73 hours being jumping, climbing and loading screens. Considering how much time these activities take up in comparison to everything else they should be more fleshed out.

This is one complaint I simply can’t agree with. Jumping and climbing is easy. You’re just doing it in the wrong places. There’s nowhere with something you want that you can’t get to. Easily.

I'm happy we can jump at all ôÔ
Always felt kinda disabled in DA:O and 2 beein so earthbound. At least you are not stuck anymore between two pebbles or forced to walk detours instead of just dropping down dat 1 foot drop...

Just spend better part of an hour jumping/sliding/falling like a complete idiot due to the bad controls to get to a damn Elven Artifact in Exalted Plains. Finally found that ONE spot where you could half walk up/jump up to get to it(and I could swear that I only got up due to a companion pushed me...) and then the artifact doesn't ****** work...
BW encourages us to get to these areas through jump puzzles etc. but yet the controls/system/feeling is so horribly bad(at least on PC). Seriously fix it already. It ruins the entire experience.
