And for a while there, despite how it started, it had actually become pretty good.

It is when people in those areas grow up with a radical hatred and mistrust of law enforcement. Yes, police should be held accountable for their actions, but so should the people. If you preach hatred, you'll only get hatred back.

I am not going to continue this argument, because this is the bsn and im not here for this silliness, ill just say If he wasn't trying to be racist his choice of words was still in very poor taste.

I won't deny his wording was bad, but it's very hard to find the proper wording for it. It's far worse however to simply deny he had a point for using mean language. after all, that's the point of DAI, isn't it? To make people look above their petty squabbles, look at the bigger picture or the larger problem, and focus them on fixing that first?

I'll (with a bit of hesitation) say that I'm willing to grant a fair bit of leeway when someone is going for comedy or satire. Such things are always a risk, and they don't necessarily represent someone's social or political views. He may have been attempting to satirize both sides (albeit not very well.)

It was some of what followed that left me with a discombobulated feeling...

The lady figures (except for the noodle arms) are alright. I don't have a problem with Cassandra's body type, and I think she's fit as well.   I'm not seeing the issue here.  Also, I couldn't call my lady dwarf anorexic by any stretch.  Slightly thinner than the race was in Origins, but not by much at all.

...And this thread just turned political.  Right, I'll show myself out.

I came into this thread to talk about the character models for inquisition, apparently I've stumbled upon an entirely different controversy which I will side step.

I don't feel the human female and male and female elfs look "right" if you play as anything other than a Mage. I like to play as an elf but just can't as to me they don't look capable of lifting a big sword or standing up in the plate armour.

It really annoys me, especially in the less "padded" armour sets which highlight just how thin their arms are.

I think it's good, for both rp and to allow people to feel represented if games could have different body shapes, but I realise this takes recourses to do.

The level of control for body type in dragons dogmas character creator would be great for future da games (even the slightly creepy boob slider...) but I don't know if that is even necessary. A few options like "slim, muscles or "average" would be a good start!

I don't have a problem with gay people in a fecking game. I have a problem when their entire character is centered AROUND them being gay, acting as if it's a character trait. It's not. It's a state of being. That's why I actually liked Cortez as a character in ME3, sure most of it was around him being gay for his side story, but it was over the loss of a loved one. Something anyone anywhere can relate to. Dorian's side story is just him being kicked out of his family for being gay and his dad literally wanting to 'bloodmagic the gay away'. that's not relate-able to a mass audience, it's a cliche in every modern media as another wack on the dead horse against religious nut jobs, and makes it a character trait.

Dorian wasn't kicked out for being gay, he was exiled for not getting married & having children like he was ment to since he didn't want to live a lie his entire life

You think this is an actual problem?

Point proven. Thanks. The idea that black people want everything given to them for nothing IS racist, its also bs.

Yes it is a problem.  2 examples I'll give, the protests and the culture.

1. The protests - I've seen in several of the protests the organizers and their FB page asking their white supporters to NOT participate in the protest or die-in because it takes away from the message and lessens the problems black people face.  What they mean to say is they preach that blacks are targeted and hated by whites and having whites at the protests diffuses their hate and illusion that all their failures are due to whites still hating and holding them back, etc.  Also that the deaths were the result of being black, but a white person reaching for a gun, punching an officer, etc, would not have been shot.

2. Culture - I've had quite a few black friends over the years.  Some who tried to do good in school, better their lives, get good jobs, and they all told me how talked down they were by those in their community and accused of acting too white and being a traitor to their race, etc.  Look this up online, you'll find many black people on youtube videos, etc, also saying it happens.  AND it's even worse for a mixed person, if they are mixed, they will first be told they aren't black enough then if/as they try to better themselves they are also a traitor, etc.  Not every black person is like this but there is a big chunk of that community that embrace the thug lifestyle, who hold themselves and everyone else back because succeeding in life is 'too white' then turn around and blame whitey for being poor.  They 'don't rat' on who killed their neighbor or the little boys then complain that police don't care about blacks because if it was a white person they suspect would be arrested immediately.  Ignoring the fact that in most neighborhoods witnesses help out and if the whole community 'no saw nuffin' then the police don't have much to go on. Also look up the chris rock video on 'how not to get your arse kicked by police", which was definitely relevant in MB and Travyon situation, even though Zimmerman not a cop.  Eric Garner is the only case where the police were in the wrong, but it doesn't mean because he was black, whites are just as affected by the bad cops.

As for the gay stuff on the game,  just what some others said, with Dorian its smeared in your face.  Also Iron Bull's top guy, or girl. (should you ever talk to them). Also as a straight person in the game, none of the girls actually hit on you, you have to pursue it, yet the gay ones seem anxious and very easy, almost felt like had to beat them back. Straight stuff only gets a nip slip, yet the lez option shows A LOT.  It's fine for the game to have options for anybody's taste, but not when they are trying to shove issues down your throat to please or appease the gay community, feminist community, etc.

I think Cassandra is perfect in every way. Perhaps I am biased because I positively adore her, but nonetheless-- perfection.

Edit: Yeah, I am jumping ship, too. This ship is sinking.

So Bioware is the company that takes on social issues

It explores social issues, it doesn't take them on.

is it really trolling when the guy has a point? Bioware has seemed to be focusing more on making pander-istic characters of 'progressive' nature rather then ones of merit. Dorian's side quest with cinematics suddenly being utterly focused on him being gay, ironbull creating an entire dispute over how the qun even works, and so on and so forth.

and is there something wrong about being white or republican?

No, I'm white and right of the center myself.

But surrounding what might be a valid point with inflammatory caricatures rarely generates meaningful discussion

O and it was originally meant to be sattire comedy with elements of truth.  You can't deny Bioware and in DAI, is getting into politics and social issues and pushing some agenda's, some parts like Dorian were not even on the down low, so I wonder how much further will it go in their future games.  I don't play a game to have a groups political and social issues preached to me and it was in bad taste.  To the person who said Dorians quest wasn't about him being gay, did you forget all the dialogue that centered on his father trying to use blood magic to cure his gayness and not accept him for what he is?

Regarding the PC character models, I thought most of them were fine but I sort of have to agree with most people on the elves. I prefer the more willowy build of the elves since I don't want them to be just short humans with pointy ears like their DAO counterparts but they seem less lean and more scrawny.

Honestly for the male elves I think I would have preferred the body used being more like the one used for Fenris. I remember someone made a post where it was shown that they practically did remodel the DA2 elf bodies for DAI but for some reason Fenris seems much more formidable for someone with a thin build. Perhaps it's the armour?

Nonetheless, he looks capable of wielding a one-handed sword at the very least. Also, I would love to own those gauntlets in real life.

EDIT: Okay, yep, time to jump ship.

which is a cliche to trope for gay characters in all media. "I can't live this lie anymore!" He also wasn't exiled, he left home after hearing that his father basically wanted to 'pray the gay away' with blood magic. his entire character was based around him being gay, in tone to look to merit even wording, and it made him an awful character for it.

anyway, back to the topic, the women in the game look fine.

His father wanted to change him because he refused to do the usual thing & get married while taking a gay lover in private, hence Dorian left Tevinter & joined the inquisition afterwards. It wasn't so much that he was gay, it was that he wasn't furthering the family legacy
