How in God's name do you get this? In my game Alistair is the King. Do I need him as a Warden for this to happen?

You need to have Warden Alistair and Morrigan in Skyhold at the same time, but apparently no one knows what exactly is needed to trigger the conversation.

I tried like crazy to get this to trigger in my last play through where Loghain did the DR. They were both at Skyhold but I couldn't figure it out I was a sad panda

I have him as a Warden in my playthrough and happily left Hawke behind to save Alistair from the fade so he can rebuild and lead the Wardens..well, until his Love comes back from her ''personal quest'' that she's on for her and Alistair.

 

I will be starting the quest to save Empress Celene soon and I know I will be getting Morrigan after that's all said and done but I thought Alistair went to Weissaupt. When does he come back?

Alistair can be found at the battlements (where you first meet Hawke) after you talk to him at Crestwood. So if you finish the Orlesian ball first instead of going to Adamant you can have both Alistair and Morrigan at Skyhold at the same time.

Oh I see. So because I already did Adamant, he will not be at Skyhold for me even after I do the Ball? 

Good thing I have a different play-through on going as well who has yet to do either of those things.

Nah, he goes off to Weisshaupt after Adamant and that's the last you'll see of him.

So how do you get that to trigger? I have Alistair & Morrigan at Skyhold but not sure how to get the clip.

It doesn't trigger if Alistair is at Skyhold before Morrigan before Adamant. 

 

Has anyone tried to go to the ball first and then Crestwood to find Alistair? 

 

So I guess the order has to be Ball -> Crestwood -> Adamant.

And then you are supposed to wait in the garden for that talk to happen (as they say). So, according to someone in comments to the video, the order is: Crestwood -> Halamshiral (the ball) -> the talk in the garden -> Adamant

The voice acting, it's too good. Shame you have to solve a damned puzzle to actually hear it in the game.

Surprised there's not some conversation with Stroud if Kieren exists. Asking Morrigan about her role in the blight, maybe pondering why no warden died slaying the beast.
