Yeah, this actually quite useful. I've been searchng for the Balanced Greatsword Schematic, and I think this is a confirmation it's not in the standard loot tables.
Better farming method for T3 Schematics with specific items listed

Honestly it has gotten to the point where I downloaded cheatengine to add the schematics manually because I'd rather spend 3 hours at the ery start of the game adding all 550 schematics rather than 3 hours trying to get the item I want.

That's a nice heads up, thanks.
If I may ask, are you sure you got "Masterwork Etched Greatsword Grip" this way?
From what I've seen this is a War Table Operation Reward, and depending on your choice on one of the main quest (Here Lies the Abyss) you may miss this Operation. I've been trying to get it through chest farming for a time now without success.
Yes. Everything listed came from the same area in Emprise.

Well, not sure why nobody ever talks about this, but the fastest way to do this is a quicksave and reload. For this you need one location with... let's say at least four T3 capable boxes in one location, like Valeska's Watch, it needs to be within one of the main areas, not the small instances.
The small instances have their loot set on entrance, so you enter and leave for a reset of the boxes.
If you find a good spot like the Hissing Wastes or as Chubs said, Valeska's Watch, then you're better off with a load/reload session than with a complete rrun with exit and reenter of a small instance. It's just a waste of time to walk.
Of course, the same rules apply, you need to leave at least one item in the boxes to get the reload. If you found a schematic, or some good blues for cash, save your progress, then reload.

Even if you can't make it to Valeska's when you first get to Skyhold, you can go to Emprise, sneak off the side of Sahrnia starting camp and farm some Tier 3 Snouflours, and some Tier 2 and 3 metals.

Valeska's Watch is hands-down the best option to farm T3 schematics. You don't have to leave VW to reset. I always start my run on top of the stairs right in front of the Deft Hands Perk door. One chest left, one right, one top middle and the two in the "locked" room. Walk out of the "locked" room on top of the stairs, save - reload and start a new run.
Pretty fast.

I know it must sound stupid, but how? I've yet to find the faq I actually understand to get the items I want in game.
And btw, I've no f idea how each t3 armor look on pc and companions. No one will ever make screenshots of those and post it somewhere on bsn or wiki I guess? ![]()

Well, I tried it today, but I have to tell that the schematic I left in there wasn't there anymore when I returned to the chest. So be careful if there is something in there you REALLY need.

And, presumably people know they have to fight a mob of Darkspawn when they first open the door to the cave. Plus, getting to Drakon's Rise takes a bit of effort.

Hi all! I'd like to share how I've managed to get around the RNG fairly successfully in my most recent playthrough. I'm aware that a great many players have been using The Cradle of Sulevin as a schem farm. It works, however I've found a faster method and location which doesn't require loading out and back in.
In Emprise du Lion, just past the Drakon's Rise camp is Valeska's watch. You need a key which is found using the loot sonar, but for all you silverite farmers, the location should be familiar. There are a couple of nearby fade rifts but neither is required to get in out of the mini-dungeon safely. Deft hands, fine tools perk is recommended.
I start at the chest near the spot where you obtain the key. ALWAYS leave 1item remaining in each chest you encounter, even if it contains something you want. You'll be rerolling the chests quickly so don't worry. It will show up again. I clear the dungeon, exit back to the 1st chest near the campsite and reenter. It's a small dungeon with all 6 loot containers fairly close. Just run through, check all chests, return to the nearby campsite chest and repeat. I've found nearly all the noteworthy T3 schematics using this method. As it is a small area to cover, the chests refresh very quickly, so it is a pretty constant farm.
I've listed my spoils from this method and here is what I've found so far:

The general consensus seems to be that the Superior Prowler/Battlemaster/Battlemage Armor Schematics are only available from the Hissing Wastes Vendor and only if you have the Short List Perk.

Leaving one item in the chest or "Farming" just seems like it takes away from the game to me. Even though I have to admit I did use the duplication trick on the 100% Masterwork Essence. Shouldn't have done that though because than I went on to duplicate all my dragon items an so on. Ruined the rest of the game for me since I was an unstoppable force. Going to go through it again though without cheating.

I did my first play on Nightmare, and wasn't even aware of farming methods. Honestly, I'm not sure why anyone feels the need to, since beating the game isn't difficult. I suppose completionists might want this stuff.

The reload method does not seem to work for me. I keep 1 item in the chest, save, load, and there still is the same item in there. It doesn't matter if i leave the area and come back. Everywhere is still the same item i left in various chests in whole Thedas. Is there something i'm doing wrong?

Hi Chubs,
I have only one suggestion I'd make: forget the back chest where the breach your Mage closed is. It doubles the length of your run for only one more lousy chest to check. When I went through there, I took everything so I wouldn't be tempted to go back to it xD.
Now I just loop through the main hall, and have 5 chests, then back out to the one by the key location for 6.
Disclaimer: if you don't have "deft hands, fine tools" you have 2 less, but no one's really trying to farm here without that perk, are yeh? ![]()
By the time you leave the main hall, run back to the Darkspawn-area sole chest, then run back to the main hall, you could be starting another loop of the main hall.
Fun fact: you can mount up in this entire area. I experimented with it, but since you have to open the main door on each run, it's not as super useful as it could be. Still, maybe someone better at timing mounting and dismounting could get some use out of it.

Short answer: yes. (I'm super helpful!)
Bet you a dollar you're saving too close to the chest. Go away. The items in a chest are rolled when you get close to it, not when you open it. So you're saving it with the item you left there.
If you see the "loot" label appear above a chest, you're too close and the items have been rolled for. It might roll items before you get that close, but I can confirm that the tooltip appearing definitely means it's too late. You have to save the game away from any chests or containers, and then go check them, and then go away again out of the area before saving. Or, simplest way, zone completely and come back.
If you don't care about "save scumming," and you're not easily bored, you can save the game far from the chest, run up to it, open it. Nothing you want? Just load that save and repeat. Something you want, when there are two or more items? Take the thing you want, leave at least one item in the chest, and leave the area completely so it regenerates contents.
If you stay too close, or keep a save too close, or don't leave an item in the chest, nothing will change.

Thank you very much for your help. This works. I followed the video instructions first. He saved in front of a chest too.

Just looted a Balanced Greatsword 2-handed schematic from the left hand side chest behind the deft hands locked door in Valeska's Watch.
Been looking ages for this one, and it took hours to turn up. But it definitely drops in this area.
