Well, I tried it today, but I have to tell that the schematic I left in there wasn't there anymore when I returned to the chest. So be careful if there is something in there you REALLY need.

PSA: couple of important things to remember.

The chest doesn't get new items when it refreshes; it rerolls the contents.  That's why leaving just one item in there doesn't result in that same item being in there with other stuff when you go back.  Leaving something you want as the last item means it won't be there when you return.

As chubs mentions in the guide, don't worry about that a whole lot, if you're trying to keep a lot of chests "alive."  But if you have a farming area you use and keep all the chests alive in, then if you see something rare or something you've been looking for somewhere else, or in some remote location you may not go back to, and it's the only item, might as well take it and kill the chest.

The other thing is vital: do not save your game anywhere near the chest.  You will save what is in it and it will be kept when you reload.  Chest contents are determined when you get near it, not when you open it.  It's definitely too late if you see the "loot" label appear, but they might get rolled for even further than that.

What you need to do is STOP when you see a chest across the room.  Save there before getting anywhere close.  THEN check the contents, and if there's nothing you want, reload your save, and the contents will not have been rolled for yet.  You'll get new results when you approach.

The T3 farming still works after the patch 3? Unfortunately I have to download it later :(

Really, don't know, I stopped playing while waiting for patches and quit caring somewhere along the way. Props to you if you're still fleshing the list out. I'm using my game CD's for the $70 coasters they are.

It sucks.  I got the Balanced Greatsword and a Masterwork Haft from 2 different chests in Valeska's Watch.  Problem was they were the only item in the chest.  Farming there isn't as good now as it went from 6 chests down to 4.  I still got Cradle Chests.  I need to get the Masterwork Pommel next.  I spend so much time trying to get these things.

Well no more Chest Farming.  So much for that.  Second play through won't be nearly as fun now.

Chest contents are determined when you get near it, not when you open it.  It's definitely too late if you see the "loot" label appear, but they might get rolled for even further than that.

Unless I misunderstand you, that doesn't seem to be the case. I've made saves up close to chests (with random items) several times and the content changes every time I reload the save and check the contents. In fact, that's the "method" I've been using to get something that's worthwhile.

Yeah I read people said it was finished, but I just tried it and it still works.  Good stuff.

I also got 2 grey warden daggers( not schematic) not sure how rare they are though

You don't even have to run back to the campsite. You can just save/load and the chests refresh.

Hi all! I'd like to share how I've managed to get around the RNG fairly successfully in my most recent playthrough. I'm aware that a great many players have been using The Cradle of Sulevin as a schem farm. It works, however I've found a faster method and location which doesn't require loading out and back in.

In Emprise du Lion, just past the Drakon's Rise camp is Valeska's watch. You need a key which is found using the loot sonar, but for all you silverite farmers, the location should be familiar. There are a couple of nearby fade rifts but neither is required to get in out of the mini-dungeon safely. Deft hands, fine tools perk is recommended.

I start at the chest near the spot where you obtain the key. ALWAYS leave 1item remaining in each chest you encounter, even if it contains something you want. You'll be rerolling the chests quickly so don't worry. It will show up again. I clear the dungeon, exit back to the 1st chest near the campsite and reenter. It's a small dungeon with all 6 loot containers fairly close. Just run through, check all chests, return to the nearby campsite chest and repeat. I've found nearly all the noteworthy T3 schematics using this method. As it is a small area to cover, the chests refresh very quickly, so it is a pretty constant farm.

I've listed my spoils from this method and here is what I've found so far:

I will keep at it and add anything new I come across. Hope this helps!

Yes, this is an excellent farming location. I recently found the Hossberg Twainer here, which some consider to be one of the best 2H weapons in the game.

It's a perfect area for farming Great Bear Hide too! Just North of Crystal Cascade landmark (near frozen lake West of tower in the middle of it). Kill all wild life in vicinity, go into enclosed ruin with all your party, and you can chain spawn Great Bears one after another without even reloading. Added bonus with 2 chests nearby (if you want to reload to respawn loot).

I've had those Great Bears chain spawn- but I could never figure out how to trigger them- just assumed it was random. Do I have to kill all the wildlife on the frozen lake? Or up near the Elven Ruin?
