story is pretty linear tho, you don't get to affect the major plot quests/narrative (well unless the thing with Arhu, but that's minor)

That doesn't detract from the game at all.

I'd prefer a well thought out main plot, than a totally free-form one. But one example of the way that the choices work, inside quests, is when you're investigating the death right at the start. There are so many ways you can go about getting the information and evidence, I don't even recall a previous game that gave you so many choices in how to tackle situations.

Amazing.

What game does?

Alpha Protocol.

Lest we forget ME3s 'Distinct endings' which came down to what colour things were painted in....

People keep reminding everybody that Bioware games aren't RPGs. So comparing a proper RPG like Divinity with ME3 to try and prove the RPG cred of Divinity isn't exactly logical.

That DOS had a main plot is neither here nor there, because there are so many active quests littered around that you constantly find yourself diverging to investigate this or that.

I have rarely heard of Divinity's side quests being praised. They're nothing special.

That's a level of RPG that DAI can only dream about.

It's popular with old-school fans because a lot of old-school RPGs were stat heavy, combat sims.

Not really, from objective point of view DA:I is by all means a good game. Of Course there are problems, bigger then smaller at that. However this year has a bunch of really good titles: Dark Souls 2 (damn, it wasn't nominated ;f), Divinity Original Sin etc - Well lets hope DA:I gets more attention and fix/add game content, and ofc i wish a better dragon age next time.

well i had a blast with it, finished 4 times in co-op mode, each time trying to do something new - from tactics, builds to different RP alignments (did lone wolf/glass cannon PT; it's OP; once we slaughtered pretty much everything on our path and so on). i think in single player mode, it is only a good combat simulator

and well... i love the humour

i suppose there is not enough camera action or romances, so people don't like it very much. ok, no snarking. yeah, the story is hardly original in this one. waiting for next Divinity tho, Ego Draconis ending left me speachless

That ending... it was slap in a face - it was good, but annoying as hell xD

I haven't played D:OS, but It seems to me that combat is rather tedious in that game, for those whose preferences lie somewhere else, such as with dialogue and story.

I've played the Dragon Knight Saga and found it very enjoyable as a game and as a world, but the story...well, it takes some getting used to, and the ending is extremely odd. it only didn't get an ME3 reaction from me because it was so obviously sequel bait. Then came Dragon Commander, which didn't appeal to me at all. Now Divinity: Original Sin.... it does sound interesting, but I wonder if I'll get bored with it halfway through.

I'm looking forward to Divinity Original Sin too. Almost glad I decided not to get it while it was on sale because if i paid full price for DAI, I feel like I own DOS as much.

But don't you think its maybe a bit crass to gush about it here by way of backhandedly insulting DAI?

I mean, there's filing valid complaints about DAI and then there's essentially singing "Na na na na na nah! Yooooouuuu looooost!"

Actually surprised D:OS won. Played it with my partner, but we couldn't even finish it because of how boring it was. The combat was nice (because it was challenging early on), but everything else was just... bleugh. And don't get me started on my character walking around in high heels.......

Edit: Just looked at the nominations... Hearthstone? Shadows of Mordor? Really? Since PC gamers are a little butthurt over DA:I atm (only thing that annoys me is lack of walk toggle), its actually not surprising it won >.<.

Dragon Age Inquisition is actually my runner up :P

I just feel Divinity Original Sin was the overall better experience for me this year.

I definitely wasn't on the D:OS forums going "WTF WTF" - I can tell you that much lol

Exactly this.

I only got into DOS from the Steam launch but damn if it didn't feel solid and finished. I never crashed, not a single time. Not since owning it, in fact.

The whole thing just delivers as a cohesive, finished package that doesn't have tacked on elements dripping with microtransactions and DLC. I realise it's probably not the case fully but it feels like a labour of love by the developers, you can just feel how well it all hangs together.

DAI couldn't be further away from it, on every single point. If Bioware released an updated version of DAO to use Frostbite, it would blow DAI out of the water too.

DAI is a shooter in mages clothing.

depends on your filters. i'm trying to be neutral, filtering out the bashing and the... well, mostly the bashing (fans and haters both). i really believe DA:I is an awesome game. as DA:O was. but... i cannot force myself to play it (patch 3, come here nao).

If DAI was to be delayed (again) for additional polishing though, it would run straight into direct competition with TW3 for GOTY

Honestly I still feel they should have allowed a closed beta for PC players. Since I've entered the indie scene beginning with Mount and Blade I've seen a huge disconnect of quality between games that do offer closed betas and games that don't.

You´ve played Flames of Vengeance, haven´t you? Quite annoying to leave 1/3 of the story for an expansion, but at least it was good. And unlike DAII, they published it.

There is not alot of actual DA Inquisition discussion happening here. We are done.
