I've played PC games since 1995. I was even playing seriously in clans for many years, with tactics, tweaks, practice and whatever you can imagine.
But this game? I only fight the controls. These god d*mn controls! All the time I have to pay extra attention to my mouse buttons.
And this isn't even a FPS but an RPG?
When my hand slips the button everything goes bananas. I find my self looking in completely random directions and have to use time to gain control again. And then the battle is either over or lost. How amusing and satisfying...
I want the mouse to lead my motion and view point. Like it's always been.
Why on earth do I use my attention pressing a mouse button just to be able to view and move? It's just complicating things. Sorry, but that's my opinion.
I don't fight the enemy. I fight the controls!
I don't fight the enemy - I fight the controls!

Get a controller. This game is not meant to be played with a mouse, especially not if your hand keeps slipping off the buttons.

The AI is really weird, doesn't seem to listen to any behaviours I set, or even use their abilities with any reliance. Some abilities seem to just get completely ignored. Anyway just buy a damn controller, you will thank yourself later. It's nice to be able to lay down in bed/sit on a couch and play sometimes. That said, yes, the KBM controls are terrible.

A game "made by PC gamers for PC gamers" which is not meant to be played with a mouse ?!? Yeah, right...

Played PC games with Joystick, KB and Mouse since 1983. If I wanted to use a controller to play a video game, I would be playing on a PS3/4 or an Xbox, not a PC.
The 'hold R mouse button to move and look' is a giant step back. Regardless of your coordination, with no good spatial feedback as to where your mouse cursor really is when running or fighting, it's easy for your mouse to drift off the screen, but more frequently move down into the control bar so you inadvertently pause your player in the middle of a pitched fight, use a power you didn't want, or use potions you don't need.
Give me the ME3 mouse look controls back.

If you compare the K+M controls to the controller you'll see why its meant to be played with a controller. I don't know where you got that phrase from, but it doesn't apply here.

Unless you're younger than 30 years old, YOU DO NOT PLAY PC GAMES WITH A CONTROLLER. PERIOD.
Okay, Mr. Moderator, you can close this thread now. We're all done.

USB is a thing now, man.
Stop trying to, like, edit your autoexec.bat to add your SoundBlaster and you'll be much happier.
Dude.

This was made for consoles so you really need to use a gamepad. The PC port is pretty ****** poor quality, there is zero optimization for KB+Mouse.

It's not a giant step back.
It's pants on head stupid.
And why I describe this game to my friends as "a shitty console port".
I enjoy despite, not because, of the control scheme.

ZOUNDS.
Uh, what's USB????
PC Controllers??? We don't need no stinkin' PC Controllers. That's why we have console platforms.

Your hand slips off of mouse buttons?
.
Yes, my hand 'slips' the mouse button. You can say that. But its only half of it.
My hand also gets stiff by pressing the mouse button all the time. I'm not used to keep pressing like that. After a couple of hours my hand gets sore.
I'm fifty years old. I don't have a teenagers hand anymore.
Apart from that I am not used to constantly press the mouse buttom down. No other games I've ever played demanded this. Its not mormal and feels idiotic.
Its not relaxing to play like this. On the contrary. And I simply don't understand why we suddenly have to press this button to center or freeze the view point like this? Why not have it as it used to be? Why make it more confusing and harder to navigate? Its a stress factor.
Just because someone had a great idea of making a change doesn't mean this change is to the better?
I compare this with politics. Every single time a politician gains power he has to prove he can change the world into something better. But it only ends up in 'changes' without 'better'.

Mushashi7, I wish I still had 50 year old hands. Maybe then I could hold down that damn R-Mouse button constantly and play this game without looking up at the sky in the middle of a fight, drinking down my potions for no reason like soda pop when I have full health, and triggering my Tier 3 Mark of the Rift on a deepstalker.

On the combat/strategy section I opened a thread and it's quite interesting how others have overcome the "control boss"
For the "AI boss" here's a few suggestions that I found that enhanced my gameplay:
- Make all characters use the "follow (themselves)" behavior, this will make targeting manual
- Turn off friendly fire, AI does not understand it, nor can you configure their AI with DAI
- Make all defensive skills "prefered", especially block/evade skills
- Change healing potion reserves to "all" - so for characters that die often due to AI retardation - they at least - won't use up all your potions

Thank the Maker I'm not the only one with that mouse drift problem. I thought I was going batty! I mean, how did it get there?

I just quoted Bioware's marketing. And it wasn't targeted at you, because in fact you are right : It's meant to be played with a controler... ![]()

There is also no hold button that works correctly and when i assign orders to team members i have to watch them as they do not follow orders correctly but this is what we have at the moment so we will have to wait for a fix if we get one.
I also fight with the controls more than i do with enemies or more correctly I fight more with companions who will not follow what I assign for them.

I bought my first controller because of this. I can play with the controller but since using it isn't second nature I am playing for much shorter periods of time. I think my longest DA:I session has been five hours. My longest DA:O session was about 15 hours.

I have no problems with the controls, just like every new game I just need a max an hour to learn the controls and then play like it's normal.

And I'll make a guess that you where born after 1980...
Us old fogies who did not grow up with a controller...Controllers are not natural...we grew up with the Typewriter/Keyboard...and then moved over shouting and screaming to the mouse...and now they want us to learn a new controller...problem is...as you get older...holding buttons down for long periods of time...HURT...
I was not expecting DA:I to be an action game that is only enjoyable with a controller...but to be like it's predecessors...More tactical type game that was Mouse/Keyboard friendly.

Finally got around to playing:
1: Everything got a whole lot more tolerable once I configured jumping to Q and pausing to space.
2: Really annoying having to re-guess if you're "close enough" to right-click loot.
3: Overall I think the PC control scheme is bad.. but not intolerable. I learned to deal with it and move on. It's just a shame since I just played Transistor and.. well, completely different genre, but the point is that they could make a good action game dominated by mouse control! (that also rocked on the playstation, I am told)
4: Therefore I find that criticism in this regard goes a bit far. K+M is not unplayable, but could have been done much better.
4a: Addendum: If you are in some way handicapped and only have one well functioning hand, then yes it is bad and you'll probably need a special mouse + software to make playing possible.. And even then, it'll be hard.
5: The AI is the worst. Why are my companions running around like hyperactive bees on acid? It's a shame tactics were done away with like this.
