I'm quite interested how other PC players play DAI with the current controls.

What is your current PC control scheme? I've experimented with the rebinding and so far this is what I've ended up with:

WASD - forward/back/strafe left and right

< > - rotate camera (never use it)

Q - ability 7 (I generally put a block/parry skill on the slot)

E - ability 8 (I generally put a dodge skill on this slot)

Z - reserved for coming walk toggle if it makes it for the next patch

R - search

F - interact

Shift - horse sprint, hoping they implement a hold to walk button for easier precision movement

X - Jump (JK style)

Space - Pause

1-6 - abilities 1 to 6

T, V, H - companion commands

B - Mount

C - Character screen

G - Quicksave (I quicksave alot! BG style)

TAB - Cycle targets

Overall with this scheme I find the game much more playable. What's yours?

Given how often you have to spam the "search" button, I put that on ALT, so I can press it with my thumb easily while still having the normal walk controls.

As for the skills, I posted this in another topic too:
For me I used a key remapping program to simply make:

1 = Mouse wheel up

2 = Mouse wheel up + shift

3 = Mouse wheel down

4 = Mouse wheel down + shift

Etc..

(5 till 8 on other mouse buttons)

The gameplay becomes so much better when you can react fast. Especially with escape/parry moves that require perfect timing.

To be honest I can't even imagine myself playing the game with actually having to press the numerical buttons manually. It makes no sense because you use that hand for walking..

Another thing you can do with macro's/remapping programs is fast-casting:

In DA:I you have to manually click/confirm an AoE spell after you already pressed it. That's silly: I aim before I press the skill.

With a macro I can do something like this:

--------------------

  • Press 1 (for Pull of the Abyss for example)
  • Delay 40 millisecond
  • Unpress 1 (Without a very short delay the game doesn't always register the keypress)
  • Press left Mouseclick (to instantly confirm the spell where it's already aiming)
  •
  • Press 2 (for blizzard)
  • Delay..
  • Unpress..
  • Mouseclick..

----------------------------------------

What this will do is when I press a single button: I will cast a pull of the abyss, automatically confirm it where I'm aiming, and instantly cast a blizzard on top of it as well. It's the perfect combo to whipe trash. With a rift mage's talents this gives you back mana and does increased damage vs weakened as well.

1 button and that's it. Without a macro I would have to click 4 times, every time.

I've been meaning to try these remapping programs but from what I've heard it glitches up the tactical camera :(

Which ones you use?

  • I remapped my keys thus and found it a little more workable
  • E-forward
  • D-backward
  • S-turn left
  • F-turn right
  • G-pick up loot and interaction
  • W-attack
  • R-ability
  • A-ability
  • T-ability
  • Q-ability
  • Then you can map your less used abilities to 1,2,3,4 or 2,3,4,5
  • Z-search
  • X-attack my target
  • I didn't remap the tac cam key because I quit using it and also the move left move right keys I didn't bother either. I found the "W" key easier to use for attacking as its not bad holding down both "E" and "W" thus freeing up your index finger for "R" "T" abilities, "G" for looting and finally your pinky for "A" "Q" abilities.

Interesting, you actually moved away from WASD? I can never do that - I'm too used to it lol!

I used this for WoW and it made it just like playing street fighter with quick responses, it works great with this game too. I don't think I could have played it with the normal setup.

1 is Payback Strike and 2 is shield bash. The two most often used.

Nice!!!

This is quite interesting, like, for me with the WASD setup I have QE for block/dodge which I use most often. But I'm guessing you guys are all using mouse remapping programs too? I'm still scared of glitching up tac cam because if that happens I'm going to end up cursing at the game's streamlined tactics system even more

I left all the mouse keys as default. Doesn't bother me now.  I am constantly using the mouse wheel to go into tactical mode.

I left everything as default. As for the hotkeys for the ability slots, I set the 4 that I use the most to the 1-4 keys since my fingers are already right below them on WASD.

The thing I like about it is that you have that little tab on the "f" key so it makes it easier for me find during battle when I'm using my numbered abilities or changing characters, because you know those damn mages or archers just for some reason need to get too close to battle and you have to move them away from danger.

I could never use a setup like that quite frankly I'm not dexterous enough.I just would "phat finger" everything, it'd be ugly

Another nice looking layout but sadly for me it would be a fumble and bumble fest.

You have to use your after market device software to program the device to read the mouse buttons. Otherwise DA:I will not pick up many different mouse buttons.

Like UniformGreyColor, Razer Naga solved all my problems for all games that I play.

Not much changed:

- Q and E remapped for potions

- 7 remapped to Shift for dodge/roll/evade

- 8 remapped to right click for shield block/parry

- Shift remapped to alt for horse dash

- C for character sheet

- B for bag (inventory)

- R for auto-attack (my wife use it)

Everything else is default as far as I remember.

I switched Q/E and A/D as recommended. I use space for pause and control for jump. I use V for target cycle and tab for search.

I remapped abilities 4 - 8 to shift, tab, alt, Q and E.

Melee abilites that require movement keys to be effective (like whirl wind) are mapped to either shift, tab or alt, being as I can hit all those keys with either my pinky or thumb without moving a finger from melee. Abilities that aren't reliant on wasd input I map to 1 - 3, dodges and such on Q or E.

I'd rather use my mouse button for a couple of these but I don't feel like using 3rd party software for keybinds that should have been included in the game. How on earth a game released in 2014 doesn't recognize mouse buttons is ****** beyond me.

Alt - Pause

Space - Jump

Q - Autorun

E - Interact

G - Assist

F - Attack

switched A and D to strafe, turning is unbound

Number keys left unchanged because I'm using a Naga.
