Just  needed to post a few of my FAV reactions from Alistair while romancing him as HFN.

*Some END SPOILERS*

Now on my 3rd play-through, I just needed to play out some different dialogue options, just to mess with Alistair (although I just ADORE him)  I just play through but don't save and reload - don't want to loose his affection

I just love when Alistair makes his 'acceptance' speech after Landsmeet (after choosing him as King and I to rule alongside him), he is nervous and babbles a bit, then you receive the dialogue option- 3. Just shut up and put the crown on already! He turns to look at you and says 'Makers Breath!"......I almost wet myself. I think I replayed that 3 times! Someone needs to post that on 'youtube' if not already on it.

The other I just needed to try comes after the previous scenario:

Alistair enters the 'room' and begins speaking to my PC ....'So, strange story. Tell me if you heard this one'....'They'll expect an heir, you know'..... I just needed to choose dialogue option 1. Maybe, not YOUR heir. His reaction is just priceless - 'Oh, that's a cheery thought'. Then I receive a -15 disapproval. Luckily, I was already at a LOVE +100 approval and still had at least 3 of his gifts to boost myself back up after that one.

Would love to hear from others romancing Alistair that have chosen the 'mean' dialogue options just to mess with him. ****We NEED more Alistair in Awakening and other DLCs. The game just will not be the same without him either as a companion or NPC that allows plenty of romance dialogue/scenes.<3<3<3

I was playing around with things last night when he talks about Goldanna, gives you the rose and the dialogue where he asks if you'll miss all the fighting and darkspawn and what not.

One of my favorite dialogue choices - when he says he wants to see someone in Denerim, you can ask "This isn't some former lover of yours, is it?" He stammers and says "What, you think I would...with you? Together? No!" Its very cute.  If you ask "Do you have a friend outside the Grey Wardens?" he says "Well, not a friend, exactly.  And no, not that kind of friend either, if that's what you're thinking."

If you ask him if he thinks of you as a gentle flower when he gives you the rose, he says "Well, not gentle exactly" or something to that effect. I need to look that one up, it was cute.

The conversation where he asks you if you could care about him, you can take some MAJOR hits in approval. If you tell him he's very funny at that point, its something like -77. I forget the other option I picked that earned me a -55. Poor Alistair! From love right back down to indifference.

The "just shut up and put the damn crown" is there even if you're male. I couldn't resist not to click it.

There are a lot of cases when you can tease him.... I play as a male so I will only post "friend teasing" if you don't mind :P

Alistair "Look before we go into the village I'd like to say something"
Warden " Let me guess, you're an idiot."

Alistair" You know I've been thinking"
Warden " Such a rare event is worth informing me of, sure"

Shale: Order me to do something
Warden: Fine. Attack Alistair
Alistair: He-ey!

And a lot more I can't even remember :D

One of my favorites is during the conversation after he joins you in your tent.

(paraphrasing)

Alistair: "Have I told you that I love you? I did? Well, it won't kill you to hear it again."

PC: "No, but I might kill you."

Alistair: "Mood spoiler."

It's all in how he says it.

When you give him his mother's amulet there are options for the conversation to make it out like the thing is just some meaningless trinket. There's no reason to do that besides to be a jerk, but I do it half the time anyway.

You can take him on some fun emotional rollercoasters- like during the Choose Him/Her or Me conversations (from nervous, to relieved, to happy, to heatbroken in like 90 seconds!) or when he's breaking up with you after the Landsmeet (this works best if he's hardened and you convince him to keep you on as his mistress).

I think my favorite is when the cutscene you get after he hits Love, if you've already slept with him.

Alistair: You're the first woman I've ever spent the night with and, if I have my way, you'll be the last.
PC: Must you always be so sentimental?
Alistair: Just what every man wants to hear when he says that.
PC: All right, you win. I feel the same way.
Alistair: (mock enthusiastically) Yay! I won!

*grin* if you tell him, "not YOUR heir" while at 100 friendly, he just says, "Should I be glad about that?  I suppose I should."  -5. What he doesn't like in that circumstance is being told, "It's just an arrangement.  Don't get any ideas." -10.  Poor Alistair.  I am so mean to him :(

I don't think I've ever seen this in an Alistair squeal thread, so I'll mention that I love his "Creeeepy" line. He says it numerous times, with a great variation in Honnleath, something like "and the villagers didn't know they were being watched... that defines creeepy." *smooch*

If he invited you to the tent, you don't get this.  This triggers after the PC successfully seduces him.

(When Alistair presents the rose to The Warden)

Alistair: Here, look at this. Do you know what it is?

Warden: Your new weapon of choice?

Alistair: Yes, that's right! Watch as I thrash our enemies with the mighty power of floral arrangements! Feel my thorns, darkspawn! I will overpower you with my rosy scent!

This is hilarious - especially the way he says it.

Better luck next time.  Posted Image  It is sweet, in a way, but it is in the context of Alistair reminding you that he's probably going to be king and giving your PC a chance to back out of the relationship.  Notice that he does this only after you've been in the sack, whether by your invitation or his.  One of the moments you realize Alistair's combination of cluelessness and selfishness, which makes him a more realistic character rather than a plastic romantic hero.  I know others have different opinions, but my read on late-game Alistair is him pulling back a bit from his PC squeeze after a very warm courtship build-up, in contrast to the Zevran romance which doesn't really get going until later on.

I just went through the entire redcliff/ashes sequence not knowing Alistair was king -- but woke Arl Eamon and learned that way. Wow, the "where's it going talk" was absolutely brutal when he knows Eamon is going to put him up at the landsmeet as the heir. I actually liked Alistair more after that. Didn't stop my character from dumping him for Zevran, but that's pretty standard for me anyway. How sad. The whole courtship . . . built on dreams of his he knows may very well be impossible. Very, very sad.

You can get out of the relationship with no hit if he propositions you first and you decline on the grounds that he's going to be king, so it's not just after he's slept with the PC.

Yes but he doesn't bring it up until after he's bedded you.

This conversation can be had with either Alistair and there are two ways it can begin.

1. If you have not slept with him and he approaches you, you can decline on the grounds that he is going to be king.

2. If you've initiated the sex already, once you do his personal quest he should roll over from Adore to Love.  The next time you're at camp, he'll start talking like he's propositioning you, but then he'll say the thing about "being the first woman I've ever spent the night with, and if I have my way you'll be the last." You can also bring up him being king at that point.

If he's hardened, he'll say "If that's what it has to be, that's what it has to be" and then he offers you an out.  If he's not hardened, he'll say "You have to know how much I love that idea" and he offers you an out.

You don't have to end the relationship at this point, and you can still ask him to your tent if you decline his initial proposition.

Actually, if Alistair is in love, breaking up with him is pain free, even if you dump him for Zevran, as long as you tell Zev first and are decent to Ali. Compare that to the huge approval loss if you break up with Zevran for Ali. (smaller loss when you talk to Ali, much bigger when you talk to Zev).

The Zevran romance is worth trying at least once, and going to the end (which can't be done if you're romancing both of them -- it truly does not end at the earring being offered).

Oh you should, it is every bit as special as the PC/Alistair romance, probably more so.

Whether I am romancing him or not, when we get to Arl Eamon's estate in Denirim, I click Ali over and over just to hear him say "I havent been here for a while. They've changed the dining room!" I don't know what it is about that line (well, I do, it's SV's wonderful intonation) but it has me simultaneously swooning and giggling.

My first playthrough I romanced Alistair before I even knew there was a romance option in the game. But then I tried the Zevran romance.......Zevran all the way baby from now on.

I was a little shocked that you can dump Alistair and get as little as nothing taken off your approval rating from him, but I've lost as much as 54 points when dumping Zevran.

I find that Alistair's romance is idealized, childish, selfish, and clueless all rolled into one package.

While Zevran's is misleading, you THINK it's all shallow, but it's not, esepcailly by endgame.

It's so much more heartbreaking dumping Zevran.....how well he takes it, the absolutely crushed look on his face, and then the huge approval hit.....*owie*
