Heterosexual white male here (doesn't get any better, just ask Louis CK), but I sincerely hope they'll make a game with nothing but gay companions, except one...
Who 'after the fact' tells you she used to be a man.
That'll teach you.

I don't care who's banging who, so long as they aren't preachy about it. They got that way with Krem and Iron Bull, but they didn't force my character to agree with what they said, so I didn't care really.
I go through that and then remember the conversations with Sten in DA:O.
"Why would women ever wish to be men?"
They don't wish to be men, they wish to be women who fight.
It seems like the story has changed since Origins. As Sten so aptly put it, "One of these things cannot be true."
Queer people exist and ought to be represented, end of story. Whether it makes some people uncomfortable is utterly irrelevant.
This. Thank.
Also i gotta love posts like "i'm fine as long as they don't talk about their sexualities a lot" (meaning gay/bi ofc), whereas straights do that all the time and nobody realizes it. Hilarious.

Yep they did flip the script on the Qunari. Sten clearly says that to them, women cannot be fighters, if they could, they'd be men. But he was clear in that he didn't mean they could actually become men. Because he says as much, really. He also says before that "A farmer is never the merchant, he is always the farmer become a merchant."
So they definitely changed the lore around a bit. That's what really got on my nerves about the Krem thing.
Krem *is* a man though. He might not have the equipment but he is a man.
I'm sorry, but I feel these poll choices are done poorly, particularly the positive ones. I honestly could have picked any of the three positive ones and they all would have been applicable to my feelings on the subject.
- Yes, strongly believe that their games should portray all sexualities.
- I like the diversity BioWare portray in their games, this includes sexuality.
- I thoroughly enjoy knowing that there are non-heterosexual characters in their games.
Also, I don't really feel that the gender gated option is applicable, or at least there should be other considerations that can't be included in a simple poll. In DA2 where there was no gender gating we only had four romance options. In this game we have fully double the number at eight. That is a significant difference that needs to be accounted for when discussing this issue.
I don't expect my one sentence options to match a person's opinion 100%, perhaps just give the reader a general idea? I'm more interested in just comparing the male and female results.

Yea, I don't buy any of that.
This thread is not going to end well. Just saying.
Fair enough. I don't really wanna know how many homophobes we have on the boards.
I chose the "yay ghey" option, for what it's worth.
Agreed. I kind of hate the idea that we need to justify our inclusion through popular voting. It's why I 100% oppose marriage equality ballot measures. I don't give a **** what other people think about whether my equality/inclusion is important. It is. Period. I shouldn't have to rely on the kindness of strangers to get my equality/inclusion. It should be given like everyone else's.
That being said, I'm glad to see that the poll is ridiculously lopsided in favor of the representation of non-hetero sexuality. The 6 or 7 people who voted against it are likely surprised to see that they are so far behind popular opinion.
I think you have put too many options there, there was three that fit to my opinion since they were too similar. "Yes, I strongly believe their games should portray all sexualities", "I like the diversity Bioware portray in their games, this includes sexuality" and "I througly enjoy knowing that there are non-heterosexual characters in the game". I picked diversity option in the end but I could pick every option of those three.
Also agreed. I get why the OP did it (it's like a way wordier Likert scale), but it's so vaguely worded that I also could have picked any of those three and been fine. I ultimately went with the "strongly believe" because I (correctly, I think) sussed out that this was the farthest "left" opinion that I could get.

Lol on these forums? I doubt it.
Nobody's selling you anything. It's just how it is.
I'm not going to get into it since this always opens a can of worms with people, but I'm just going to leave it as I've come to a different conclusion.
I just checked the numbers. With 147 votes in, there are only 6.8% opposed to it, 8.8% "true neutral", and 84.4% in favor of it. That's a huge difference.
I agree.Krem *is* a man though. He might not have the equipment but he is a man.

"Male - I'm true neutral. I don't particularly care for the portrayal of any sexuality in video games."
Why is Krem being discussed here? We don't even know his sexuality.
His gender identity is not his sexuality. Unless he's been confirmed as bisexual or gay, then I don't see why he's relevant to a conversation about non-hetero characters.....?
They're rather closely related if you ask me, that's why it's the LGBT community, and not the LGB community.

The question isn't about gender identity. It's about sexual orientation. We don't know Krem's sexual orientation. The question isn't about LGBT characters.
You may as well say we're talking about faith, not religion. They're rather tied.
But anyway, I've already said my piece. I don't care who is or isn't represented in games, so long as the representation doesn't come with an agenda, life lesson, or is preachy in general. I think it'd serve those seeking to be represented to not bring it up in a special light at all, and just present it as something run of the mill.

Your gender identity determines your sexual orientation. If you are attracted to ladies and your gender identity is male, then you are straight. Since this question is about sexual orientation, Krem isn't relevant to it since we know his gender identity, but not his sexual orientation. It's an important distinction that you seem bound and determined to dismiss. Perhaps it's because you don't see the difference, but I'm trying to explain it to you.

I know the difference, I simply don't see a need to leave it out of discussion as they're very closely related. I don't need you to explain anything to me.
I agree.
Sten, on the other hand, does not. Or is it that femWarden does not get the same respect because she doesn't bind her breasts?
You know, I really don't care what the Qun teaches. Go either way with the story; it does not matter. The retcon seemed disjointed and to me just shows a PC attempt at inclusion.
Don't get me wrong, I love Krem's character. I mean I'm pretty butch myself and asked myself those same questions when I was younger (you don't need to know how long ago that was ... sheez, I'm getting old) but I feel like the flip-flop in lore was just a pity ****.
OK, I'll shut up now. Thank you, Bioware, for including a character I can associate with no matter why they are there.
Female Warden identifies as a woman, and says she's a woman.
If she said "but I'm a man," and looked (so to speak, cut her hair/bound her bosom) somewhat like a man, Sten would accept her as a man. But since female warden is arguably feminine, he questions why she fights.
Not that hard to grasp Krem being accepted.
How is Krem preachy though? He alludes to it once, fairly casually, and the only way you get anything more is if you're like WHAT IS THIS I DONT UNDERSTAND???
Anyway, Dave is right, he's not applicable to this thread and you said you didn't want to talk more, so I'll shush.
Which I did, lol. Considering that'd be my character's first time encountering this, he'd be like "What are you two smoking?" lol.
