Mass effect had a very effective wheel. I liked the wheel. We could use the same wheel for those three little potions slots too. Imagine that. A wheel! Put them on the damn wheel just like ME. Genius! Then I have quick access to all my primary ones but if I want a few different ones then they get pulled up on the wheel. And for PC they just make them like they were in the last games. How hard can that be? As I understand they deliberately decided to give only eight just as they deliberately decided to have only 8 potions for four characters. I think someone has a thing for the number eight. Perhaps it's some sort of psychological fear that if it's not eight the game will fail and so now we are doomed until the end of time or this person is no longer with the company to have eight be the number for everything they do.
WANT MORE SKILL SLOTS !

You can bump this thread for the rest of eternity, Bioware's not going to read it and be like, "Oh, you wanted more skill slots? My bad. Here's a patch for it."
I'm sure they'll fix some things with time. But this one, I expect the modding community to come up with something before Bioware addresses it.

This is my major gripe with the combat system. Please allow us to use all the skills we've learned.

After I plug-in a controller ... I realize.... 8 Skill Slots only because: The game is designed for controllers!!!
Try... errr.... walking your character..... can't!!... controller only!! (that's why I plugged one in). Proof that controller design can/does destroy gaming design
Nope, the previous games UI for controllers had a radial menu toggle pausing the game. The menu gave you access to all your skills. With the next gen you have even more options with the PS4 touchpad, Farcry 4, for exemple, as a similar radial menu than the other DA games but it uses the touchpad as a touch interface making it both easier and quicker to use.
Bioware only need to use their brain and give us credit for having one.

An easy fix to this is to keep the 8 slots, but add three buttons on the side that switch the set of 8 slots to another set. So you'll have 3 sets of 8 slots to cycle through. Sort of like Super Mario Bros. 3 on the world map when you get a lot of power-ups and you can cycle through the items.

Probably a console port a bit too much reflected as such on the PC (idk how the first two games work on console.)

Previous console versions had similar shortcuts PLUS a radial menu (toggle or not, your choice) giving quick access to all your skills.
This is not a console port issue, it's a global design choice. It's baffling as new gen controllers offer more options than before for input solutions.

For PC, sure but I don't see how you could map even more skills to the controller. That's the reason for the 8 skill limit.
You need to overcome that limitation if you want to advocate for skills.

Eh, I've said in other threads I personally don't see the need for more slots - mainly because there are a lot less abilities you activate in this game than the others, and most of the abilities serve similar functions anyway. I'm not sure I understand why someone would need access to Sleeping Powder, Sleeping bomb, Stealth, Dodgeroll, Cloak of Shadows, and Leaping Shot all at a moment's notice. They all serve a similar "get out of harm's way" role IMO.
Not to say I think that there's any reason why we can't have a radial menu with our other abilities. I just personally don't think it's as necessary as many people have been claiming. Especially since IIRC it would take a minimum of something like 11 levels for a rogue to even fill up the 8 slots they have. You would be halfway done leveling up before you would even start to make use of more slots.

Again I can play the game with 8 slots but it just isn't fun esp. if you are a mage. 2 slots are occupied by focus skills (KE mage) that leaves with only 6 slots. fade step no brainer, then barrier spell -> which means 4 slots are preoccupied. Now i have only 4 remaining. Being a KE mage got to take spirit blade -> now i have only THREE fracking slots and a ton of abilities. So why do I want more skill slots or radical menu ??!!
For a rogue 8 skill slots are fine least it was for me but for my mage it is just tooo frustrating and not fun.
If Bioware cant officially make a patch to add radical menu or more skill slots, then they could at least make a mod and release that unofficially.

Is not about making a full rotation of spells, is about having choice in combat. If my entire skill bar is filled with fire spells and I come across with a fire-resistant guy, my character is pretty much useless. The same goes for the other two classes, sometimes a specific skill is ineffective against a specific threat and you could use instead another skill, but you can't because your skill bar is already full.
We could choose any skill in combat in previous games, why we can't do it now?
That's what you get for only having one type of damage.

I've played a KE, never felt the need to have more than 8 skills. (I ditched Mark of the Rift at some point though)

Yeahh, if you ever try to mix the skill from different tree, you will realize that the skill slots are not enough.
You play KE, maybe the skills you need are only in the KE and spirit tree

Switching out spells is time consuming and it becomes frustrating and boring. + there are lyrium potions and mana regenerates fast for me or it feels like that way.
Playing video games is time consuming as well.

So you are basically saying that I can't specialize my character the way I want. I have to be always a Jack of all trades. Where's the freedom of choice of the RPG then? Just because it is okay for you it doesn't mean it's okay for everyone else.

I don't think you should be playing games if you complain about the lack of space in your skill slots. Different priorities for different types of people.
