I have no idea if this is possible (someone call me out on it if it isn't, I'll share a laugh in how much time I wasted writing up this post), but I'd love a DLC that opened up more romance options.

For me, romance in a game is always a big part of the immersion. However, the current romance options have left me very much in the wanting. I'm sure I'm with the majority of hetero males when I say I like a feminine woman. Now, don't go bashing me saying that you love Cassandra. To each their own, I acknowledge that, but I just don't find her attractive, and I definitely know I'm not the only one who doesn't. Josephine is feminine, sure, but her design is... interesting, to say the least. Needless to say, I don't find her very captivating either. Gay males got Dorian, straight females got Cullen, but straight males and lesbians have little and far between. Of course there are people who do like the options given, but I wouldn't bother with this thread if I hadn't seen quite a few people of similar opinion to me. I am speaking as much for them as I am for myself.

I would love to be able to romance Leliana or Morrigan (Morrigan plz lol). But I get that they were romance options in DA:O, so I can see why BioWare would prefer to keep away any "baggage" that romancing them would bring. Thing is, I only started playing Dragon Age when Inquisition was released and was announced Game of the Year. So there is no baggage for me, and I'm also not alone in that one either. Hence, making a DLC for these romance options, so that it isn't forced on veterans of the series who wouldn't want to have that confusion of romancing a love interest from a previous game.

I understand that realism is of deadly importance in games like this and the characters were designed with this focus, but come on; in a fantasy RPG, you should be able to at least have the OPTION to romance some ridiculously good-looking characters (in fact, I'd pay good money to have that option). It IS fantasy, isn't it? :)

Personally i found Cassandra attractive and her romance reasonably interesting(though less interesting than romances in previous games). i'll concede that i found their choice of hetrosexual female romances odd but a lot of that seems to be down to gender gating meaning female romance type were severely limited. Personally i'm not in favour of romance DLC unless there's a story specific character of the ilk of Tallis from Mark of the Assassin. Hoping the next game will cater better in regards of its offering is where i'm at.

The thing about such a DLC is that it wouldn't be intrusive on those who already like the options. Also, BioWare stated that they would not add any more characters through DLC or anything else. My suggestion would be merely to open up more characters in the game for romance.

Okay I can't help it since it's the obvious answer (and I'm usually never this early to a thread)... if you want to romance Morrigan and/or Leliana why not play DA:O? It's actually a really good game too IMHO.  ;)

Seriously though you've already admitted Bioware have said no to Morrigan and Leliana just as they said no to new characters in DLC so you might need some other suggestions. Scout Harding would be popular for many.

That said I'd like a DLC that expands on all the current companions and advisers romance or not. Story and characters tend to be my fav part of bio games so expanding them is always something I'm for.  :)

I agree with the above - go and play DAO if you want Morrigan and Leliana romanced (seriously worth it!).  :)

I hope we will get some more out of the Solas romance via DLC.  Other than that...I think I'm happy about the romance in the game (except for Cassandra and Varric not being romancable by my female!Inquisitor...never getting over that :D).  Though I wouldn't say no to something like the Citadel DLC for Inquisition ;)

I'm all for romance DLC's and would buy them in reasonable price if I like the character.

I also think these straight male gamers need to widen their horizons..

As for the "no to Leliana and Morrigan", that was not a definitive no to DLC's. Also, it only mentioned Leliana. The example you compared it to, no new characters, referred specifically to no DLC's including such. No romances with Leliana was phrased much more loosely, and I see no detriment to adding such a DLC for romance. While adding a DLC for extra characters could be taken for having to pay extra to truly get the "full experience" of the game, a romance DLC would be completely expansion only for those who wanted it. A lot of people would be willing to buy such a DLC, from what I've seen.

You calling me narrow minded? D:

Look, I tried to make it as clear as possible in my initial post that I have absolutely nothing against people who do like the available romances. It is purely preference. As for the "majority" bit, it is a fact that a lot of men like femininity in women. I probably could have worded that a little better, that's my bad.

But you cannot deny, there are a lot of people out there who would prefer other options for romance. I mean, when I first searched up DA:I romances, one of the top Google suggestions was "ugly". This is why I'm trying as hard as possible to suggest it as a DLC, so that the romances can accommodate without being intrusive to anyone's personal gameplay.

I personally am against romance content as a DLC.  Frankly, the writers have made all the romances they care to for this game.   I think it's a bad idea to make a romance DLC just because some folks are upset.  And not to mention, it isn't going to happen.  David Gaider, Patrick Weeks and Mike Laidlaw have all mentioned in the past they will not add content just for the sake for a romance.

If you notice, those "ugly" threads were made by a handful of loud, angry, self-affirmed straight men that think Cass "looks like a man," and Josie is ugly...somehow (yes, some of those remarks got quite racist, sadly.)

What's really funny is that women don't care even nearly as much, so this would be for the benefit of a small group of straight men only.  See, I've talked a lot of straight men on the forums that adore Josie and Cass, and think they are both lovely.

Last night, someone started a very amusing thread.  In the OP, he put up a picture of Howe and a picture of Loghain as seen in Origins.  S/he asked the ladies of the thread how we would feel if we had only two romance options that looked like them, and "let's hear the rage people."By page two, it had turned into a Loghain/Garrus appreciation thread.  It became obvious very quickly that women overall care a lot less about the looks of their LIs then men do.

And while I have seen requests such as this from women, it's very rare.  I've seen...two or three threads since August mentioning the looks of the male LIs.  When the male LIs are brought up in a thread in a negative manner, you'll notice that it almost always for story reasons.  Rarely do you see the straight lady players call the LIs ugly.

So I'm not sorry if a few straight guys whine that Cassandra is "mannish" and Josie is "ugly."  I find Cass wonderful, and Josie a sweetheart.  I also think they are quite beautiful.   Plus, anyone that thinks Cass really looks like a man has yet to see her romance scenes.

Not to mention Gaider doesn't have exactly any empathy for the minority of straight men that aren't liking their LIs.

"Let us all hang our heads in melancholic commiseration for those who must endure the presence of insufficiently feminine women. They are the unsung heroes among us."

Oh and before anyone mentions the extra options for straight women, sure you get four if you play a female elf.  For a female human, you get three.  If you're a dwarf or Qunari fan (me,) you get two.  Same as everyone else.

Really?  Okay...

I think folks are talking about wanting some type of Origins DLC, where they can play their backstory.  That's a lot different than what you're asking.  For the record, I don't think that's going to happen either.

First off, the writers will be the first to ask: Do you want more story for your DLC, or do you want more romance?  They have this thing called a word budget, which allows for X amount of words for a game/DLC.  In a normal game, they have a small amount allotted to romances.  In a DLC, where the word budget is even smaller, they aren't going to waste what they have available for a fully fleshed out romance.  I'm sure your current LI will have some comments, but I doubt there'll be much detailed romance content.

You're free to tweet and ask though.  Also, I'm betting I can guess what the general audience might prefer.  The folks that don't lurk on the BSN/tumblr/facebook talking about the game all the time.

So we know it's not likely due to the word budget.  What about animation time and cost?  Well...

Do you have the idea of the amount of animation it would take to create a romance?  It takes a lot.  It's harder than you think, considering that you'll be working with two models at least.  Also, would they be for straight men only or will they be available to bi/lesbian players as well?  After all, not every lesbian is thrilled to have Josie or Sera are their only choices.  They don't complain about Sera's looks, but I've seen plenty that don't like her for story reasons.

Any gating?  It's because you're asking the animations to make sure that four models are correct.  If there's gating, are you limiting it to human only or do you want to make sure other male races have the same chance?  Will there be kissing while standing up?  Any scenes with the characters holding each other, or lying next to each other topless.  Dude, these are the very real and very boring questions that the animators would have work with in order to get this done.

Also, among the ladies, who's left?  They aren't going allow Morrigan or Leliana to be romance, so that's out.  Vivienne?  I don't think the writers have that in store for someone that is still grieving just for the player to romance.  I suspect they're saving Harding for another game, but she's not for everyone either.  I'd heard plenty of insults flung in her direction.

Also, I am opposed to the developers taking out time and resources that could go to a story DLC for romance.  If you have to question why I want more story (which is content that can be enjoyed by everyone) over romance content (that is only intended for a small group of straight men that claim to be unhappy,) I don't think we'll ever see each other's point.

I have about as much empathy as David Gaider does for those that think Cass or Josie are ugly:

"Let us all hang our heads in melancholic comisseration for those who must endure the presence of insufficiently feminine women. They are the unsung heroes among us." --David Gaider

I didn't say it.. I said "need to widen their horizons". Well quite same outcome I guess, other is just worded in nicer tone.

Yea that just proves it. They call the current options "ugly" cause they are.. narrow-minded. It's extremely unlikely that you will mind your exact type in the game and that they will be available for you if you play only as one gender and one sexuality. Most close to my type would be Dorian in the game so I will roll gay male Inquisitor for him. I also don't mind romancing someone who is not my type.

Yes, I'm aware of animation requirements, and I'd appreciate it if you took a little bit of condescension out of your tone.

All that aside, I can see what you mean. You see no reason for such a DLC to exist, I get that. I started this thread in hope of some support for the idea, seems I was sorely mistaken. It was just an idea, after all. Chill a bit, alright? ;)

Forgive the tone, but I was honestly trying to educate you.  A lot of the frustration you picked up on comes from hearing requests like this for months, so I apologize if I came off snappish.  I'm down for DLC ideas, but not that one.  There is so much else they could do.   The Stinger after the end credits is just begging for a story based DLC.  "Hunt for the Dread Wolf" or something like that.

I would like an appearance DLC pack for the player myself as a start.  They are talking about adding a feature similar to the Mirror of Transformation in this game, which is going to be sweet.   :)

The "obvious answer" was half serious, half joking, it's actually what I would have expected to see in a longer thread, though I really do stand by it in the sense that DAO is fun and a great place to meet and romance Morrigan and Leliana (for males, as a lesbian I just romanced Leliana and was really happy with that).

Sorry, I thought from your post you'd seen that they've already said no they will not make previous romances available to new pcs... during the announcement of the LI's Mike Laidlaw explained that it wasn't something they would explore period.

Personally I'd want story DLC that also expands the characters/existing romances and you could count me as a lesbian not... satisfied with my options. Sera I find difficult to like story wise and Josephine has a plot element that jars with the world lore from a f/f perspective to me so if they explained that in a DLC as part of more story that would be nice. I like Josephine's character and looks I just have a logic issue.

To be fair btw the OP did include lesbians with straight males as having the least options so I'm guessing he meant a DLC to include us too which is kinda nice.

Wait... Harding gets insults? Wow... next it'll be Dagna, that's just baffling.

Also DLC that fixes Skyhold, adds mirror of transformation, alternate to pjs as casual clothes, more/improved hair and so on would be nice and I think I read somewhere that they are looking into the mirror at least.

Personally find the game short of story content outside the main quests and full of makework. So for me story DLC is badly needed.

Cosmetic DLC isn't something that really appeals to me and whilst i was an advocate of ME3 DLC addressed overlooked existing romances i'm less convinced it should be a central focus in DAI.
