I've briefly tried rogue (daggers) and rouge (archer)
I enjoy the archer class but don't know how epic the archer class can be?
Also tried the quanri soldier..
any suggestions?

There is a person who did an Archer with Assassin specialization who completed the game Solo. That's how epic the Archer can be. In terms of specializations, I think all of them can be used by the Rogue Archer. But if I were to choose I'd probably go with Tempest.
But if you want to be something different, I'd pick Archer Assassin. My thinking in General is that I want to be something different from the companions for the Game.
Cole is a Dagger Assassin.
Sera is an Archer Tempest
Varric is an Archer Artificer.
If I were to make a unique combination for myself, I would probably have these options:
Dagger Tempest
Archer Assassin
Dagger Artificer
This is based on my preference, if I went with a rogue. The Dagger Artificer is something I can't imagine yet - my impression of it is that you will trap mobs and pick them off from a distance.
I actually went with a Warrior, using the same process. I'm going to go with a Shield Reaver (versus Bull's 2H default build). In fact the default Tanks of the party, I'm planning to make 2H Champion and 2H Templar to make them different.
For mages, I think you can mix /concentrate on certain trees and build your party mages differently. But I think as a general rule you'd want your mages able to adjust to a certain element to utilize enemy vulnerabilities. For instance you want Solas to be your AOE Nuker or something, or Dorian to be more CC. I was rather disappointed by mages in DA 2 so I took a pass on them first.
Well that's my idea of selecting my character for the game, breaking the mold.

We got 3 classes, and we got a team of partymembers. A well balanced party consist of:
A Rogue. Most likely archer. Varric, Sera or Cole.
A Mage. Most likely support. Solas is best.
A Warrior. Most likely a tank. Cassandra for buffs, Blackwall for offense and defense.
You. Whatever you want to be. If you want to be a tank, trade out the warrior for whatever.
Of the 3 classes, there are a few playstyles.
Rogues - Dual Wield classic rogue or Archer
Warrior - 1 handed and shield or 2 handed
Mage - Damage focuses or control focused
Further on, each class got 3 specializations where 1 in each class changed the playstyle. Each companion gets 1 of these, so you can try them all out. You may decide 1 for your class, and this is a final choice.
Rogue - Tempest, Assassin and Artificer
Mage - Knight Enchanter, Rift Mage and Necromancer
Warrior - Reaver. Templar and Champion
To put it short:
Tempest - Changes the playstyle. Control on the battlefield. Not stealth-focused.
Assassin - enforced stealth play. Damage and stealth.
Artificer - Alter stealth play. Traps and stealth.
Knight Enchanter - Changes playstyle. Melee-mage. Immortal.
Rift mage - Enforces the spellslinger playstyle. Control focused.
Necromancer - Adds more damage. DoT damage. Utility/dot focused.
Reaver - Changes playstyle. Damage focused. Rewards low health. Got the only on-demand healing ability in the game(Only works for you).
Templar - Adds combo and control to the base warrior. Support/Combo focused.
Champion - Adds nothing in terms of gameplay. Tank focused.
From a difficulty perspective they are all very simple. The only class with a learning curve is the DW Rogue. It can be difficult if you are not a very strategic person, or somebody who can make decisions and analyze the battlefield on the fly. The easiest is the archer and 2h warrior. Just use your abilities as they are ready.
From a fun perspective there is a bit of a difference, though I guess the definition of fun varies. Tempest Rogue has warmed many heart with its playstyle. Fast paced and chaotic. The Artificer Archer in an optimized team is my favorite, as it turns my archer into a gattling gun. Though, believable so, it seem the mage holds the majority of players. Mostly because a Mage can do everything. Control, damage, support and just mess with your enemies. 30% weakness debuff, pulling enemies, raising dead enemies and putting down mines. Lots of goodies.
From a efficency perspective there isn't much to say. Gear > Class in this game. Every single class and spec can faceroll Nightmare difficulty at one point or another. Some requires more planning and gear, some do it from the get go. Everything works. I can personally advocate that every single class does perfectly fine at low level (1-12) on Nightmare. All the builds I have written have been used by me, and they all work.
In terms of race it's very simple.
1) Do you plan to minmax and play as efficiently as possible? if yes, go Qunari for damage or Dwarf for tank.
2) Don't care about it, and just want to have fun? Go with whatever looks the best.
