Just wondering why they were removed, they looked great and seemed to work perfectly.  Has anyone heard why they were scrapped?

No good reason has been given. Which is annoying because you could meelee people if they got too close.

Whats the point of a staff blade if you cant stick it in someone?

It's kind of funny that they basically reuse the same staff animation from DA2 and leave out that part.

Likely from making the mechanics that are now involved in the end of the staff's chain (the triple shot) easier to do. A melee chain would have to be its own thing, with different advantages.

I really like to use my mage as a melee character if at all possible. It was awesome being able to do that as an Arcane Warrior in DA:O

Cool? I thought DA2 mages were just pole dancers.

That's what is seemed like to me. Plus, if you played a mage you got stuck with Carver, what an annoying little twit, couldn't tolerate him long enough to do the mage playthrough.

Well I say, the dance magic has to stop altogether, all the silly animations with basic attack, all of them. Bring back solemnity and epicness to the magic caste.

IMO, they kept too much of DA2 mages. It should have been scraped entirely. The twirling and slamming the staff into the ground is just silly and the combat looks like a magic weapon, not casting of spells.

You mean where it looks like the mage is poking a carcass with a stick?

Yeah I miss the melee animations as well. When I first saw adding a blade was an optional modification I thought perhaps that was what would make it happen, but nope.

I like the casting - it's obviously over the top but has great flair. What I think they really missed besides staff melee strikes is having us actually use our damn spell books. The Venatori/Rebel Mages all do some cool stuff with theirs - why does mine only ever sit on my hip?

Would love when casting Energy Barrage if you had the book floating in front of you and the rune that spits the spell out flips up out of the pages, etc.
