I agree; i think it causing the scales to literally just burn away means its powerful ;P

That's an engine thing, tbh. Those same scales are there later on.

Though the Clarel thing is valid, don't forget Morrigan in the Sacred Ashes trailer. Even though the other companions distracted it and did a bunch of ****, it was still pretty healthy before she obliterated it's eyeballs. She could have probably solo'd it. Then she also put in work with walking bomb, spider form, etc (too bad the shapeshifter spec didn't feel as badass in-game. now we NEED Morrigan as a companion with the spec upgraded!)

On the topic of soloing dragons... Yeah... Viv for gameplay purposes, but I'm not certain they're supposed to be that strong in-universe. Perhaps, however, as Arcane Warrior was just as OP.

Pretty sure Flemeth > Corphish. She just never seemed particularly bothered by him, even know his identity and how he received the means to do what he did. I always got the sense that if she REALLY needed to be rid of him, it wouldn't be a particularly difficult matter. But then again, the dark future in Hushed Whispers exists, so who knows.

Morrigan for now, but when the people who write the books see Morrigan I'm sure they'll find a way to make Fiona shape shift into two dragons and a squadron of griffons.

Thus far, Flemeth.  In the future?  Probably one of the elven God-Tyrants.

Gaider? I think he may know already.

Flemeth, so far no one comes close.

Morrigan is only powerful if you allow her to be. Since I didn't import the game the first time, she basically didn't get the old God baby and didn't drink from the well. Also, being the most powerful would eliminate anyone that drink from the well since the person who control you would be more powerful like Solas or Flemeth.

She punched a hole through the gut of a high dragon.

._.

What exactly were the highlights of BOTH those characters now?

Heh.

Thought so.

I think some of that had to do with the range and mechanics of the blast.  Kinda like the holding a firecracker in an open hand vs a closed fist.  She was lying on the ground directly below it, the energies had no where else to go, and probably obliterated her in the process.  I think it's one of those "most mages could do this, and die doing it just like she did." I still think she's strong, just not "irreverently trumps all dragons" strong.

I don't recall saying anything to indicate i view her as the strongest mage to ever walk Thedas.

I do however say though; These people are hoisting folks who turn into dragons over a lady who literally blew a hole through a high dragon.

That said i will supremely disagree with the assessment "most mages could do this" Most mages couldn't probably even generate half the energy needed to form that much energy first off, then direct and use it as a weapon?

Sure it was pretty much blunt force energy, but the sheer scale and force it likely required a massive amount of willpower for it to not just explode.

I guess... Flemeth? Solas?

If they don't count, I'm gonna say Morrigan: trained by her mother, fought against the Blight, the Archdemon and the Elder One.

If she survived that much she must be good. I would be tempted to also say Anders, but even with Justice I don't think he could match Morrigan in one of his best days.

I also think Yavana must've been quite powerful. Too bad she got a severe case of sword in the stomach.

Didn't stop Lelianna or Morrigan before.

You put such faith in a mage who did literally nothing. I don't care about how much blood appears after the spell effect. If the dragon flies off no trouble, then she did nothing that no one else has done to it.

Leliana and Morrigan both have plot armor. Especially Leliana.

Feynriel could wish Solas, Morrigan and Alexius to become kitties and they would.

Ok, maybe not, but I think that he would become the most powerful mage ever.

I haven't read the comics so I can't speak for them. Morrigan at the end of DAI if she drinks from the well is a beast. Of course if we count coreyphues he was pretty strong too.

Flemeth/Solas thingy > Corypheus > Architect > Morrigan > Anders > Dorian> Viviene and Wynne tie > Merril > Velanna

Main characters only in this one....

Flemeth/Solas thingy is #1 due to it having Solas, Flemeth, and possibly an old god soul residing in one body.... plus possible sovereignty over Morrigan.

Corypheus is #2 due to the fact that he has so much lost knowledge about magic and retains his sanity despite the taint.

Architect is #3, this was tough to put here, as we really arent sure exactly what he is.  Speculated to be the tevinter magister who served urthemial, puts him in a class with corypheus, however without his memories from that time, it puts him a tier lower than corypheus.

Morrigan is #4, sad that i had to put her here, but she is a mortal being and despite dragon fisting, i see her as more vulnerable than the other 3, so she drops to #4.

Anders is #5, hard to argue the power of an abomination that can tap into magic.  Btw, hoping for a cameo of him as an arcane horror or some other twisted figure.

Dorian is #6, he is an upper class tevinter mage.  This is enough for me, tevinter mages are some of the best trained, and though dorian denounces "blood magic," I assume, judging from his conversations, he means the demon summoning type of blood magic...  I would imagine he would use blood as a medium as long as it wasnt the heavier stuff.

Viviene and Wynne clock in at #7, experience is the winner here... plus we really dont know how old viviene truly is... especially after reading that codex entry about an age reversing potion near her area in skyhold.

Merril is #8... although I love that cute naive little bundle of fish nuggets, she is still naive... this is her biggest flaw...  the only thing keeping her from last place is the blood magic...

Velanna is last at #9...  I know you can spec her into blood mage, but story wise it just doesnt fit for me....  anyways, her anger is by far her downfall, she is far too blinded by it sometimes, i think she would tend to overuse her spells and make herself very vulnerable...  candle that burns hot melts very quickly.... on a side note, who the hell uses candles anymore?

Hmm, Corypheus? I mean, not even a PC (force mage Hawke) could pull just lifting Haven like that. I mean, the guy said he could become a god and the mage quest proves that he was right.

This is quickly turning into an "I like pie" kind of thread. Can't we just put Elven God Team aside?

I nominate Wynne. Not only is she a powerfull mage on her own, but she has that cheat spirit of faith (or whatever). In Asunder she pretty much powns a Pride Demon in its own territory.
