So today I was experimenting with the CC (I recovered from our last encounter it seems...  ), taking inspiration from this thread (mainly stop_him's "snow elf") and one of the concept arts of DAII. I wanted to create something I usually wouldn't.
I think I got the face-shape right (or is it too long?) still, her eyes seem strange, I'll change that. Also I'm thinking about a silverish eye color instead of blue, and darker vallaslin (how I originally wanted...) Opinions?

This is perfect. You've got a great job matching the concept art! I feel like the long face is what helps deviated from the classic 'pixie' elven cuteness and more into lore-friendly elegance

Nice. My Snow Elf actually has an inner iris color that is as close to silver as I can get, and then a ruddy blood red for the outer iris. In close up shots it looks really cool, but the effect doesn't show up when I take a pic with my smartphone. 

 

You can kind of see it here, but the lighting + smartphone don't really capture the effect.

Thanks! I did work hard on making her look like she did belong, lore wise and by personal choice. And now you've made me ditch a 90 hour playthrough with a human to play around with her To be fair, I used the DAI concept art for elves that I found on the wiki since the designs seem to have changed considerably since DA2.

Yeah, her ears are big, but they're supposed to be. They were the reason why she was teased whilst growing up. She sure showed those dorks by becoming a big, bad Inquisitor.

I have to agree with those who are saying that deviating too much from the expectations of elven features kind of ruins the continuity of the race when a very 'human' looking elf Inquisitor stands next to any other elf in game. 

Personally, while I was initially surprised at the change in elves' physical appearance in DA2, I was glad that they were made to look so different from humans. It took a bit getting used to, but I find them fascinating and beautiful.

In my DA II Alistair either died killing the Archdemon or was a drunk (which I never encountered in the Hanged Man for some reason). So I never saw him

Thank you! I wanted to try what you sad about making the face longer and it really works wonders, finally she looks like an adult, not a teenager! ^^
Making that face was not easy though, I had to change heavily every slider which I never did before. ^^" You'd think these exaggerated features can't look good in-game, but that's not the case at all!
I changed the eyes a bit and attempted to recreate that "tarot-card-nose". It's so hard to make it look decent, but I think I'm close.

Thanks! I was wondering about her eye color, I thought it was a dark brown. I couldn't settle on any eye color for a long time myself. I tried what you said, making the inner iris silver and the outer a different color. I was messing with the color wheel when I came across a pretty lavender color and I left it at that. I think it suits her.

I agree with you, the elves needed to be different looking then the 'shems'. In DAO, I can hardly make any difference if I can't see the ears or body height. DAII, however, handled it badly with those creepy over-sized eyes... the concept arts are nothing like that...

I can't remember where I read that DAO's elves were too human, and DAII's were TOO odd, so DAI was a strike in-between.... I did like how Merrill looked though, which seems to be the general concept for elves in Inquisition.  I've noticed that many elves in the game either have cute heart shaped or square faces (I'm thinking that first elven servant in Haven) or else elongated a-la Solas, so I've tried to lean towards the latter. Many of the presets actually have the chin size slide to be quite down (longer) rather than in the middle of that square. 

 

That said, it's all about personal preference and how pretty we can make our elves It's all a gamble of making something that looks UGLY in the CC and awesome by Haven. My first Lavellan was so sickly cute I could never make her say a rude conversation option.

This haircut seems popular, probably because it's medium-length hair that still shows she has ears...

 

I spent some time on sliders trying to remove the indentation of the bridge of the nose that is human-normal into the straighter angle that made them look unique and interesting, when they did it, and then removed in favor of "everyone has a human face."  I kind of gave up at some point and just went with what I have.  If they're serious that an in-game way of redoing your face is coming, then while there are more important issues I hope also get addressed, I'd like to give it another shot.

 

 

That's from a cinematic.  Got the bridge wider, but still not satisfied with the profile.  There's still a slight curve / indentation, but I like the longer/pointed nose I got it to that isn't a standard supermodel's cutsey button.

So I need some help. Trying to tweak an elf based loosely on a human character I made (longer, thinner face) and something's still just off. I slapped some screenies here on tumblr if anyone has any ideas. I'm OK with the elfy nose n such, it's the general face structure that's the problem.

 

I think it's the mouth or the jaw is too short or something. Urgh. I know the nose is a bit long but that's on purpose

If you want a thinner face, #2 face preset has that look. Lots of hair clipping issues there, but if you don't mind, then that preset is the best for the typical longer, slim elven face.

My most-likely-to-be-canon elven quizzy Katarina (whom I already posted to the lady inquisitor thread. I just really like her face sorry). According to my headcanons, she's 1/4 human.

The five heads are just there to show you the five facial presets.

 

Someone on another thread correctly pointed out to me that it doesn't matter which head you use, because all of them have access to the same facial presets.

 

For example, head #2, starts out with facial preset #2, which is the narrow, long-eared, long faced preset (she has the darker skin, and June's tattoo). However, head #1, 3, 4, and 5 can all be set to facial preset #2 under "General."

 

Whereas, I think facial presets #1, 3, and 4 have the fatter, stubbier ear. Facial reset #5 has a medium length ear. (I think. This is all based off memory.)

Never been a fan of the facial tattoos so I made mine with "invisible" ones.
