It's been a while since I wanted to make a gameplay video, and I saw some people having trouble with the Hinterlands Dragon fight. So I decided to take a shot at making my first video, and try to add some useful pointers in it.

I was level 14, my followers level 13. My gear is a mixture of tier 1 and 2, worth mentioning is 27% fire resist on Blackwall, and cold staves for both my mages.

Nightmare difficulty. No glitches, no exploits. No resistance potions.

Keep in mind I'm neither an expert at making videos nor a hardcore gamer, so bare with me. I hope some people will find it useful.

Comments or suggestions are always welcome!

What happens if you start the battle by running past the dragon and up the hill (where it makes its last stand), and shoot it from there? Is it doable? Honorable?

It's probably doable.

If you want to do that, you can just do it from the entrance to that area. The dragon will sit there and take damage, your followers will run in and die, then respond next to you. It will take a while though.

Level 14 and still using Tier 1 is pretty spartan. By that level I tend to have mostly Tier 3 for my Inquisitor, Tiers 2 and 3 mixed for the companions.

On my last playthrough I beat the Fereldan Frostback at level 10, pre-Skyhold (Nightmare). It took me several tries and only did it so early in the game because someone from the forums was encouraging me to do it. It wasn't fun at all. Still, having purchased many schematics from Val Royeaux, I already wore mostly Tier 2 equipment at that point.

Anyway, congrats. The Fereldan Frostback is likely the toughest dragon in the game due to its early game location and also use of terrain and minions to its advantage. The later dragons are usually much easier.

Thanks. And I spent too much time in the Hinterlands, hence the lack of upgraded gear.

This wasn't about showing off, though. I just thought it might have some useful pointers for people who are having a hard time with that dragon (there seem to be a few in these forums), and at the same time showing that you don't need high resistances or great gear to do it, it's mostly about correct positioning.

I noticed that you didn't save Sera at the end. Were you saving the health potion?
