Will i be able to run ME2 on a single core CPU? I've heard that the game won't run and you run into nasty issues. If this is true could someone tell me what kind of issues i will run into?

what speed is it? the game recommends a 2.6 dual core so i would say you would need a 3.0 or better single core to make up for that

itll run just slow

o have a 3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 so i think i make up for that, but i've read that with a single core you could run into some nasty issues...

I've got a 3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4. But i've read that Mass Effect 2 is kinda glitchy with single cores. So i want to know what to expect.

Ok that's all bull**** this game does NOT require a dual core cpu. It is very very light on the cpu usage, i use a single core Athlon 3800+ and the game runs great on 1280x1024 everything maxed.

But the OP is right, you do run in some nasty issues, and tha't entirely Biowares fault, and it's not just for singe cores. Everytime a video loads up that is not an ingame cutscene/talking/anything (basicly everything prerendered) the game starts freezing. It's a huge issue, and i think it's just a really stupid bug and don't tell me my pc can't handle it, because i have played for 4 hours and visited 2 planets and i haven't had a single fps drop except the stupid prerendered cutscene issue, which is only fixable by waiting for the game to get somewhere save-able to save and quit. After that it's ok again 'till the NEXT one. Please release some kind of a patch or a fix for that Bioware, i mean it's a really lousy and i bet EASILY fixable bug, and it's just breaking this wonderful game.

Let's all face it. WE GOT ROBBED!!!!! The same thing with The Saboteur Game. They haven't made a patch for the freezing video and the games been out for 4 months. So just put it back in the package and wait for about 3 months or getyout money back. To bad they can't be reported to the Better Business Bureau. Better yet everyone files a class action lawsuit againt them.

It wouldn't be a big deal if there was any real reason to NEED a dual core to play it. I'm running an athlon 3000+ and the only problems I have had was during certain scenes involving bink video playback (which ALSO doesn't require a dual core proc.)

you dont know how they set up threading in the game the people the wrote the software picked a target to hit and thats why there are min reqs dont like it dont buy the game but dont **** when it doesnt work right becouse you cant read multi core CPUs have been out for 5+ years get over it and upgrade your PC not Biowares fault your PC is old
dont like it go play consoles were it stays the same PC gaming is a moving target if you cant keep up its your own fault and dont say but i dont have money thats your fault if you cant afford it get a console next time

I have a dual core (Athlon 64 x2 6000+ 3.0 Ghz) but I play on one core because my fan makes less noise that way. I don't know if it's the same as playing on a single core processor but I haven't noticed any performance decrease.

Why should we upgrade, when a single core CPU does all that we want, including playing the newest games? And it does, if not for bad programming, which is the case here. This is not a question of CPU power at all.

To everyone else: BioWare said in the other thread that they'd fix this, but when that might happen is anyone's guess. They said the first patch would be coming within a few weeks, but for whatever reason it won't include a patch to this awful bug. <_< The second patch is supposed to fix it "if it's possible" (as if countless other games wouldn't play bink videos perfectly on single core CPUs). <_< But when that'll be released, they don't know yet. <_<

There's a patch coming out Feb 22 that should officially address single core users:
http://social.biowar...6/index/1318886

Otherwise...this is kinda old news but ME2 unofficially works on a single core if you use the two following fixes:

- Loading screen replacements (or the  "No Intro Fix",  but the game will freeze at the IFF mission later in the game and you'll need to restore some of the original movies): http://social.biowar...72168/47#837079
(FYI, there's a alternate No Intro Fix out there that replaces intro movies with stills instead of an ugly green box).

- Silent Hill Homecoming Single Core patch / enbseries: get this and dump contents into the 'Binaries' folder (fixes the freezes-after-prerendered-movies problem).
http://social.biowar.../index/905917/8

This has worked fine for me....my single-core system experience has been exceptional (1280x800, all effects enabled, 30+FPS using an AMD 3500+, XP SP2, 1GB DDR1 RAM, 256MB GeForce 8600GTS. HORRIBLE SYSTEM, I know). Give it a shot, it's definitely worth it!

FYI, I played through the entire game (40+ hours, game-time) without ever running into a single glitch, crash, or any "nasty issues."

Sorry to say guys, but you really should look at upgrades. A decent dual-core and board can be bought for less than $200 these days and even cheaper off ebay. My reason for saying this is developers are losing patience with their software being stolen by millions of pc users and are losing the will to create a pc title without it being a direct port from a console(where their bread is buttered these days) which are multi-core systems now. So with so much being ported from consoles is it really that hard to imagine problems running a single core when the games are made for multi-core systems.

Almost every game I have bought recently has had a dual-core as the MINIMUM REQUIRED.

I run it on an AMD athlon 2400+ 2.0 ghz single core, runs smooth, no performance issues. Using a 256-mb v-card however. The only problem is the movie bug.

There's never any necessity to alter the design of a product in order to cater to those who resist the new technology.  The established, published minimum has been named as a dual cored C2D CPU, or its equivalent from AMD.  The mere fact that there are still so comparatively many resistant wannabe gamers making noise doesn't change that.  You are supposed to READ the warning labels.

At least one Bioware employee suggested that they might look into the single core situation, and then when the first patch was announced, one of them said they had done some fixing along those lines, but the official Requirements still mean zero official tech support.  This forum is unofficial, of course.

Incidentally, for anyone on either side of the AMD / Intel CPU divider, it is a fact that AMD went much further along in improving single core performance.  Intel stopped at what amounts to be the A64 3600 CPU's performance level, and AMD had 3700, 3800, and 4000 rated CPUs beyind that point.  The AMD products also were affordable, while Intel wanted exorbitant amounts for anything they sold that ran any faster than 3.2 GHz (equivalent to an A64 3200).

Therefore, it shoyuld be expected that the higher end A64s will outperform the P4s now, the same as they did when new.

The movie bug is fixed, game has no further problems.

What is shocking actually however, is how ME2 runs at 3x the framerate of ME1... Optimisation? The fact that it's not a port? ME2 runs shockingly smooth.
