But the OP is right, you do run in some nasty issues, and tha't entirely Biowares fault, and it's not just for singe cores. Everytime a video loads up that is not an ingame cutscene/talking/anything (basicly everything prerendered) the game starts freezing. It's a huge issue, and i think it's just a really stupid bug and don't tell me my pc can't handle it, because i have played for 4 hours and visited 2 planets and i haven't had a single fps drop except the stupid prerendered cutscene issue, which is only fixable by waiting for the game to get somewhere save-able to save and quit. After that it's ok again 'till the NEXT one. Please release some kind of a patch or a fix for that Bioware, i mean it's a really lousy and i bet EASILY fixable bug, and it's just breaking this wonderful game.

To everyone else: BioWare said in the other thread that they'd fix this, but when that might happen is anyone's guess. They said the first patch would be coming within a few weeks, but for whatever reason it won't include a patch to this awful bug. <_< The second patch is supposed to fix it "if it's possible" (as if countless other games wouldn't play bink videos perfectly on single core CPUs). <_< But when that'll be released, they don't know yet. <_<

Otherwise...this is kinda old news but ME2 unofficially works on a single core if you use the two following fixes:
- Loading screen replacements (or the "No Intro Fix", but the game will freeze at the IFF mission later in the game and you'll need to restore some of the original movies): http://social.biowar...72168/47#837079
(FYI, there's a alternate No Intro Fix out there that replaces intro movies with stills instead of an ugly green box).
- Silent Hill Homecoming Single Core patch / enbseries: get this and dump contents into the 'Binaries' folder (fixes the freezes-after-prerendered-movies problem).

This has worked fine for me....my single-core system experience has been exceptional (1280x800, all effects enabled, 30+FPS using an AMD 3500+, XP SP2, 1GB DDR1 RAM, 256MB GeForce 8600GTS. HORRIBLE SYSTEM, I know). Give it a shot, it's definitely worth it!
FYI, I played through the entire game (40+ hours, game-time) without ever running into a single glitch, crash, or any "nasty issues."

Almost every game I have bought recently has had a dual-core as the MINIMUM REQUIRED.

There's never any necessity to alter the design of a product in order to cater to those who resist the new technology. The established, published minimum has been named as a dual cored C2D CPU, or its equivalent from AMD. The mere fact that there are still so comparatively many resistant wannabe gamers making noise doesn't change that. You are supposed to READ the warning labels.Promaxim wrote...

At least one Bioware employee suggested that they might look into the single core situation, and then when the first patch was announced, one of them said they had done some fixing along those lines, but the official Requirements still mean zero official tech support. This forum is unofficial, of course.
Incidentally, for anyone on either side of the AMD / Intel CPU divider, it is a fact that AMD went much further along in improving single core performance. Intel stopped at what amounts to be the A64 3600 CPU's performance level, and AMD had 3700, 3800, and 4000 rated CPUs beyind that point. The AMD products also were affordable, while Intel wanted exorbitant amounts for anything they sold that ran any faster than 3.2 GHz (equivalent to an A64 3200).
Therefore, it shoyuld be expected that the higher end A64s will outperform the P4s now, the same as they did when new.

What is shocking actually however, is how ME2 runs at 3x the framerate of ME1... Optimisation? The fact that it's not a port? ME2 runs shockingly smooth.

Did the patch fix heavy lag you would get with some single cores?
3800+ for me
