Why'd we close the breach when we did?

After completing the game it is 100% obvious the story was changed, near the end of production, to us closing the breach at the end of act 1. Considering there's lots of mentions of a hole in the sky after that, and that Morrigan says "And the breach is finally closed" at the end of the game, for a large portion of the game's development we were not supposed to close it until the end of the game when we have that orb. If I could ask one question of the writers, it'd be why they changed it.

Writers, why'd you change it?

Actually what you do is "seal", mend and or throw a patch on the Breach.

Hence why Cory was able to sort of just instantly able to reopen it.

Solas said as much.

During Haven the Breach is obviously still open, as well as during the Fade portion of the game. What we did was seal it, as in demons will stop falling out of it. At the end of the game the actual sky is mended. Even then the cracks remain, but it's much different from what we saw before.

Yeah, but it's closed. There's a song written about killing Corypheus(who was not named as the person who opened it until he blows up Haven) and closing the hole in the sky. The lost Thaig says the hole in the sky's not their problem, and you encounter them post Skyhold. Passing people mention the breach throughout the game, so much so that I lost track. There's so many traces in the game's lore and dialogue of the breach being open post act 1 that it's incredibly obvious that it was supposed to be open the whole time.

The academic difference between sealed and closed isn't big enough for it to be a concern to your bard and dwarves from a lost hold and your troops. Somewhere along the way the game was changed, and I wanna know why.

That's because the hole in the sky is still there. Again, the only thing we did was stop demons from falling out of it. This was said to you just after doing so.

  • Fade, the land where we, if you're not a dwarf, visit to dream. Spirits shape reality to reflect our experiences.
  • Veil, separates the Fade, from the mortal plane. At least this mortal plane.
  • Breach, a giant tear in the Veil that is connected to an ancient elven orb. It is unique in that norma magic can't close these tears. That and it's the biggest tear seen at least since the height of the Imperium, if not all time.

Ehh, I'm pretty sure we closed it closed it, then we had to close it again later. They made it pretty clear that we sealed the whole thing in act 1.

That said, I didn't hear any references to it still being open post Haven, personally.

Fade is dream realm.

Veil is inter-dimensional wall that separates dream realm from 'real world'.

Breach is huge hole in the Veil.

Rift is little hole in the Veil.

Probably ninja'd by now.

We obviously didn't close it, close it because the Breach is very much seen both on this side and in the Fade. When it is actually sealed, it's hardly even visible. And they mention it a lot actually.
