So when you are born a mage to a noble and are taken to the circle do you lose you noble rank and/or your inheritence?
Are mages allowed to have land and/or noble titles?

Yes. Even if they didn't, they wouldn't be able to do anything with them. Mages in Thedas get three options in life: circle mage, grey warden, or fugitive criminal (apostate). None of those give you much leeway in running an estate, unless you're extremely fortunate and privileged like Vivienne, and even then you still wouldn't have legal standing.

Or move to Tevinter, since it's the only place accepting of mages.

But there was mage that was a noble and she ruled land. I am talking about the baroness of Black Marsh. Is there a exception in Orlais?

If you're playing a human noble mage in Inquisition during one of the dialogs with Josephine she says it's not uncommon for leeway to be shown to the nobility in regards to magic.

Most circles were pretty mellow regardless.
That only changed when the mages forced it to change like obstinate children.

Wasn't her magic a secret? Either way, she was definitely a blood mage and they're adept at manipulating people to do and allow things they normally wouldn't.

That still leaves the question of rank are you still a noble even if you are mage?

yes, depending on how much you can use your family name
I doubt a Ferelden noble who was born with magic will be treated the same as a local noble with magic in an Orlesian Circle

Either way, having a mage will be such a scandal that most probably won't inherit anything. Maybe the mage can own land in name only while a distant family is the one actually doing the lordly duties

We never find out about "most Circles". Ferelden's Circle wasn't too bad if you were on good terms with the First Enchanter. Beyond that, you couldn't leave without special permission. Kirkwall's Circle was a hellhole. Montsimmard's Circle evidently wasn't that bad, judging from Vivienne's comments.

Ostwick was also regarded as sedate

Makes me wonder now what happens to the one who is not born a mage there as its clearly possible and happens.

There was one other too that was in one of the Codex. I think it was in Orlais. It basically said the mages were mingling freely with their families and whatnot until the rebellion where templars came and slaughtered everyone.

So that's a grand total of 4 out of 16 known Circles. Actually 5, I forgot about the Circle in Dairsmuid, which is in Rivain. the Circle is Dairsmuid was annulled in 9:40 Dragon.

Officially, no (as in, mages cannot own land or have titles). Technically, yes, there are exceptions.

No it was Rivain and they literally just decided one day to leave the ****ing circle.
What the **** were they smoking when they thought that was a good idea after Kirkwall?
Seriously.

At most I guess Betheny is a good indicator to just what privilege a mage noble can have. They can keep their titles at most, but no land.
Things may ease up post DAI though

If you play as mage, in winter palace, they not mention that you are from noble family, just a mage from ostwick circle.

Cullen cares.

The Trevelyans are a prominent family. They already know you're a noble, they're angered by the fact a mage was named Herald of Andraste. If someone said, " Lord Therin, of Kinloch Hold," do you honestly think they wouldn't know you're royalty?
