I posted about my character builder in the resource library thread and it was suggested that I create a dedicated topic for it.

The builder is at http://da-skills.net– you can plan out your skill build, drag your chosen abilities to the hotbar in the corner, and then copy the link to share with people.

If anyone has any feedback or suggestions then please feel free to post here! I hope you find it useful.

Looks pretty good.  But the descriptions and active abilities are smooshed into the skill trees.  I'm using Firefox, if that matters.

Which version of Firefox? I use the same browser and haven't had an issue. My only feedback (beyond it looking great) is a way to show available points left to spend so you can keep a tab on progression. It'll limit you once you hit lvl 20 but before that it's ambiguous. Other than that, great job!

It's Firefox 34.0.5.  https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ tells me it is the latest version.

I can view this in Internet Explorer and it works as intended.

EDIT:  Ok it seems that when you expand, maximize, minimumize, otherwise resizeimize, the builder doesn't realign itself to fit the window.  It stays in whatever position it was originally in.  Expanding the window to accomodate it before opening it is a workaround.  This is true in both Firefox and Internet Explorer.  (My IE window opens fully maximized which is why it looked fine to me in IE)

The level of your characters goes up each time you put in a point. If you're level 12, you have 8 points left. While you make a valid point, I think it would be better to keep the free space for something else. I'm working on a suggestion that could fill most of the blank space, I just need to refine it a bit first.

You're right, thanks for that. It's a subtle shift so I didn't notice.

The page did previously handle vertical window resizing, but I’ve added handling for horizontal resizes too now.
I’ve also changed the style on the current level label, to hopefully make it more noticeable.

Now it doesn't work for me at all using current Firefox. Skill tree's wont load, just blank space.

Same here, I see the top tree icon indicators and that's it

Doesn't seem to work in IE either.  it's totally broke now :(

I was trying an experimental change to optimise things a bit, there are some problems with it on FF so I’ve switched back to the original version while I look into it.

Edit: think I’ve fixed all the problems with Firefox, so I’ve switched back to the experimental version. Please let me know if there are any remaining issues.

So I got time to build a fast mock up of what I'd like to see. Basically, it's a build builder like we got for ME3 MP but adapted to your style and DA MP.

It all depends on how much time you're willing to make, so I think you should go in phases.

Phase 1

  • Add a section with the base stats at the left
  • Resize all icons to 85% so a full skill tree can fit in a 1980 x 1080 window

Phase 2

  • Add some interactivity to stats
    • Promotions affect the values displayed for Constitution, Cunning and Willpower
    • Abilities and Passives affect the values displayed for all appropriated stats

Phase 3

  • Display equiped items
    • Move up the section with the selected abilities (bottom right) and use the space created on top of "Feedback - Changelog" to add 7 combo box (Main hand, Off hand, Armor, Belt, Amulet, Ring 1, Ring 2)
    • To avoid a combo box with hundreds of entries, only define the unique items and use a single entry for "common" and "rare"
    • Hovering over a small icon next to the combo box would show the item stats in the top left sections (like abilities and passives do)
    • Equiped items affect the values displayed for all appropriated stats
    • A new section should be introduced below the stats to show the "Special abilities" like "10% for walking bomb at 50% damage" and the likes

Phase 4

  • Allow players to modify the stats of equiped items
    • Add a button next to the combo box to open up a new screen
    • The new screen would display relatively the same stats as the left section of the main screen (the stats I added in the image) but with input boxes so you can change the values to correspond to the item
    • The new screen would also allow you to select the special abilities (10% walking bomb, etc.) on checkboxes, which will be displayed in the section added on phase 3
    • Don't waste your time trying to implement crafting or runes, we can simply enter the correct value directly instead

So when can we expect the changes? Haha, I'm kidding, I'm kidding... or not ;)

In any case, this would give us all the tools to actually check everything we could ever need for DAMP. I'm guessing any new content will require some work to include in the screen, but the structure would make it relatively "easy". It's a tall order, that's why I said this would depend on how much time you're willing to spend on it. It's also why I suggested "phases", each one being less important than the one before them. As far as I'm concerned, I'd be more than happy with only phase 1 and 2 but I won't stand in the way if you want to do more...

I’d happily do that if the data ever became available, but as it is the data to implement this just isn’t there. Short of going through every skill in the game and transcribing the ability text and the stats for each way it affects the character, there isn’t a way to show the statistics like that unfortunately.

I also don’t think this is useful in the same way it was for ME3 to be honest, because all the loot is completely RNG, so including weapons/accessories is generally not going to be relevant to people.
