I can't find it now but I read in an interview with Freddie Prinze Jr. that DA:I has something like 80,000 lines of character dialogue.

Origins is better in almost every way, from its mostly unbiased narrative, to its rich story telling and better side quests.
Inquisition is pretty and the combat isn't bad. But the game is full of busy work and subpar story telling, not to mention the ubiquitous Pro-Andrastian tone.

I have just started a new Origins play through, and am absolutely loving it
Arcane warrior FTW ![]()
Comparing the two games, I find the combat much slower in Origins than in either DA:2 or DA:I, however, the fact that you can get very tactical offsets this downside. Also, the Alistair romance has a bit of a funny pacing. It's almost like: "Hi, I'm Alistair. Pleased to meet you!" and five minutes later: "I love you!"...
But the overall pacing of the main campaign is excellent. I could have finished DA:I at level 16...
What I dislike the most in DA:I are the filler quests. Seriously, did they have to include three animal fetch quests? One goat, one druffalo, and one Halla?! I got so pissed chasing that damned Halla around the Exalted Plains, I gave up on trying to gain the Dalish approval.

This is just my opinion, but the way I see it (I've played both Inquisition and Origins multiple times and enjoyed them both)
Combat System: Inquisition (Reason: Combined elements of a fast-paced combat system and the classic, DA:O style combat system to create a nearly perfect combat experience for players who are fans of both fast-paced and slower-paced, strategic play styles.)
Tactics System & Camera: Origins (Reason: The tactical camera in Inquisition was hardly necessary and I rarely used it just because it was more inconvenient to use the tactics system than just play normally. In Origins, it had a much bigger impact on the way you played and felt important. In Inquisition, it feels like they just put it in for the sake of having it there but didn't really give you much reason to use it for anything.)
Character Customization: Inquisition (Reason: Simply because of the date, and the newer technology available. Can't criticize Origins too much on this because it still had a fairly decent character creator at release, not perfect, but decent.)
Graphics: Inquisition (Reason: See above reason.)
Main Quest Storyline: Origins (Inquisition came close but still fell short in comparison. I loved both stories, but Inquisition didn't have nearly as many consequences for your choices, or even that many choices to begin with. It's ending felt empty, and the villain wasn't very threatening after the first act. It could have been better, it was great, but not as great as Origins.
Side Quests: Inquisition (Reason: Far more side-quest content available, even if some of them don't live up to certain Origins side quests. They are also a big part of the game, unlike in Dragon Age Origins where it was almost tedious to perform certain side-quests.)
Crafting System: Inquisition (Reason: Simple but fun, satisfying crafting system, even if it does have limited options.)
Challenge/Difficulty: Origins. (Reason: Inquisition wasn't nearly as difficult as Origins, but it was a big improvement from DA2's almost non-existent difficulty settings.)
Companions: Tie (Though I lean slightly more towards Origins, both games have great companions. I love both companions from both games.)
Other Characters: Tie (Also leaning slightly more towards Origins here because they had more characters and more development for those characters, I love both game's characters.)
Just my opinion.

I've played Origins completely through about 5 or 6 times. I absolutely LOVED it every single time. Getting to know the nuances of each characters story line, etc... was a blast.
I played DA2 1 time and never touched it again. It was barely ok.
I've played Inquisition completely through 1 time - about 150 hours. I really liked it a lot, but I'm not really left with the urge to immediately start again and create a new character and find all new things. How I feel is this... I feel like besides learning few new combat skills from whatever new type of character I create... well, there is not much "new" content, dialogue, etc... to find or discover.
Am I missing something? Plus, even though I found every stinking shard, I could not open the last door to get all my resistances... grrrrrrrr.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Tweak the world history - I'm sure there's a few surprises hidden there.

Can't find the motive for a second playthrough atm, but that and future story DLC is what will probably make me give it another shot.

Since playing inquisition I've been resisting the urge to go back to Origins and DA2.
Before inquisition released I said to myself "I'm never playing origins again." Now I really want to and I don't know why.
I've managed one rather thorough Inquisition playthrough by now. I have 2 more characters who I adore and would like to beat the game with, but I am absolutely stuck with them. One is still hanging around Haven, the other just reached Skyhold. I've chosen different world states, and mages/templars paths for different characters... But I still can't bring myself to play the game after reaching Skyhold. I can't figure out the reason...
Funniest thing, I want to replay Origins again as well. I even started playing DA2 for the second time in my life. (i've only managed to do it once as it seemed boring and repetative to me). And I am enjoying the fact that Hawke keeps screwing things up throughout the game...

Inquisition is great I love it but it will never be what origins was and despite all the hate DA2 gets I actually enjoyed playing that. In fact I played DA2 more than origins.

I played it again to do the mage/templar story differently and to also up the difficulty. I am close to my second run through this time on hard and I am wondering if I will do the third on nightmare.
I find the romance story lines to be a complete waste of time. Once you get the romance started the romance stops. No moving in with you, marriage, or further progression of any kind. The first scene is short and boring as well.
I like playing as different specs but you get most of the playstyle in the companions.
I think the openness and the graphics are amazing in DAI, but that everything else seems lacking and disappointing. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the game just not as much as I though I would compared to expectations and the build up.

I'm on my third run of Inquisition, and I think on balance it's probably the best of the series, but because of that balance there are other things that DAO did significantly better (like tactics options) and that DA2 did better (being shorter, I found the character/story engagement was paced much more evenly).
As far as replay value, I've found that the unique class and race dialogue is much heavier here than it was in Origins, so that (along with the differences based on world states) have been worth redoing.

I find myself agreeing with this. I find Inquisition overall a much more superior game, mostly due to the companions in it, superior combat, and a much more interesting villain. The story sucks, as in it's average, but that's BioWare.
This is how I feel too. DAI is a technically superior game compared to DAO. It is great and offers lots of enjoyment. Would love a stronger main story.

I'm still in the middle of my 1st playthrough of DA:I, but already I have mixed feelings about this game.
Graphics and how the world is done is imo just awesome, next level ****. I had to update my PC just to run it and it was worth it. I really like how huge this game feels, I've had that feeling only in Skyrim I think and Skyrim was nowhere that diverse and interesting as Thedas.
As I have just moved to Skyhold in my game, I think I'm still not really too deep in the story, but so far it's been like 7/10 at best story wise. That magister throwing you one year ahead in time felt really random and I'm not even talking about that boss fight with him (that was the first time I became really annoyed that there are no healing spells in this game, I ran out of potions quick and my whole party died like 6 times and I had to keep reviving everyone till I somehow beat him).
I probably had only one or two epic moment with slight goosebumps. That was after Corypheus rekt us at Haven and we all joined together to sing the main theme song and then when they proclaimed me the leader of the inquisition and I felt everyone's support really hard.
What I like is the characters though. I think they really shine the most of all DA games. I especially love Solas whose intellectual manner of speaking reminds me very much of my philosophy professors in my college haha. He's one of few characters whom I actually asked the "Investigate" questions and cared about what he had to say. I also dig Iron Bull and Blackwall, those are just true tough warriors.
I don't like much the war room style of doing missions, it feels scrambled and all over the place (literally lol). I just liked better to be a Grey Warden camping in the wild killin' darkspawn and rescuing the world silently than to be a chief of a big organization and have people throwing politics at you and trying to lick your arse. It didn't work much in Assassin's Creed imo nor does it here.
tl;dr IMO DA:O > DA:I in story, the rest goes to DA:I

Well, you could have had a baby with Aerie at some point in Shadows on Amn iirc. Not that it mattered or had any purpose whatsoever. It is not Sims or some other household drama after all. And there were plenty of triangles is DAO already.

Just finished it right now.
Ignoring my pet peeve with the PC controls and judging on the game itself.
I far above and beyond, prefer Origins to Inquisition.
It's a tough call between this and 2 to which is actually the 2nd best for me.
The combat was much more of an RPG in Origins and DA2 than Inquisition.
I bought Inquisition expecting more of the same and felt like I got an overall shallow RPG experience.
The story wasn't anywhere near as tight or flowing.
Not impressed really 7/10

Graphically, Inquisition is far and away superior.
Since I was on PS3 for Origins and PS4 for Inquisition, Inquisition's combat easily wins out. DAO combat on PS3 was incredibly clunky.
As far as main story, Inquisition wins out, if only barely. DAO had a better final mission, though. The fight with Cory should have had a full length mission as opposed to launching right into the boss fight.
While a lot of DAI's side quests are largely irrelevant, I did feel like I actually had a reason to do some of them, as opposed to Origins, where a lot of them didn't feel like something I had any reason to care about.
Generally speaking, I prefered Inquisition's companions. They felt a lot more like real people to me than those in Origins did, and I actually cared about some of them. The only Origins companions I really found interesting were Alistair, Leliana, Morrigan, and Loghain.
As far as the other characters go, I feel like Origins had a better cast of characters in the missions. Calpernia, Ser Barris, and Alexius were interesting, but Origins just has a lot more background characters that were memorable to me.

Origins for me. I loved the story line and the twist at the end—although I have yet to finish Inquisition so we will see. I also like the combat better in DAO, (I play PC for DAO and DA2, PS4 for DAI).
Also, the romanced!Alistair and Oghren dialogue is the best of all time to me.

1. Origins
1A. Inquisition
2. DA2
I'll go back from time to time and play certain scenes from DAO, I loved the Warden Cousland Character, Loved the Morrigan Romance, Loved the story. Can't really go back and do a full play-through though, the combat speed is so obnoxiously slow. The only build that is remotely playable is Dual Wield, and even then its only playable once you get the 'Momentum' talent.
I'm enjoying DAI, the fetch quest are an annoyance, wish it had been replaced with more meatier story. Cory is kind of a Wile E. Coyote nerfed villian, but I am enjoying the companions, like the story as thin as it is, and any game that has Morrigan and my Cousland's son can't be all bad. It has its weaknesses, but, its Dragon Age, and despite all of its flaws... somehow it works.

Origins has a much stronger story, with stronger characters, and character development, and emotional investment in the stakes and outcome.
DAI has a weaker story, but a bigger world and prettier graphics, so... yay?
EDIT:
Origins - better story overall
Inquisition - better gameplay overall
Yeah, there you go.
